For AT&T users, what's the best way to upgrade your iPhone once Apple starts taking orders? Apple Store app, AT&T app or ? Perhaps this should be in a different thread or forum but, I don't post much so, if it is, please advise.

Thanks

I've had no issues upgrading through the Apple Store app. Kicked me out a few times the morning of the pre-order but I was eventually able to get through, select my device and pay within a matter of minutes. Shipped to me the day of release and it's the only way to upgrade IMO.

I'm also on AT&T Next plan if that makes a difference.

That's a pretty detailed script you got there - you into marketing/event coordination? ;)
I do think it's a bit too cheesy even for Apple, though I have to admit, I had a similar idea in mind as well already.
I'm willing to bet there will be some sort of montage like you mentioned or at least a short flashback showing Steve introducing the first iPhone ("an iPod, a phone.."). It's taking place at the "Steve Jobs Theatre" after all..

Haha nope, just an idea that spontaneously came to mind. It is heavy on the cheesy side I know. But yeah that’s what I was thinking, if it’s going to be at the Steve Jobs Theater then at the very least it would only be fitting to show him iconically unveiling the first iPhone 10 years ago. It would put things into perspective to how far we’ve come, and it is the 10 year anniversary after all so they may as well go all out with it by going to a similar extent to my idea.

I have a feeling that Jobs recorded a bunch of videos before his passing. I bet there willl be a message from Jobs, welcoming everyone to the new headquarters.

Even perhaps, video of his involvement in the design of the new Iphone. It was said before he died that he had left apple with several years of product line plans and designs.......yup.

Oh wow, I never even thought of there being videos left of Steve to introduce us to the new campus. That would be amazing yet sad at the same time to see. I believe he left Apple with five years worth of product pipeline which expired last year, so everything from here on out is purely from Tim Cooks Apple.

I normally hate this sort of wild speculation, but if you'll entertain me for a second, I've noticed something interesting about the invite. Ignoring the deceptive colors and focusing solely on the figure, you can sort of make out…

…an apple! Now that you've made it this far down the rabbit hole, I'm going to suggest that perhaps—perhaps—this media event will be… an Apple event. Like the company!

I think you may be on to something here... ;-)

Nice.

And overnight, AppDonalds food would be the ONLY food anyone should ever eat. Everything not on that menu would become "antiquated", "horrid", "abominations" that "99% don't want" (to eat).

Anything less than gushing-praise comments about the healthiness or quality of the food would be shouted down with fury, rationalized by comments like "I've been eating this food for my whole life and I'm still just fine." Someone would be the first to be called a Food Troll.

Chefs employed anywhere else would no longer know how to cook anything good. Dining experiences outside of plastic booths would be outdated relics to be avoided at any and all costs. People living in any spot on earth where there is no AppDonalds should opt to starve than dare eat anything else.

Then, Samsung would acquire Burger King about 1 month later and rename it BurgerSung. The king icon would be replaced by a curved "W" arch.

About 12 months later the Big Mapple would be reinvented as a much thinner sandwich: "half the substance but still at the same great price."

About 12 months later, the buns would be deprecated and sold separately to achieve another degree of "thinner" and increase average revenue-per-burger purchased. "Our thinnest Big Mapple ever!"

A BigMapple Junior would be introduced at the former "same great price" but the more desirable sandwich would cost about 15% more.

Rumors of a Pro Big Mapple would begin to murmur during the next year. Maybe even a Big Mapple Edition.

About 12 more months to hear cutting-edge spin gushing how they were able to shave the patty to less than half it's former size, reduce standard toppings by 39% and lay out the shredded lettuce in a proprietary pattern so as to have nary a shaving overlap another. "Thinnest Big Mapple ever and still at the same great (Pro) price." Accessories like toppings are available separately. For example, "our new ultra-thin pickles are only $19.95. And no one has ever been able to shave pickles this thin."

"And one more thing... introducing the Big Mapple Edition, our best Big Mapple ever." Line up your Barclay card financing now so you can eat one.

All ;)

Super excited! Time to upgrade from my 5s, hopefully.
Any body else thinks Apple has some surprises this year?

but what could they possibly be? folks are already expecting the phone, apple tv 4k etc. an iPad Mini Pro (frankly I think they should drop the whole Pro name thing and just make that line up THE iPad. with yes a Mini version).

I doubt they will launch a "netflix" but I suppose that could be a surprise. or maybe just how much 4k they get into the store. with perhaps an iTunes Plus thing like they did when they relaunched the music files. I don't think folks would freak over paying a couple of dollars more for 4k especially if they could upgrade older purchases (some of which perhaps they got on sale). its just adding as much as $15 when the movie is already $20 is a bit much. Maybe also launching more of the bonuses for tv shows so they are more like the discs would be a surprise especially since the few there are came in under the radar. maybe even more "complete my season" and "complete my box set" for shows would be added

Here we go. Let's see how many people suddenly start praising OLED if it turns out to be true. But what about the ''inaccurate colors'' and ''burn in"?

I will stay with LCD screens as long as Apple offers them on iPhones then I will, reluctantly, switch to the OLED screen. This has to do with my being moderately severe R/G color blind. Many colors, when used for text on the dark background, become essentially invisible to me. App creators seem to be inordinately fond of using some of these colors.

Quick, everyone tell me what the invite picture means!

I'm sure it has multiple meanings. I predict Tim will make repeated references to those meanings throughout the keynote.

1: Wider Color Gamut of the new iPhone displays, esp the OLED iPhone 8
1b: Perhaps improved camera in all 3 new iPhones as well?
1c: The 3D face detection using IR cameras to allow FaceID in the dark.

2: The 4k HDR support the new AppleTV has, and 4K HDR content coming to iTunes.

3: The image of an Apple that the HomePod will project on your ceiling when you first turn it on.

4: An improved display on the new Watch.

If this hadn't been the first use of the SJ Theater, perhaps the invite could have said; "Come see the colors in our world"?

Reasonable. Wouldn't be a bad way to use the shows emblem.

Once you upgrade, definitely keep the 4S somewhere secure, as it will likely increase in value. My sister-in-law was rocking a first-gen iPhone until 18 months ago or so and had offers of $500+ for it, just as she was in an Apple store and people noticed her with it.

I still have my working first gen iPhone setting in a drawer. I’ve never checked what value it might have. That first gen iPhone went from me to my sister, then to my other sister, then to a friend of my other sister, then to the daughter of the friend of my other sister before it finally found its way back to me.

In August, I always feel like the iPhone isn't worth it. As soon as the keynote ends, I want to purchase the iPhone at 3:00am. Apple always gets me to buy all their stuff.

Being invited to Apple's place, I feel like that is code word for "sex".

Let's face it. Whatever Apple rolls out... there will be geekgasms. It really doesn't matter what it is- just that Apple wants people to buy it as Apple has chosen to serve it up to them. ;)

well looks like i better get ready to sell my kidney for the iphone 8 or start looking for a job and hope they will pay me in advance for it then

anyone know anyone hiring?

OrganHarvesters.com but the job description cryptically describes it as only a short-term assignment, and doesn't seem to pin down a specific work address. Find some guy named Eddie who will direct you to some guy named Lou who will direct you to the HR "manager" down on the dock 34 late Thursday night. Extreme discretion required (don't tell anyone else, don't bring anyone, don't involve the police).;)

That's crazy that it survived so many people!

As long as all the fanboys buy lots of new kit and push up the stock price.........
