No way. After denying any design problem publicly, to redesign any time soon would bring such a s**t storm that Apple wouldn't dare.
My brain wants to agree with you, but Apple has done some some pretty dumb crap since the iPhone was unveiled. Maybe they're having some cellular radiation issues.
June 2007. iPhone 1. The headphone jack is designed to be recessed so deeply, that at first, only Apple headphones can be used without a special adaptor. No mention of the problem from Apple.
Sept. 2007. Apple announces a $200 price cut for a phone that was released a scant 2 months prior. PR sh*tstorm ensues; Apple issues rebates under mounting pressure. D'oh!
Summer 2008. The iPhone 3G has problems with cracked housings and yellow screens. Apple offically ignores the cracks completely, and claims the yellow screens were intentional. Huh?
The 3GS went off mostly without a hitch, save some battery life complaints. But Apple was gearing up for antennagate.
5 years ago, I would never have thought Apple would be the type of company to create something with an inherently flawed design and not own up to it. And certainly if they merely downplayed it, I would never have expected them to then fix the downplayed problem and relaunch the fixed product.
But 5 years ago, Apple was a different company. Now I'm not so sure.
