I’d probably bite the bullet and order one but I’m afraid the form factor will be too large for me. The standard 6/6s/7 form factor is perfect for me. The Plus model just felt a little too big when I held it trying to figure out if I wanted a 6s or a 6s Plus.

Has anybody out there gone from the previous 5s and below size to the standard 6/6s/7 form factor thinking the Plus felt too big only to get used to the standard form factor and jump to a Plus? Now that I’m used to the standard form factor maybe the Plus size won’t feel like it’s as much of a leap as it did coming off of the 5s. It’s not that my hands were too small to use the 6s Plus it just felt like too jarring a change at the time having only ever owned an iPhone.

Are there any good screen protectors out there that can protect the screen from scratches that could result from being in the same pocket as keys but are not overly bulky and could still fit into a front pants pocket along with a set of keys?

Although the screen is larger because it's edge to edge (to edge to mostly edge) the form factor for the iPhone 8 is about the same as a standard, not a plus, iPhone 7, and only a little larger than a standard iPhone 6. https://www.macrumors.com/2017/05/25/iphone-8-case-iphone-7-comparison/

Edit: Reading a little it is also thicker. Maybe the race to thinness (and damn the consequences of doing so) is over.

Super excited! Time to upgrade from my 5s, hopefully.
Any body else thinks Apple has some surprises this year?

Yah, that's my thought, too. The rumour mill has become so

Gorilla Glass is far harder than metal keys. You don't need a screen protector. Haven't for years.

The iPhone name is too iconic, they won't get rid of it

Just like the Home button and TouchID are iconic and getting removed. Them idiots from Apple are ruining everything. Removing favorite parts from the iPhone and increasing the price cuz they finally put OLED. Screw you, Apple.

So I'm still wondering how the pricing is going to work out for the iPhone next.

If it is anything over the current iPhone pricing, it will affect pricing for the next year and beyond, until they (if they) decide to bring the price back down.

What's the current, if any, consensus? 64GB/256GB/512GB, $899/$999/$1099?

Although I agree "them idiots" are ruining everything, getting rid of a key feature and changing the name of a flagship product are two totally different things.

That's kind of like comparing the MacBook Pro removing all its ports and CD drive, to changing it's name to the Apple Notebook.

Per current rumors, that's a really optimistic guess. I wouldn't bet on seeing it start below $999. Some rumors have it costing as much as $1300.

iPhone 6+ stopped working today... I swear a certain number of these things have self destruct timers in them.

Anyone else on the iPhone upgrade program nervous if they'll get the 8/Pro on launch day? I've gotten a launch day phone ever since the 4, but I have no idea how this trade in and getting a new one works.

Thank you for that information!!! I was under the mistaken impression that it would be the same size as the Plus line in terms of length and width. I’m fine with additional thickness. I totally agree that Apple’s race for the thinnest device possible has done more harm than good with some of their products.

That’s great to know. Thank you!!! That’s been my biggest fear with the Plus sized form factor. I like cases that protect the back of the phone from being scratched but don’t like the cases that cover the screen and add additional thickness on top of the front of the phone to prevent scratches on the glass.

If screen scratches are basically a non issue with the iPhone 8 if you’ve got it in the same front pants pocket as a set of keys then I’m pretty much sold on it. Pardon my ignorance but how long have iPhones had Gorilla Glass displays that are really resistant to scratches from metal keys? Does the 7 Plus have one and/or will the 7s Plus have one?

I’ve heard the term Gorilla Glass thrown around for years but my understanding was that early on it provided better resistance to scratches than regular glass but that you could still get them by contact if you weren’t very careful. I don’t intend to take a key to the screen to try and scratch it but if it’s in the same pocket as a set of keys contact is going to happen. Has the technology improved enough that it’s really a non issue under normal use cases where you can expect some contact?

I'm not sure about Gorilla Glass not getting scratched by keys. I have several nice hairlines scratches on my 6s+ screen, and it's never been in contact with anything except occasionally a stray key in my pocket.

This is going to be a LONG presentation.

Think of what they have to say:

  1. Introduction by Tim Cook, highlighting what Apple has done in the past year
  2. A tour of the new Apple Park campus on video
  3. Introduction of the final version of MacOS 10.13 High Sierra
  4. Introduction of the final version of iOS 11.0
  5. Introduction of the 2017 model iPhones (7S, 7S Plus and 8)
  6. Introduction of the V3 Apple Watch with final version of watchOS 4.0
  7. Introduction of the new Apple TV streaming box with Ultra HD support and final version of tvOS 11.0
  8. Concluding remarks and live musical performance

It could take three hours for the whole presentation to complete.

My guess is $999/$1099/$1199 for the iPhone 8 (or whatever it will be called).

Follow by the 7s at $549 and the 7s+ at $669 respectively.

The rationale for pricing the new iPhone so high is primarily due to supply issues, and also because there is nothing stopping you from picking up the cheaper iPhone as an alternative.

Everyone is talking about the prices this year but not for the next.

What happens next year? If there isn't another release like 7s/7s+ next year and there is just the 5.8" and perhaps a 6.5", where does the pricing go?

Steve Jobs theater is barely done how are they planning to host the event there? Or just BS rumors Apple spread on purpose just like not being able to implement TouchID under glass?

It's actually a text glyph (command + option + K) that was rasterized. Why?
Then it doesn't make sense. Text glyph has a different shape:

I found another logo from the official site — https://www.apple.com/ac/structured-data/images/knowledge_graph_logo.png

This logo has exactly the same shape as the logo on the event image.
