I would be thrilled with... what would basically be an updated Thunderbolt Display. Heck, I am on a 5K iMac right now and it would be nice to get that display standalone for a Mac mini.

I fail to see how $2,500.00 is "affordable." If the only yardstick is the XDR, that's not great. I have a hard time believing this would be anything but an iMac without the Mac which would be silly if it was more expensive than then entry level iMac, lol. I can see it in the range of the current LG (1,200-1,400) but man, 2,500 is too rich for my blood.

I cannot believe there really isn't anything out there for the 5K space other than the LG monitor I have been using for 5 years now. I have a 5K iMac from 2017 and an LG with it. It's a nice setup. It's also a setup that really has no analog today.

Where can I find this wallpaper?

I'm expecting iMac display panels, minus the computer part. They will somehow have a higher price than an iMac to make up for the longevity of a monitor over the e-waste that is a completely unserviceable AIO.

Unfortunate - I really like my old 23" Cinema Display and still keep it around as my testing monitor.

I'm down for at least two if they can hit the less than $1200 price point. Much higher and it becomes too much to makes sense. I am holding on to two Thunderbolt displays and two 24" displays that more than meet my needs, but even they might run out of steam at some point. It must have speakers for me. I'd like (2) USB3 ports, but can live with Thunderbolt ports if that is all they are going to offer. Other than that I don't care.

If the rumors are true, that's a big if, I think they will release

1. 24 inch 4.5k monitor for $999. That would be a big step up compared to LG 4K Ultrafine, which has lower resolution but retails for $699. This is for average Mac user who needs a solid monitor.
2. 27 inch 5k monitor for $1999. They might add a few ports (Ethernet?) or HDR or Pro Motion to make it higher end compared to 1 and justify the much higher price tag compared to 1 and LG 5K. I think the is the sweet spot for prosumer and still gives Apple sufficient margin for profit.
3. 32 inch 6k Pro XDR display for $4999.

Not sure if they will release a new Pro XDR or just keep it in the line. Let's wait and see.

But in any case, affordable Apple monitors are really the missing piece in their current Mac lineup.

Seriously? You know a ton of people begging for a $2500 monitor? I know a bunch of people who want an Apple monitor, but I don't know a single one who wants one in that price range. After the current Apple monitor siphoned off all the pros, everybody else is mostly looking at the 5k iMac screen, saying, "Hey Apple, please give me THAT." I guarantee you the group I'm talking about VASTLY outnumbers the group you're talking about.
I don’t agree with the $2500 price range as well but hopefully, it’s a lot lower than that. But I just don't see Apple offering a display for $999.

2500 price range makes no sense to me.

It would make too many compromises to make it worth it.
I assume it’s for enthusiasts but at that range there are some great alternatives, some cheaper.
You can buy a new Mac for the amoney.

Maybe I am wrong and I am missing something…?

At $2500 it would make more sense to just buy whatever new iMac (Pro) Apple releases (I’m assuming it will be 27”).

Well, cows want to be milked. This is especially easy with blind fanboys, for whom the design is the most important thing.
I’d say design and built quality would be a “free” bonus over the LG Ultrafine, so quite plausible cows would feel better being milked😏

I guess that the current XDR display will see a reduced price. Same happened with the original 30in Cinema Display.

I think even among us Mac users the willingness to spend more than 1K on a display is not that high for most people. 24" at one grand does not sound very attractive to me.

consumer oriented and starting at 2,5k I love it. That is more than most people make here per month but I guess it is okay if your company pays for it. Most people will be like "why should I get this small display when I can get a QLED tv with 75 inch for less"

This will be awesome! I can see it going well with the new Mac mini. Some people will complain that the price is too high but like most Apple products they’re not cheap and cheaper options are currently available. Apple isn’t trying to compete in that market. This is going to be for someone who doesn’t need a professional display but would like a really nice display
I think the price will end up almost the same, get a Mac mini for $2000 and a display for $2500, so for under a $5000 you got a fast machine (provided allowing some room for more RAM, and ports).

I believe Apple displays are about PPI, so my expectations:
24”@5k-$999
27”@6k-1599 (can’t see it being 2x24” price)
32”@8k-5999

A chip: embedded apple tv; universal control requirement;

Unlikely but cool for smaller units: magnetic detachable “à la Magic Keyboard “ with pencil support to use 24/27 as editing tools.

Most important: NO WHITE BEZELS! and space grey option.

24” sell like hot cakes; 27” maybe not so much because people have and will be forking into AS machines so restrains may apply; 32” very niche.

For around $3500, you already get 16”MBP M1max 10/32c 32RAM 1TB, so $4500 for mini desktop is not so compelling IMHO $3000 more likely.

27" is the sweet spot for me, I'd look to get two of them for sure.

But for 2500$ I could buy 2 upcoming 42" OLEDs...... Just saying.

I can't wait for this but there's a limit for me.
