Oh hello Barney!

I wasn't that taken by it at first, but like Jobs' recent Thoughts on Music, I guess this ad works on several levels at once:

To everyone: buy iPhone
To film buffs: iconic iPhone
To entertainment moguls: iTunes movies, hello?
To apple fans: remember iMac
To other brands: everyone knows iPhone

First thing that struck me was the new typeface at the end for "Hello" and "Coming in June". Any graphic designers wanna give an arch major a shout out for what the new font is. I expect it is Apple's new default.:)

I noticed that too... It's Myriad Bold, they normally use Myriad Roman. I prefer the roman.

Isn't it TOO simple... Maybe it's American commercial way... but it's not the commercial like getamac.... There is no joke... no flair... just: hello...

We had a commercial over here: Ben (=i am)... it was there for some couple weeks, nobody had any idea what it was... and it was a mobile operator... it was as simple as this one, but better.... If they just didn't mention the name in the first block, but in a second block it would already have been better.

Here is the list of actors in the commercial. I am only missing the "French Woman"... any help?

Lucille Ball
Jackie Gleason
Humphrey Bogart
Marlon Brando
Jerry Lewis
Marilyn Monroe
Clark Gable
Peter Sellers
Steve McQueen
Richard Dreyfuss
Burt Reynolds
Betty Rubble
Robert Redford
Michael J. Fox
Harrison Ford
John Cusack
French Woman
Kevin Spacey
William H. Macy
Dustin Hoffman
Will Ferrell
Sarah Jessica Parker
Jeff Bridges
Billy Crystal
Cameron Diaz
Samuel L. Jackson
John Travolta
Robert DeNiro
Ben Stiller
Michael Douglas
Mr. Incredible

Anyone can name all the movies that were part of this ad? :D

I love how Tautou says "Bonjour".

As a teaser this ad is great. No point criticizing it under the assumption that it's a proper ad. It's subtle, simple and classy IMHO.

I will never forget the feeling I had the day my Newton was deliered. I have a feeling that day will once again be repeated when my iPhone arrives.

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you play any Apple TV commercial backwards, you can see Bill Gates in the background crying. He is always on hte right side of the screen about halfway through the commercial. ;)

play the movie backwards and you can hear a secret message ... the at&t logo is a bad omen ... the john guy's (who appears on the phone's splash screen) birthday has to do something with the release date of iphone ... iphone might be called 'Hello' ... takeapart the ad to look for secret feautres of iphone ....... whats next? world is heading for doomsday cuz iphone ad said so? ..

whats wrong with you guys? it was just an ad people!!! ...

so nobody has any links to the vista commercials? I'm dying to see how they compare to the iPhone commercial.

JUST Hello? What, did you not see the first 27 seconds? It was more than JUST Hello, and at any rate that is all the ad WAS trying to say...Hello. The conversation will come in June.

Moreover, you really talk out of both ends. The "Get A Mac" ad, or getamac, as you refer to it, is also an American commericial concept. I think the iPhone ad is humorous in a dry wit way, as well as effective. Apparently you need 3 stooges or sarcasm. You must be 15 (How is that for sarcasm?)

But what better introduce people to a phone than "hello." I guarantee you the vast Academy Award watching demographic did not know about the iPhone until last night, and would have been turned off by two geeks having a pissing match over a phones. The movie clips drew the AA demo in. That is who the ad was meant for.

Great ad, very classy and appropriate for the time showed.

Anyone know what music is playing in it though? I'm sure it has been posted, just too lazy to read all the pages...

Edit: Nvm, Inside your Head - Eberg

wow

all this for a commercial?

Sorry if i am not joining the festivity of celebrating this commercial
but, I dont see what the big deal is.

Numerous cut scenes where the main objective is "HELLO" from past to
present time is far from clever or creative if you ask me.

I cant wait for this phone to be released so that i can play with it
and base my decision after i know how well it functions.

I would have loved a commercial where they concentrate more on showing how well the iphone blends in with our daily life, concentrate more on
its ability's.

I guess even if apple is dull people will still see it as bright
