Playing devil's advocate, so to speak.

Lol, understood.

If you're comparing my bluetooth headphones to the included EarPods, then why even complain? It's quite likely that every new iPhone will still come with EarPods, just lightning instead of 3.5.

Can I use them with my Macbook Air? Can I use them on my non Apple devices?

99% of people won't care. They'll just use what's in the box.

You will see that if you can't recharge while listening to music, people will care.

Also, to clarify, the only headphones you use with the 3.5mm on your iPhone are the bundled ones?

As of now yes. They do what I need them to do.

I think what Apple sees, and what I see from nearly every single person that's using headphones, is that they're all using the included EarPods. Let's be real. 99% of people won't care. They'll just use what's in the box. We're such a minority (other expensive 3.5mm based headphones or bluetooth headphones) that Apple probably doesn't care. The public in general will likely have been much more annoyed about the move from the 30-pin than losing the 3.5mm this year.

You might be right about very few people caring, but I distinctly remember the 3.5mm headphone jack being a selling point for the original iPhone after years of using manufacturers' proprietary audio jacks. That move back to a proprietary, non-standard jack is so confusing. At least make it a USB-C port.

The other day I've seen a kid at the store use the pencil not as a pencil but as a stylus...that is exactly what Steve Jobs did NOT want. I hope (really do hope) this will never gonna happen and will never come to iPhone ...
Why do you want to make my job more difficult by requiring me to carry a sketchbook on me at all times? Why do you hate trees and the environment when we have a perfectly good moleskine in our pockets at all times called the iPhone? I seriously don't get what's wrong with you people who hope that great features never come to the iPhone because a guy who has been dead for five years didn't like crappy stylus back in the day and now we've got this amazing Apple Pencil that works really well for us artists and designers. Get over Steve's death and stop trying to trample on progress. The Pencil is incredible technology and implementing it in the iPhone would be simple. It's not going to change the primary input method in the slightest because most people aren't going to pony up for a $99 accessory and it has more of a singular purpose, which is for drawing. Why do you get so mad when you see someone using something in a way that doesn't jive with your expectation? Maybe that works better for that person because they have some sort of disability? Did you stop to consider that? I do UX/UI Design in apps and the web for a living, and I'm constantly surprised with what our users tell us in testing, especially as it relates to accessibility testing. There are certain things that help them accomplish tasks easier. They could have shaky hands from parkinsons and maybe they can more easily tap things with the Pencil. You don't know, so don't judge.

For the macbook air and non-apple devices people will probably still have older headphones around. I think it's rare that even happens. Same with recharging while listening with headphones connected. But - this is also why I think Apple will play the wireless card if they even do explain it.

So say I've spent $130 more than you on headphones. Actually I also have a pair of Sennheiser PX 360BT that I picked up for $99. But that means I have the same headphones as you (the bundled ones) plus others in addition that give me more option/features. I mean, 10 years back I ran and cycled with wired headphones. I was running daily, it was extremely annoying. Actually for the past while the majority of running I no longer carry my iPhone, I'm only using the watch. If the 3.5mm headphones were my only headphones, I wouldn't be able to connect them to my watch. Using them on a treadmill and connected to a new Apple TV I quite enjoy as well.

I'd imagine that people who have invested in expensive headphones are the ones who are likely to be upset about the loss of 3.5mm. But if you just use the bundled ones, why would it bother you, specifically if the iPhone includes lightning headphones? Just because you wouldn't be able to connect them to your Mac or a non-apple device? Do you do that often? Could you not use your older headphones if that's the case?

That was my first thought, too. Looks so much un-apple-like and it's so obvious. Thicker font after all that going thinner? It's also not their standard font. And way to close to the baseline...it looks more like someone just made a quick Photoshop thing then anything we've seen from Apple in the past.

Strange indeed.
Perhaps an effort to look less perfect? To be more relatable to the masses? Any time I see a design decision made, especially on something that is circulated on this scale, I have to believe that it was intentional and there is some method to the madness behind it. Some testing that was done, some philosophy being followed. We're taught all of this in design school, and I really doubt Apple just slaps something together. So it must have some desired effect on the masses. It's rougher, less meticulous.

Really? I remember the original iPhone having a recessed audio jack that essentially only worked with the bundled headphones. And prior to that, I never remember seeing people complain about the lack of 3.5mm on older smartphones. Actually most of them I remember having 2.5mm?

It's to do with the dual-camera... how it'd focus.

You think Apple would intentionally release an image like this? Lol.
You think Apple released their invite unintentionally? Or am I not getting something?

whooping on cue ...
I read that as "whipping on Cue" and I was like, boy, that's harsh. But I think Apple have a great opportunity here. Cue comes out on stage ripped like a professional swimmer and announces it's all because of Apple Watch.

I never remember seeing people complain about the lack of 3.5mm on older smartphones.
Introducing: myself. I switched from a Sony Ericsson to an iPhone because the iPhone had a 3.5mm jack and I could use any headphones I wanted, not just the terrible earbuds with a proprietary connector Sony put in the box. I now own one pair of Bluetooth headphones for the gym – they cost twice as much as my (ha) wired Sony buds and they sound terrible in comparison, but gym is one place where I like having loads of bass and the convenience of no wires. I own six or so pairs of wired headphones, ranging from those Sony earbuds to semi-pro studio ones.

*fiddles with his S7 which is water-resistant AND has a 3.5mm jack*

You do realize that most workers in China factories are exploited right? I mean this is no big secret whether it be Apple or any other company. I am not saying it is right but that is how things are in China.

Did you read the article? It was published a few days ago and talks about specifics of what Apple is doing right now to squeeze more margins and screw over their workers.

......and your headphones never ever worked in the 3 pin prong on aircraft! That was a bummer!

Oh I get it. See you on the 7th. Because it's the iPhone 7. So clever.

Does that black background with those contrasting vivid colors mean we are finally getting OLED?

Firstly, I know somebody else said it, but yes, it's the top of an Apple logo.
I though it meant something else... The only way to take that photo is manual focus and camera settings, therefore maybe we could see manual focus, aperture, and shutter speed. But at the very least, an upgrade to the camera.
