So a music event with 1 hour of introducing Air Pods 2 and another hour of using 2 Apple Pencils and a New iPad as an AR drumkit and no new Mac's of any description. Bwahahah.

Kinda fear they'd do something like that. Heck, when Apple introduced the Touch Bar MacBook Pro, they spent most of that 1.5 - 2 hour event talking about the Touch Bar. As useful as it is, to me, that's worth maybe 15-30 minutes. Not over an hour.

The Mac line would then be:

Mac
Mac Pro

iMac
iMac Pro

MacBook
MacBookPro
A consumer and pro version of headless desktop, all-in-one desktop, and laptop. This is the kind of simple lineup I would expect to see from Apple.

I don't agree with having a product just called Mac though. Mac can also refer more generally to any MacOS computer Apple sells, so that actually creates confusion.

I don't hate Apple or their products, I just don't like the lackluster updates to them. So let me ask you a question, why are you so unintelligent that you cannot interpret things appropriately? Answer that one smart a$$.
As soon as you can phrase that in the form of a question, rather than an insult disguised as a question, I may grant your request.

I wonder why this is in NYC and not at Apple HQ like all other events.

I would say because NYC is a major art center with many artists, galleries and all those hipsters lol. Also if you check their logo for the event its very creative and artsy inspired. So possibly iPad Pro too. (hopefully)

For your sake, I hope Apple doesn't define a redesign, much less a major one, as "We got rid of the Fusion drive, which allowed us to make it even skinnier!" To me, that's not much of a redesign.

Oh, I don't fit into the vocal minority on internet forums. I don't mind it being thinner. I would actually applaud it if Apple found a way to do it without sacrificing performance. Also Fusion needs to go anyway. Its 2018. Every Mac should be SSD as stock configuration here on out.

Given the venue and nature of the invites, I'm a tad worried we'll get something about Apple's services—Apple Music, (finally, officially announced) TV shows, or some new AR development software.

If the event isn't hardware focused there is going to be a lot of nashing of teeth here (myself included!) but I'm having my doubts.

I’ll be curious to see what changes they make to the iPad Pro keyboard. Also wondering if there will be any iPad software changes or if it’s all hardware.

Is this where they will have the event at?

No. This is where :

Well let’s hope all our dreams of updated Macs come true. Sure a near bezelless iPad would be spiffy, but we’re all hanging on the possibility of new computers.

Predictions:

The Mac Mini is dead, will be replaced with a new screenless Mac, simply called Mac. The Mac Pro will eventually be a variation on that case design.

The MacBookAir is dead, will be replaced by a new baseline MacBook, simply called MacBook, that looks like the existing MacBook line but slightly larger and cheaper to produce. The refreshed MacBook line will come in 2 variations: 13" entry model with a larger body, bigger bezels, entry level specs and a 12" model with the existing MacBook slim design with higher specs.

They can get it to $999 if they streamline the production process. It's been 3 years since the introduction of the slim MacBook line and like the MacBookAir which started off as a premium priced Mac and ended up becoming the budget notebook, the MacBook's manufacturing is becoming standardized and a larger body would make it even easier to produce.

The Mac line would then be:

Mac
Mac Pro

iMac
iMac Pro

MacBook
MacBookPro

That makes a lot of sense but I'd hope to see at least one more USB-C port on the MacBook, or even better TB3. How many people buy the Air because of the price or because is a solid laptop with legacy ports?

Honestly, I don’t understand why people want a Pro Mac mini. I thought the whole point of the mini was to have an affordable entry level system which is important for any ecosystem. Having a $3000+ Mini essentially makes it a Mac Pro with probably mediocre (for the price) internals due to thermals.

The main problems right now with the Mac are that there is no cheap option (used to be covered by the mini) and that there is no really high end option (used to be covered by the Pro).

Basically, Apple expects you to buy 2-3 year old devices if you really need a cheap option on any product category. The only exception is the cheap iPad probably because they realized that otherwise sales are going to plummet.

Personally, I’m excited for the event because I want an iPad Pro but I don’t expect everyone to be willing to spend $1000 (we all know it’s going to be that much) in order to have modern specs.

Would you trade the headphone jack for another USB-C? I think that's quite likely. The iPad is losing the headphone jack, Macs would be the only place where they're still included. Wireless headphones have grown increasingly ubiquitous since Apple killed the headphone jack on the iPhone and Android phones followed suit. USB-C earbuds are now sub $30 so that's an alternative for those who don't want wireless. I think it'd be a good tradeoff to have a USB-C port on either side of every MacBook, 4 total on MacBookPros.

How about instead of mac mini, "mac modular"
