Day has gone by

You will not see me in that line to get a BIG iPod Touch.

I can by the original anywhere!:p

Did iPhone campers get free gift too? I cant remember?

Well we got free bottled water and some ice cream samples :D (Actually the ice cream samples were guerrilla marketing by the ice cream shop in the mall).

No real "gift" though for iPhone -- unless you consider the custom bag a gift. It's been a long time since Apple's given out a "gift" w/ purchase. I got a t-shirt w/ my 2nd gen iPod. Got good $ for it too on eBay. & I recall Apple gave out something lame w/ 10.2, but Microcenter was giving out free flash drives so I bought there + no line.

Don't get the superiority complex. There are mini candy bars, regular size candy bars, and king size candy bars. One size does not fill everyones need. Choice is good. Why is that soooo hard for some to comprehend?

THAT WILL BE MY BIRTHDAY!!!

Honestly... I was born on the 26th. I think Diana Ross was too. :)

Perhaps you could bring a boombox to the lineup with you and play some appropriate hit songs from the Diana Ross' discography.

For example...

1971: "I'm Still Waiting" (UK #1)

1973: "Touch Me in the Morning"(US #1, UK #9)

1980: "I'm Coming Out" (US #5)

I knew there was something familiar about this picture. I recognize most of the people in the line and was right there standing behind the guy in the white shirt in the lower right side (I'm cut out of the pic). After spending hours on line, we all practically became friends. I took many pics myself. Too funny!

Edit: I do see myself in the lower right corner, at least my arm. I'm wearing a white shirt, lol.

Why 6:00 PM? When they sell iPhones, they start in the morning and the store is filled to the max all day long. Are they just wanting to keep people in line longer? I don't buy the 6:00 PM bit.

PS: I bet the free gift is a touch enabled magic mousepad (Or a code to download a free move)

Wasn't the reasoning behind the G1 iPhone going on sale at 6pm because you could pop in after work, and not have wasted your whole morning waiting in line?

That would seem to have the opposite result - - you would have to line up all day to be in position for 6pm - - whereas if it went on sale early in the morning, you could line up the day before (if you're that kind of ambitious) and be one of the first out of the store and on your way to work for the day.

The excitement is mounting... I can't wait to get mine. I need to make a decision on the wifi-only vs. 3G version! Since I already have a MBP and an iPhone, I don't believe I would use this device outside of my home network. But then again...

This makes me doubt the report. My boyfriend worked in sales at an Apple store for over a year, and the only advance training he received for any new product was the new in-store activation process (scanning IMEIs, porting numbers, running credit checks, etc) for the iPhone 3G... which did not involve seeing or touching an actual iPhone 3G until he sold his first one the morning of 3G-Day. The notion of advance units arriving in Apple stores more than two weeks before they go on sale (giving ample opportunity to be photographed, smuggled out for the night, quietly shown to friends and persistent customers, etc.) is almost laughable.

+1... Most of the time the employees are the LAST to find things out. No way this thing will be in the hands of store employees before the 25th. Most employees have iPhones or iPod Touches, so there really isn't much to learn.

I hope that fat guy's there from the iPhone queue, he was eating Kettle Chips™ and saying how much he wanted an iPhone because, "He's heard it was really cool."

He didn't know if he'd actually use the iPhone, so he'll undoubtedly love the pad!

Well I really hope they do pre-orders. Not everyone lives near an Apple store. I am 2 hours away from the closest store. I will be sad if this is so.

IF I was to get one of these (which I am not), I would probably go with the 3G. Not that I would use the 3G right now, but you never know in the future.

March 26? This is old news! I nailed the date way back on January 18, seven days before Apple's press shindig. I didn't get everything right, but I came closer than a lot of folks:

Name - Wrong!
Price points - Not really that far off... most were expecting $999. Close enough to be counted as correct! :)
GUI - It's not just a "big iPhone" and it is a very cool GUI so, check!
WiFi - Easy one... check!
Bluetooth - Easy one... check!
Built-in cellular data: Optional - BINGO!!
Ability to tether to iPhone - A big wish of mine but wrong!
Ship date: BINGO!

So, I give myself 6 out of 8! :)

Mark

It is just a big iPhone though. Tell me what function(s) it has that is different than the iPhone?

Special gift? I gotta admit, I'm really wondering what it is. $100 iTunes gift cards? I'd settle for a shirt.

complimentary bag of hurt.

this thread is about the soon to be released iPad, which truly and undoubtedly, no matter how much you lie to yourself, is just a big ass iPhone.

All I know is I can't wait to touch one and play with it. Until I actually see what it can and can not do I will not make up my mind. This is something that is pure non-essential that I just want, a toy. I will not wait on line for it but I will enjoy watching people who do.

Yeah, you're probably right. I have a nagging suspicion that I would regret any other decision.

If I didn't have an early school day, I'd struggle to the mall just to see the line-up... But I'm glad to wait until the 3G model is out and exams are over before squeezing into the Store and trying it out!

The ultra iPod touch isn't for me. I am still in the host of people waiting for an updated MBP. I think perhaps Apple is so concerned about the mobile market (iPad, iPhone, iPod) that the rest of their products have been neglected.
