This is what I think

It will be called the iSlate with "MagicSlate" technology.

Just my humble opinion.

Haven't read the thread to know if there's any direction to the rumors...but, from things that I've heard over time, I think that Apple will be releasing a product roughly the size of a magazine (thickness, too). This will be Apple's version of the Kindle, except it will have a color screen and more or less replace magazines and newspapers while also being used as "digital paper". Apple will make a killing on the subscription services that people will sign up for on it. I expect it to excel as a digital notepad. Hopefully it will have built in functionality for "joining" meetings where people that are part of a meeting can distribute materials to each other easily. Because of its size, it will also be a movie player option for trips. Its web browsing capabilities will pit it against netbooks for people that aren't looking for keyboard intensive applications (i.e., not writing papers).

I think Apple could create something like this at a low enough cost for it to be wildly popular.

I would definitely be interested in a multi touch trackpad for my iMac. Don't really have any use for the tablet, but I hope iSlate isn't it's name I think the i is getting a little worn out, doesn't seem very "innovative", however it is brand recognition at this point so it makes sense. I already own a Kindle 2 and I honestly don't see the need for a color screen and definitely wouldn't want a backlit screen for long reading times.

You watch movies on the big screen.
You watch TV on a TV screen.

The name of the new device will be the iScreen.
(no, you do not get ice cream with it!)

First version will suck like 27 inch imac. Guaranteed.

I'm on my mother's new 27 inch quad-core/i7.
If the 'slate' sucks like this, I'd be very happy.

(can't get this machine to use over 200% of it's cpu usage... and it seems to measure up to 800%... is iPhoto single threaded?)

Nice work, Arn!

This is getting juicy. I'm getting the distinct impression that this will be an extremely important and core product from Apple. We're not talking the iPod Shuffle here.

Quadra, don't fritter away your credibility with dank puns.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

iSlave would be perfect.

I beg your pardon

This guy's not having it!

(Mr. Slate, for those animatedly challenged.)

^ Yeah, because that's exactly what the name sounds like-- a joke on 'The Flinstones' like Cary Granite.

Nice to see MR getting mention about scooping the story. MDN, Neowin, and Daring Fireball alluded to this in particular.

That's not probative. I and countless other people have pulled down webpages. For example, i got digged once, exceeded my quota, and started racking up charges. That doesn't mean apple legal is involved everytime a web page is removed.

Since any apple attorney would be committing an ethical breach by demanding takedown, i suggest a simpler explanation is in order.

you're using logic. there's no place for that here. i call foul.

Anyone who suggests Apple would use any other name isn't thinking clearly.

Now THAT is what i call open minded thinking, working outside the box. I'll bet you're great in staff meetings.

out of curiosity

when apple has a major release of a product how do they bring it from apple to the place where the conference is held. is it handcuffed to jobs in a steal briefcase?
