**** happens, one iPhone is very different from the next.

Theres a possibility some iPhone's properties are different from others. Hence you could have a bad one!

It was about time someone talked about actual engineering procedures. The usual data-less verbal diarrhea was driving me nuts.

I'm a reliability engineer and this type of highly accelerated life testing is at the absolute top of the list in any engineer's design checklist. Design for reliability is up there with design for assembly and manufacturability.

From my perspective, this gives Apple an easy way to boast about their ridiculously well thought out product design.

'Bend-gate' - an easily fixed with just a good dose of honesty. Only if Apple released their warranty Pareto charts...

I agree 100%.

We all learned the scientific method in school yet we believe any YouTube video where someone performs uncontrolled, unmeasured tests.

I've seen it here on the forums, too, of poorly-executed "tests" that resulted in bogus conclusions.

Good for Apple to show actual, formal testing on their devices.

No invite for cap boy?

Image

Not so "high profile" now, is he...

You have a problem with him?

He did zero wrong.

He simply showed how the iPhone 6+ bent more than other phones.

That is good for consumers.

Does not matter how he bent it as he tried to bend them all in the same manner, which tells you as a consumer far more than Apple saying we decided it was fine on our test machine.

every phone since the 4S has had design and/or durability problems

I know I sound like a broken record but I've said over and over again that the 4/4S had the best design of any iPhone even the most recent ones. I still use my 4S at home from time to time as a media control and streaming source and I marvel at it's design in comparison to my 5

it usually takes ages (if not never) for Apple to admit some "flaws" and now after 2 days (and 9 customers) they invite reporters to their testing facility for a problem that doesn't exist.

I'm really surprised this time

I agree. If it passed very rigorous durability standards then they could have just made a statement that said the phone has been properly tested and there is no issue with it's durability.

At least Apple has put everyone's mind at ease and you can go ahead and stuff your iPhone Plus into your front pocket again without worry.

Doing a press release or showing test equipment doesn't make this better. It's clear by now that from a durability perspective, the 6+ is probably not the best phone out there :(

See... this is what I meant. No one is interested in the truth. Truth is boring. I rather believe that iPhone 6+ is not a durable phone out there. I rather believe that as the truth.

This is one guy who made a video where he bent some phones. How is that qualified to get an scandal?

This thing is blown way out of proportion!

The only indication we have of how hard he was bending, was his face. I would have been more swayed if he used a digital force gage, and applied pressure in a more realistic or normal method.

Unless someone is wearing leg calipers accessorized by a solid stainless steel belt, I doubt a phone would see those forces in normal use.

I have no doubt the Galaxy nit'd is more durable, however I have shipped out enough of those with broken screens to come to the conclusion that larger screen phones require a touch more care than their smaller cousins.

mailability is a property of most metals

unless you make the phone out of tungsten it will bend and he tungsten may crack i am a jeweler and i can tell you the hand is pretty powerful . ut is the preferred bending tool in metalwork because it leaves no tool marks . i did a test and carrying even that huge phone in the front pocket it will never bend , using the thumb in the middle and fingers on the ends would probably bend a .6 mm steel slab it is basically a bending jig the fellow created there PLUS i noticed the phone was still lit and running after he boomeranged it

Dear Apple,

It doesn't matter how open and honest you are, sensationalist FUD merchants don't get page ranks/income from honesty and helpfulness, so thanks... but they'd rather keep on spreading BS in their usual, underhand way, and making money through trash talking with distorted, massively exaggerated "proofs", instead of taking the initiative to use their BRAINS, and go out and create products like you have.

Everyone? Are you sure? Perhaps only 1% of us who is interested about the test. I can bet you, the other 99% will only choose to remember the guy in hat who broke his iPhone 6+ with bare hand in Youtube.

agreed...

U have to be a HUGE dumba$$ to keep a HUGE phone in your pocket for 18 hours. WTH?
It must be really uncomfortable. And then go dancing with it? Gimme a break.
Who does that in real life?
I guess this guy was not the most popular at the party. No need to get his phone out to take a photo and nobody was calling him or texting him for a whole day... And definitely, he didn't pick up any chicks so there was no need to write their numbers on his phone. ;)
And he didn't show off the iphone plus? Hello??????:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

That dude has 27 million views on that video! I can't imagine any Samsung or Android video getting that many views.

I could post a video of someone doing something unspeakably cruel, and get a BILLION views - does that alter the fact that I had wrong motives for having posted it?

27 millions views, based on FUD and hysteria, doesn't make him a legitimate, credible source. You've likely worked that out, so I'll leave you in denial.

Good for Apple to show actual, formal testing on their devices.

It means nothing, zero.

Apple place their device on a test rig they set up to a level they felt was right, they ran the test they felt was right and they felt the results were acceptable.

So what does that tell you?

Nothing.

HTC, Motorolla, Samsung, Sony, could use the same test rig, set it differently with their own different idea on what a pass will be.

Apple can show anything they like. Means nothing.

If it was independently tested to some independent standard that other phones were identically tested to then that means something.

How is that clear? Where is the chart outlining exactly how much every phone model bends? Where does the iPhone 6+ rank on this list? You seem to know all of this and yet are neglecting to share.

It means nothing, zero.

It would be hypocritical for you to believe *anything* then. Do you believe gravity exists?

everything breaks...

We are surrounded by glass, metal, wood, concrete and drive cars and motorcycles that can kill us.
Still, we use the stuff.. Nothing, even humans, are unbreakable.
Deal with it.
I, for once, Can't wait for my HUUUUGGGEEEE 6+.
Everybody will want one now.

Cheers

Wow, the iPhone 6 went through 15,000 durability tests!

I guess Test # 15,001 - "Phone in tight pants pocket"

I am sure they'll add that one when they test the iPhone 6S :)

Maybe you should actually read the article :D.

Another test, according to Apple, is called the "sit test." This test simulates sitting on a hard surface with the phone in the back pocket of a pair of tight jeans. Apple said it runs the phones through thousands of cycles testing the phone in different positions.

In other words,

Dear Apple

Don't be naive. Time to recreate that Mac-PC guys ad again but this time by mocking your competitors phones. You can even create false information like their phones is so bad you can't even make a call with it, or something like that.

Good fine Lou from unboxed therapy which is one of the coolest text reviewers looks like a real clown. these guys are just getting silly by shooting arrows through phones im starting not to take these guys seriously anymore.that video was a disservice to his viewers and the tech industry

This NBC bit is TOTAL TRASH

When I saw the Iphone 6 PLUS I knew immediately it had a design flaw

its TOO THIN for the LARGE VOL. button cutouts to fit the larger phone and thinner chassis.

It IS a design flaw

The VOL buttons needed to have been SMALLER and ROUND

likewise of course the chassis cutout from them smaller , which is the only important point.

This! I was losing hope reading all the comments until I got to yours. Kudos.

I wonder how many people admit to doing something wrong when they get caught, I'm pretty sure most deny it.
This is no different to Antenna Gate and the paint falling off the iPhone 5.
