Hi guys

I considered getting the new Ipad Pro, but the more I look into it I can't get myself to buy it, because I realised that Apple is milking the cash cow even more than they used to.

For the following, please if you disagree, let me know and I will reconsider my point(s).

- Ipad Pro's price point does not justify the extra features it has.
- Ipad smart keyboard is $149
- Apple doesn't offer the leather ipad cover's anymore for Ipad Pro. Instead you have to buy a silicone cover which is $69 and the smart cover which is $49 = $118 for a case option
- Apple Pencil is another $99.

I was looking to get an Ipad with 128 gb (since there's no 64Gb) option. Even if I just went with the smart keyboard (no pencil and no case) it would be $1077.

In Denmark (where I live) it's $1391 because of taxes.

I just think it's unreasonable.

What do you guys think?
Our governments are ripping us off... I mean 320$ of taxes??? And in Italy is even worse!!

Well, I'm coming to this thread late, but I'd have to say that I agree - more or less - with the original poster. I'l repost something I wrote in another thread.

"I think what bothers me most about the 9.7 Pro is that up to this point, Apple has continually improved each iteration of the 9.7 iPad without a substantial increase in price. Compared to the Air 1, the Air 2 had (has) a better screen (less reflective, supposedly more responsive), a faster processor and improved graphics capabilities, touch ID, faster wireless, a better camera (according to Apple), more RAM and it was thinner and lighter, with the same battery life. But Apple didn't jack up the price.

This time around, the iPad Pro has a better screen (including pencil capabilities), a faster processor and better graphics capabilities, a "smart" connector, an imbedded SIM (for the cellular models) and four speakers. But Apple slapped a "Pro" moniker on it and jacked up the price (a lot, here in Canada). Apple hasn't charged for improvements like this in the past. But now they do. That's what bothers me about this and is one reason why I won't even consider upgrading.

This is Apple's genius plan to increase iPad sales? I might be proven wrong, but I doubt it. Up to this point, I've been a Cook supporter, or at least I was neutral. Now, not so much."

Oh, and if you want to buy an Air 2 with 128 Gb, you'd better hurry before they're all gone. Because if someone wants 128Gb in a 9.7, they now have to buy a Pro. It's an obvious attempt to up-sell.

I was mildly interested to upgrade from my Air 2 to the Pro 9.7, until I saw this video. No longer interested.

Very crappy move. Unless there's a very good reason why Apple shifted the magnets, which I'm guess none other than to make one buy a new smart cover.

That would be a no, going by that video. I was going to do that with my Air 2 smart leather case and smart cover which I have both.

Pretty sure it changed because of the smart connector...not just willy nilly, or to force you to buy a new one.

Nah, I think it's more meant that if you don't use the keyboard, the keyboard folds to it's back and protects it when you are reading or writing on the iPP just like a case would.
No, I honestly thought it covered the back. There seem to be enough folding flaps for that!

Wow. So no back cover, huh? Mega ripoff :)

Just buy a mint used item. Yes Apple products are expensive especially the iPad Pro but there are plenty of people with buyers remorse who are looking to minimise their losses. I have seen plenty of 12 inch iPad pros for sale within a few weeks of purchase at around 35% discount (I bought one).

Should be a similar situation with the 9.7 inch pro.

I think the questions on whether Apple items are too expensive depends on who's point of view. Whether it is from yours as a consumer and whether you as an individual can afford them, or from Apple's perspective and are they selling enough of them.

Based on Apple's profit and performance, I believe they are priced right. From Apple's point of view.

The $70 silicone back cover exists not to sell, but to recalibrate customers' baseline price-expectations.

Yup - known in the business as a 'decoy product'.
Something that exists only to make the slightly more expensive equivalent more attractive.

Like selling a medium-sized drink for only a few cents/pence less than the large size.

I shake my head when I see people selling a working iPad just for these light weight new features Apple add. There is absolutely no benefit for upgrading.

Based on how quickly the iPad Pro 12.9" went on sale for $100-150 off, I would disagree with you. Also the numbers for iPad sales haven't been released yet to adequately report the sales after the Pro release so you're just making stuff up at this point.

Exactly, I often wonder what the point of upgrading to these new iPads are when I read these posts.

I mean, faster performance, a better screen, Pencil support, better audio, better cameras, 4K video support, True Tone flash, bigger screen (if you go for the 12.9"), these things are all just pointless. What the hell are Apple playing at.

Worse than that, people are just idiots for wanting to upgrade for any of these things at all. Do we really need any of it when a slate and chalk is just as good.

What do you guys think?

Premium products ??

That can be a good over justification point to come up with anything as a backup. Particularly when u compare against others equivalent..

The penicil is probably over-priced, and smart-keyboard too,,, but when it comes to Mac laptops, if u compare the same Dell laptops their abut the same price.... so i wouldn't call that "over-priced" by much.

Here in Australia, u pay $200-$300 extra or so extra on Apple products... so i would flag taxes for that...

Can't do anything but move to U.S and that ain't gonna happen.

Today, I used my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil in my math class for the first time.

All I can say is - for me, the pencil is worth every single cent I paid for it.

I think the Pencil is one of the best things Apple have released in a while. Even having owned it for a while it still manages to delight me when I use it.

Oddly I think it's one of the most competitively priced products theve done as well. I've had quite a few different styli for my iPads over the years, from cheap as chips up to the same price range as the Apple Pencil. And not a single one has ever been even as remotely good as the Pencil. It's my favourite new toy :D

Apple are indeed infuriating at times though. Their accessories are typically vastly overpriced and not very good and you can get superior products, cheaper from 3rd parties. The iPhone battery case as an example,
I got my own example: Apple Watch bands. The ones you buy from Apple are great quality, but definitely not worth every cent they're charging by a long shot. I've been buying up a lot of 3rd party bands lately and some of them are literally a 5th the price and look and feel exactly like the super expensive authentic bands. That....that is a little crazy.

But we deal with it because Apple products are some of the best.

I found the pricing great so I purchased 2 iPad Pros with Apple case and Smart Cover. Not all of us are poor so why not leave this forum and go and buy something cheap.

Why do some keep going on about Apples pricing as it's never been so cheap.
No need to be pompous.

I think for accessories, we all know Apple charge extortionate prices. But that's fine as the 3rd part manufacturers like Belkin, Logitech, Brydge etc etc are often far better and cheaper. I mean who honestly uses the Mac keyboard and magic mouse?? 3rd party phone covers, iPad keyboards, mice, Mac keyboards etc etc are typically way better than anything apple puts out. And that's great, more choice for us. And good for Apple as well as the 3rd party companies can really enhance your Apple device. One of the reasons I went with the iPad Mini 4 was because of the superb Brydge Mini keyboard that they make. And Apple clearly actively support the 3rd party companies and they sell their products right alongside the Apple stuff in the Apple stores and website.

As long as Apple keeps these possibilities open, it's fine. Where we should be wary is when Apple start doing things like soldering on the RAM on the Mac Mini and 21.5 iMac so you can no longer save a tonne of money and buy your own RAM and upgrade it yourself instead of paying Apple's ludicrous prices.
