Same price as an iMac but without the computer?
Has to be at least 5.5K or 6K and 30-32 inch if that's true. A 5K 27 inch shouldn't sell for more than $1,500, even from Apple or it's not going to pull buyers from the LG 27 inch.
Same price as an iMac but without the computer?
in the same boat......... very hard to find the right CAD displays. Everything seems to be for graphics, gaming or excel. So 40 years ago I worked on an A0 drawingboard. (33"x46")
Now I have to compromise with 2 x 4k 40'" screens from M1Max 16" macbook pro
Is it too much to ask for some 40" or larger screens - please?
they're fine. same setup at home & work. Took a bit of getting used to, but wouldn't go back. I used a powered dock at home & work, so one cable to connect.in the same boat......... very hard to find the right CAD displays. Everything seems to be for graphics, gaming or excel.
2 x 40" screens must be hard work?
No, it makes no sense at all since the m1/pro/max GPU's are already faster than the A series chips. More likely it's used for something like DSC in the event it's an 8k display. Or who knows, maybe since it's 32", they'll build in an AppleTV so it can be used for other purposes while not connected. But people who keep saying eGPU aren't really thinking. Apple has more than demonstrated they don't really care for such uses cases.emphasis mine… does this make any sense, to split the GPU between host CPU and the display itself acting like an eGPU?
if this happens will it pave the way for eGPU/ePCI over TB4 on Apple Silicon Macs? (noting that an intel Mac mini with eGPU is still faster for graphics intensive tasks than a fully spaced M1 mini)
What would be an example of ‘two really good monitors’ for 2500? If you could be specific, like what size are you inferring and resolution? You can buy two really good monitors for $2500...hopefully that pricing is wrong
Seriously? You know a ton of people begging for a $2500 monitor? I know a bunch of people who want an Apple monitor, but I don't know a single one who wants one in that price range. After the current Apple monitor siphoned off all the pros, everybody else is mostly looking at the 5k iMac screen, saying, "Hey Apple, please give me THAT." I guarantee you the group I'm talking about VASTLY outnumbers the group you're talking about. These will sell like hot cakes. I personally know so many people that are desperately waiting for a lower-priced Apple display. Instant buy!
a sub 1k monitor is junk? shoot thats news to me, besides being 4k, my dell ultrasharp 2720q is pretty neck and neck compare to the apple monitor. The monitors in that price range are literally junk and Apple wouldn’t lower itself.
its the $1000 iphone that made apple their 3 trillion dollars worth. In Apple eyes $1000.00 is considered $100.00. It's a 3 trillion dollar company you are dealing with.
I have 3x 2720Q's on my desk right now. Let me assure you, they are not remotely close to any display that Apple sells at the moment (iMac, XDR, or otherwise).a sub 1k monitor is junk? shoot thats news to me, besides being 4k, my dell ultrasharp 2720q is pretty neck and neck compare to the apple monitor.
probably not, but my roommate has one and occasionally he needs my pc since adobe is faster on my i9, and he doesn't mind nor care that its attached to a u2720q.I have 3x 2720Q's on my desk right now. Let me assure you, they are not remotely close to any display that Apple sells at the moment (iMac, XDR, or otherwise).
4k is ~8.3 million pixels.
5k is ~14.75 million pixels.
6k is ~20.4 million pixels
If you can't see the difference between 4k and 5k @ 27", then you're simply not the type of customer Apple is selling to.
putting your eye balls right next to the screen does not count as seeing the difference. If you can't see the difference between 4k and 5k @ 27", then you're simply not the type of customer Apple is selling to.
I agree with you, because I see them out there, but I wonder what the actual technology underneath is. Would it be better? Just the apple tax? I’d assume it has True Tone, color matching, better accuracies, calibration, etc to justify the price tag.Hopefully it's 5K otherwise there's a ton of "consumer" 4K displays for super cheap
On the contrary, the blurriness I see on my 2720q's due to them running at non-integer scaled Retina makes it harder for me to see text clearly unless I'm right up against them. The same is not true of glossy 5k's or XDR 6k because they are capable of running at true integer scaled Retina at semi-reasonable resolutions.putting your eye balls right next to the screen does not count as seeing the difference.
Agreed. I'm looking at the LG 34WK95U-W right now to replace a pair of Dell UHD 24" screens, as I want to consolidate things to a single Retina / HiDPI display. 21:9 aspect ratio, 30-34" would be about perfect diagonal size for close desktop use.In the Apple spirt of "Think Different," I'd really rather see an Apple branded ultra-wide. My personal interest is about 40" UW 5K/2K... or basically about TWO 27" classic iMac screens side by side in ONE frame.
The 34WK95U-W is a 163 PPI display. At this point, we're unlikely to ever see Apple produce anything less than 200 PPI. In fact, of all the devices with screens that Apple sells, the Pro Display XDR is the lowest density at 215 PPI.Agreed. Apple's take on it - it'd have to be as thin as the new iMacs and could connect via TB with a single USB-C cable, maybe with daisy-chaining for computers that can support it. Colour matching optional.
Bonus if it includes a 1080p webcam (or better), maybe built-in speakers?
EDIT: Basically, the LG Ultrafine but in an ultrawide form factor? (honestly, now that I think about it, the Ultrafine looks pretty good, aside from its $1,700 price tag)
yes, but the Thunderbolt display was 27", so this would be a huge price increase, even to Apple's already high Thunderbolt display price. Why would you think this?...the 24-inch display could be cheaper, perhaps somewhere around the $999 price point that Apple sold the Thunderbolt Display for.
