Other Apple is slowing down older iPhones based on battery wear level [MERGED]

You have to determine the root cause. I would start by taking phone to Apple.
Shutting down shouldn’t even be a consideration after a year. These aren’t budget bin phones
My wear Level is at 98%. I will check with Antutu once I am on WiFi. Battery health is 98%.
Does the S8 or S8 throttle or unexpectedly shut down after a year? Does the Pixel shut down? No they don’t. Do they throttle? NO. Apple should be held to the same standards. They are charging more than the competition and they should at least have similar quality batteries.
Sure and cars driven off the showroom in 2017 shouldn’t need a warranty repair either.

Let me try one too.
You buy a new car and a year or 2 later suddenly your car can only go up to 20mph.
You show up to the dealership complaining that something is not right with my vehicle cause it's very slow.
They run a diagnostics check and tell you nope, everything is fine.
We're doing this for you to save you money on gas. The slower you drive the less you will pay at the pump.
But if you want the same speeds you were getting a year or so ago you could trade it in and buy a brand new one.
We can put you on a lease program that every year you get a nice and faster new model with all the bells and whistles and you'd be ok on a never ending payment cycle.
Thank you for your money.
We want you to keep buying new ones each year and not keep them longer than a few years

All cars do not need warranty repair. Apple is saying all phones will be throttled as they wear.
That's what Apple said.
They will continue and are using this "feature" currently on the iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2.1
Li-ion wears down, can catch on fire, etc. they don’t do well in cold or hot. Apple tweaked the power mgmt to make sure the phone stays on as long as possible. Probably should have been more transparent but the end goal is to have a working phone as long as possible.Lol

Yes all batteries wear out eventually and they won't hold charge and will die fast. You can't change that with current battery tech.
All they have to do is tell me.
I don't even care if they don't pay for a battery replacement. I'll pay the $80 if it's after a year and my 1 year warranty is up.
All I'm asking is just tell me about it so I know and understand why my device runs slow. And let me decide if I want to leave it as is for a few months and buy a new iPhone. Or if I want to get a new battery and hold off for another year with my current phone to see what the next years iPhone release is about.
Or if I want to get 3-4 years of use out of it without forcing my hand.

Actually, car engines do lose power over time. I’m not saying I agree with what Apple did.

Apple heavily throttles the CPU based on battery.
Apple didn't tell anyone it does so.
Apple throttles the battery even when the battery passes all diagnostics and is above the threshold at which they recommend changing it.
Apple let people believe their phones were physically fine and thus any slowdowns would be iOS related as they have been the past decade.
People would have purchased new phones based on the poor performance as there would be no indication of any other way of addressing the poor performance.
No. They may lose efficiency but no manufacturer is throttling back max hp. If the pedal is pressed, the engine will perform as hard as it can.
Excellent point. Apple seems to start throttling way before wear symptom shows up on the diagnostics. So in terms of diagnosing any slowdown, the battery is crossed off the list as a cause since Apple says it’s healthy. Nobody will suspect the battery as the source of the slowdown. The evidence is piling up.
Also explains the removal of battery cycle counts on all the apps. Apple is trying very hard to hide the deception.
All of this to avoid a battery recall and of course encourage upgrading. Purely financially motivated. The threat of shutdown is tiny, but boy does it sound terrifying. Your phone will shutdown just when you need to dial 911. Apple will save us with this throttle. Lol. Also to extend the lifespan of an old device Apple so desperately wants us to trash by crippling it. What a load of crock.

You don’t get to be a trillion dollar company by being 100% moral or ethical. This is not surprising.
The fact is one complains their phone is slow it's difficult to determine the root cause. The 4s and ipad 2 people were complaining ios 9 "killed" their devices.
You cannot assume the reason anybody upgraded their phones is due to poor performance; that's a straw man. Since it's been showed that a rogue app could actually slow the phone down and kill the battery.
What apple probably should have done is have another power mgmt mode more indicative of what they were attempting to do. But they didn't. Now there are lawsuits and we will all have to wait to see how this plays out in court.

I want to know what kind of substandard components are being used in the iPhone X if it’s expected to unexpectedly shutdown after just 1 year. Is the focus on cost control so high Apple has started cheapening out on components used? I have a $400 Nexus 5 running an outdated version of Android Been 4 years since I bought it and has heavy battery wear. If I charge it to 100% at 7AM it runs out at 1PM without throttling. Extremely good performance considering the fact that my 7 Plus runs out at 3PM after just 1 year despite their throttling which isn’t even benefitting me in anyway.
