The ipad will take off like an MX Missle!!
Steve Jobs made the rounds, bought the right companies and brought in key talent. Now that is a recipe that can lead to success. So when the ipad is a success, don't start playing that old tune about nobody knows there is a better tablet because of Apple's advertising(and they really do very little of that. Their stuff just works!). And I don't see any body from HP talking up the slate. It ain''t nothing but a freaking windows powered pc. HP has noting unique to offer. Apple will own that junk.

Yo HP, why don't you do something about them antiquated a** graphing calculators. They are garbage. Repackaged trash you've been peddling for 20 years. And cheaper build quality to.

Apple Online Store FTW.

Hopefully Pre Orders begin within 2 weeks with first deliveries scheduled 3/26.

Waiting on line at a store hardly seems necessary, or smart.

I think perhaps Apple is so concerned about the mobile market (iPad, iPhone, iPod) that the rest of their products have been neglected.

Indeed. Its seems they have given up on anything that does not strongly appeal to the 20-something demographic.

Examples of this are the Mac Mini and MacPro.

It is just a big iPhone though. Tell me what function(s) it has that is different than the iPhone?

The iPhone has much too small of a screen for many text heavy applications. The day I started writing iPhone apps, I was practically screaming, "I need a bigger screen for this! Why don't they make this into some kind of notepad device?"

Off subject: I think Apple should have a midnight release. You could get your device, go home, take a shower and be early for work the next day. If they had a midnight release on Friday, those who don't work weekends could even sleep in.

Why 6:00 PM? When they sell iPhones, they start in the morning and the store is filled to the max all day long. Are they just wanting to keep people in line longer? I don't buy the 6:00 PM bit.

PS: I bet the free gift is a touch enabled magic mousepad (Or a code to download a free move)

6:00 pm= afterwork. In nyc people will leave straight from work for hteir nearest applestore to queue in line.

My guess for the free gift: Promo codes/gift card for FREE iWORK APPS. Minimal hard costs, high value, increases enjoyment of product on day 1. As a marketer, that seems like a no-brainer.

I am so FREAKING excited!

This is what I thought as well when the 'free thing' rumor came up. It would be a great marketing tool; all the first day buyers will have some seriously polished 'especially for iPad' software to show all their friends and make them want one.

this thread is about the soon to be released iPad, which truly and undoubtedly, no matter how much you lie to yourself, is just a big ass iPhone.

You gotta hand it to these iPad detractors, they are amazingly dedicated! I don't think I could keep posting the same negative message for month after month about a product I didn't believe in.

Found on the web ;)

Apart from the fact they can't even keep their argument straight. It's "It's just a big ass iPod Touch", not "big ass iPhone". Come on, keep up. :D

It Could Be So Much More

You gotta hand it to these iPad detractors, they are amazingly dedicated! I don't think I could keep posting the same negative message for month after month about a product I didn't believe in.

If I'm coaching a marginally good baseball team and I keep showing up for practice and pushing the team harder, does that make me a detractor? Just the opposite, it makes me dedicated and wanting to see the best in my team.

I believe at this point, the iPad isn't much more than a big iPhone. Except it lacks some iPhone features.

However, that doesn't make me a lurking iPad detractor. I am a huge iPad supporter and I really want to see this thing succeed. I want a camera, video conferencing, more business connectivity applications. It's ok if you are excited about the iPad in its current form. I'm still pushing for more.

Just because I'm waiting until this product matures and I'm vocal about its shortcomings doesn't make me an enemy.

Some of you guys have serious stamina & love for Apple. I have yet to see a product by any company that I would wait in line for 12 hours to buy.

So does this mean I have to wait until April to get my new MBP? Dislike.

Why don't you just buy one now? In all likelihood, you'll never be able to tell the difference between what you buy now and whatever updates Apple releases in the coming months.

I really hope it just is not an in store thing and it will be able to be ordered online :/ there is not an Apple store near me. I had to travel 2 1/2 hours to go to an Apple store to buy my MBP.

I would need to pay a few hundred pounds for a ferry ticket, board the 2 1/2 hour ferry to liverpool and get a taxi to the Apple Store

That would be great since my birthday is the 27th!

However, I'll probably have to work on launch day, meaning I'll be selling iPads instead of getting one :(

Well, this would go along with the iPad just being a bigger iPhone. Since its a bigger iPhone, as a result, you would have a bigger screen.

You gotta hand it to these iPad detractors, they are amazingly dedicated! I don't think I could keep posting the same negative message for month after month about a product I didn't believe in.

In fact, I haven't said this once. Check my post history. Nevertheless, please tell me why is isn't just a large iPhone (besides it having a bigger screen and being "magical").

I'm curious why a "larger iPhone" is somehow a bad thing. Every mobile phone maker has been scrambling to copy the iPhone anyway. I'm pretty sure it will end up doing almost everything a regular consumer level computer user needs it to do.

I thought it still hasn't been confirmed whether you can tether your iPhone to the iPad. I hope to God that we can. Here in Canada Rogers allows free tethering and I don't feel like paying for more data when I've already got a huge data plan on my phone that I can't even completely use on my phone each month.

Ability to tether to iPhone - A big wish of mine but wrong!

Well I really hope they do pre-orders. Not everyone lives near an Apple store. I am 2 hours away from the closest store. I will be sad if this is so.

Me too :( Just too far away for an Apple Store to even think about it.

I'm surprised how many think there will be lines, and are even stating they'll stand in line.

I stood in line for every model iPhone, I got the AppleTV on its first in-store available date, but iPad just doesn't seem like a product I'm going to run out and buy.

All you first-day adoptors, enjoy the buggy hardware and OS, report all the quirks quickly so I can get the second (fixed) version if the product turns out to actually do something more interesting than its current feature set implies.
