I think Apple is on a mission to kill off anything that is “mini”.
That does not help with their margins.
Look at the iPod Nano, the iPhone SE.
Next would be the iPad mini and Mac Mini. October 30, 2018 might turn out to be another sad day for those of us liking those products.

Maybe, but the "...but who makes the most profitable ________" crowd should be thrilled. ;)

By the way, article has a typo:

"Apple's 2018 iPhone keynote event will begin at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. "

Probably should read:

"Apple's 2018 media event will begin at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. "

This is a crucial keynote for Apple. It will show us their direction for next few years. If there is nothing interesting (nice tech for a reasonable price), I will have to get out of the ecosystem.
Based on what Apple is been doing for years now a new product with a new feature means a higher price. Gone are the days as the technology progress and improve and becoming more affordable it's an added feature for new products. The trend now is that if you want cheaper buy the 2-3 year old product and you want new better product you better be paying more for it. Too late now too that you already got stuck in the ecosystem unless you just joined Apple recently.

Does anyone else think that the fact it is being held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music mean that music is going to tie into their announcement somehow? Or does it just happen to be a good venue for Apple to mix things up and do a New York keynote.
"Mix things up" I see what you did there!

I think that the choice of venue and "event topic" are 100% related.

Do we really need a new Mac Mini? The current one is 4 years young.

Please don't get rid of me! I'm only 4!

If there are new iMacs and MacBooks announced on Oct. 30, that will be ~17 months since the last announcement. At the time I was very disappointed I couldn't wait for the 2018 models, but in retrospect, I'm glad I didn't have to wait this long.

Mind you, that 17 months pales in comparison to the Mac mini (over 4 years) and Mac Pro (almost 5 years).

I'm ready to be underwhelmed again...Look some shiny new toys that are marginally more functional and way more pricey! But aren't they cool looking. Maybe for once they will actually deliver some meaningful updates, but I'm not holding my breath because they have a nasty habit of making the new toys even less owner-modifiable than the previous models. In other news, Apple has announce it has bought out every superglue manufacturer in the universe as well as a tool developer to come up with new proprietary screw heads. And just to be even more of a PITA, all new devices will come sealed within a large block of clear acrylic to ensure you cannot open it with destroying it.

I heard the saying that “it’s better to be pessimistic cause then you’re never disappointed”... but come on. Aren’t you even a little bit excited? Lol. As an artist who uses an iPad as his main computer & content creating device I sure am. But hey, opinions vary. Cheers.

?? Just get out now, I mean, do you think Apple will drop all prices by 50%? If you are really worried about price, there's lots of Windows machines and Chrome net-books ETC. Honestly, I think we know pretty much what they will unveil, and I doubt a completely new Mac using some 'future tech' that's really cheap isn't on the list. I'm confused by your post. What do expect?

Not only cultural but also very "Professional". The Brooklyn Academy is well known for being a professional music school.

I'm not sure but has Apple ever held an event not at 10AM California time ? This one is 10AM Eastern time.

Thanks for the info!

I wonder also then that if it's a pro music school, if we'll see MainStage - Apple's live performance software - updated for the iPad?

I suspect that we're going to see a demonstration of the staggering power that an A12X Bionic chip is going to be capable of, whatever the case

I feel like it’s sad you’re preparing a $3,000 budget for a Mac Mini lol. You might be on track though since Apple is planning to make it more premium. Apple better not make this a pro device.

Didn't Apple themselves already float that the next Mac Mini WOULD be tagged "Pro"... or was that just a rumor?

Personally, I'm guessing that the next Mac Mini will be "pro" (and pro priced too) and basically the foundation piece for a Mac Pro. Custom proprietary connectors on top to stack on other parts (only available from Apple) to basically build a "pro." And I see the one design of the sliced Apple maybe teasing exactly that.

"Stuck in the ecosystem" has got to be the most illogical argument ever.

Windows users are "Stuck in the Ecosystem" of Windows. Big surprise.

Mac users are "Stuck in the Ecosystem" of Apple products. Big surprise.

Linux users are just stuck.

I'm curious to see the rumored MacBook Air update. I have a 2010 MacBook Pro that is still running fine for what I need. I never upgraded to the new one because I do not like the butterfly keyboard, lack of ports, no user upgradability, and high price point. I've been heavily researching Windows laptops for the past year and I am seriously considering making the switch. I keep putting it off in hopes that Apple puts out a product that I am willing to purchase. If they don't completely redesign the MacBook Air and just upgrades the internals, I will gladly buy one. I highly doubt that will happen though so I have finally come to terms with the fact that I have to return/adjust to an operating system that I haven't used in over 10 years.
