Um, wouldn't Apple ALWAYS want to sell through all of their stock? As that's what it's for?

What would be the point of manufacturing iPhone 4s if they weren't trying to sell them as quickly as possible? Now if they were slashing prices, sure, but...

there most definately won't be a redesign until the iphone 5, imagine the uproar if apple released a new iphone a few months after the 4. i would be really annoyed.

i already have my iPhone but i would agree, apple should make sure they see out all of their current back orders before going into the new territories. they havn't satisfied demand here in the uk either.

It takes at least a full year to design the next iPhone. I'm sure Apple is already half-way through the IP5 design which will include the antenna fix.

Actually - having worked for a major phone manufacturer I can assure you that most likely the iPhone 5, 6, 7, 8 and more could very well already be designed.

Phones take WAY more than a year to develop. Apple, like other manufacturers have several year roadmaps for their projects regardless of whether the technology exists to produce them at the time they are planned.

this is interesting, i was discussing this with someone the other day. just how far into the future have the technological giants planned for?

The interesting thing is I doubt Apple had planned on a redesign until iPhone 6, but now because of the bad press I think they'll move the antenna back to the inside of the case.

That's exactly why they won't move the antenna back in the case, that would to admit they were wrong. Apple will find a way to make the new design antenna work. Though after all the problems with the glass back, I wouldn't be surprised if it went aluminum back like the iPad.

I just picked up my iPhone4 Saturday and no matter how I hold it, cup it in my hands or contort my body around it, it refuses to drop calls. Maybe I am one of the chosen ones to get an iPhone5 in disguise.

i got mine a day after launch and i dont have any issues just like you, its no where near as common as what the media would have you believe.

Are you on 4.0.1?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A306 Safari/6531.22.7)

I do not believe we are going to see a redesign till the iPhone 5.

Especially externally. Once one person finds out they have an older iPhone 4, while others are getting new ones, with the antenna problem fixed.. it'll get ugly. Fast.

The next iPhone would be so slick if they made it look just like an iPad with a little rubbery plastic part for all the antennas.

Just don't touch the plastic bit!

I seriously doubt that. Like another user said, 3 million iPhone 4's were sold in a matter of two weeks, so obviously, nothing is that bad.

No way. After denying any design problem publicly, to redesign any time soon would bring such a s**t storm that Apple wouldn't dare.

My brain wants to agree with you, but Apple has done some some pretty dumb crap since the iPhone was unveiled. Maybe they're having some cellular radiation issues.

June 2007. iPhone 1. The headphone jack is designed to be recessed so deeply, that at first, only Apple headphones can be used without a special adaptor. No mention of the problem from Apple.

Sept. 2007. Apple announces a $200 price cut for a phone that was released a scant 2 months prior. PR sh*tstorm ensues; Apple issues rebates under mounting pressure. D'oh!

Summer 2008. The iPhone 3G has problems with cracked housings and yellow screens. Apple offically ignores the cracks completely, and claims the yellow screens were intentional. Huh?

The 3GS went off mostly without a hitch, save some battery life complaints. But Apple was gearing up for antennagate.

5 years ago, I would never have thought Apple would be the type of company to create something with an inherently flawed design and not own up to it. And certainly if they merely downplayed it, I would never have expected them to then fix the downplayed problem and relaunch the fixed product.

But 5 years ago, Apple was a different company. Now I'm not so sure.

They are launching I'm 17 other countries this week. If they were gonna do anything they would delay 17 more PR nightmares.

This is it folks.

I'm confused. Why does Apple need to do anything with their most successful launch ever? Let's say It makes perfect sense to sell out their entire stock then do a redesign. Then they have to do a recall on let's say 5 million instead of 3 million phones then get hit with a class action lawsuit then get slapped around some more by the media. Not mention Apple's reputation takes a big hit. And it won't be just Apple taking a hit because it affects the suppliers as well. How rational is this? And according to Jobs, it's a "non issue" but if you're not happy here's a case because we're Apple and we're cool. Let's end this redesign rant.

I'm sure there is still a waiting list in Liverpool, UK. I've been on it for 4 weeks.

People who keep bleating that there will NOT be a silent redesign are kidding themselves. Get your head out of the sand, everything is pointing in that direction.

Apple doesn't have an inventory of iPhone 4's to sell, it just looks like Apple has ramped up production enough to get phones out to customers that have one backordered faster, same with the iPad.

No redesign is coming... The process of just getting a new design through the FCC is arduous enough. The iPhone 5 will be the next redesign.
