Wait a minute... with no home button surly Siri will need some kind of gesture to be activated? That is, unless they're not including Siri. :(

What about no home button.... but Siri!!!!

"Siri, please go to the home screen"

"Siri, please switch to my Calendar app"

"Siri, please show my multi-tasking bar, then make the icons squiggle, now delete the Calendar app"

:D

THAT would be the feature that would keep me with my iPad 1.

All I know, is that Schiller and Forstall would be having many LOLs, if they looked at this thread.
"They see them trollin'..."

Apple usually doesn't show the product itself in the invite tease. And we've already seen the new wallpapers in iOS 5.1, so why does the device in this invite show the old droplets wallpaper? I'll tell you why. I have no idea!

Also: Now that Apple has the Retina -- they have turned their attention to audio with the whole hi-fidelity thing and the home button area is not shown ... because it would reveal the new speakers! Oh man, I'm good. Hooboy, maybe I should write for CNBC.

If it's upside down, where is the camera?

Some of you must only own iPhones and not iPads. The iPad shows the dock in landscape mode too. In landscape, the icons have extra spacing (like the picture).

On a side note..That calendar icon is considerably less pixelated than on my iPad 2.

I could see them dropping the signature home button. It looks kind of dumb on a tablet (IMHO) but I still want it on my iPhone. The gestures work great on iPad, one of my favorite features.

Apple is never afraid to push the envelope. You say they couldn't drop the home button...don't be surprised, that's all I'm saying. :D

Try Zephyr from Cydia, you'll never use your Home button again.

It's awesome!

I really hope if they drop the Home button they'll implement gestures like Zephyr instead of the way it is now i.e. 4 finger slide.

Right on - - stereo here we come!

Read the text.

No home button and in portrait, Hypothetically speaking.

Now re-read the text.

Gestures? ;)

Does anyone remember this?

I swear i'd never buy an iPad, but at $349 for a 16GB wifi version, i may just have to swoop in and buy an iPad 2 IF this happens.

Apple cut the refurb 16GB iPad1 prices to $350 when the iPad2 was announced. Refurbs come with new battery, new outer shell, and full one year warranty.

From last year: https://www.macrumors.com/2011/03/02/first-generation-ipad-prices-reduced-by-100/

Also, $80 more would have gotten you an new 16GB 3G iPad1 from AT&T's clearance sale: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1120145/

I had to pay $85 to get replace the home button on an iphone 4. Good riddance home button. I hope this carries over to the Iphone 5.

The spacing looks precisely like landscape mode.. /boggle

I think people might be forgetting that the spacing in the dock in landscape mode depends on how many icons you have in there in the first place. I think there are 4 by default, but up to 6 will fit and of course this decreases the spacing between icons.

Aren't we forgetting that the iPad 3 front panels that were leaked show a home button? Yeah Apple could have scrapped it at the last minute, but I don't think so.

I see two possible explanations:

One: The iPad is in Landscape mode but the background image was either rendered differently or changed. Apple touches up their photos a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole screen was a simulated image. Thus whoever added the background layer in photoshop could have made an error or simply didn't know / care who the background was oriented.

Two: The iPad 3 or another iPad model will not have a home button in order to keep it smaller. Maybe a smaller sized iPad ditches the button.

Whatever the case may be, we'll all know by the 7th. :D But in my opinion the home button is good to have. It keeps the orientation of which way the iPad is, which is important for know where the dock connector is. Also it's crucial in a hard reset / hard shutdown when the home button and sleep / wake buttons are needed. Of course they decide to remove that then, well I have no clue.

My signature indicates I own an iPad.

I understand the dock shows in landscape. That's the issue. There is not extra spacing. The icons relative to the background image indicates it isn't in landscape mode. So, someone said it was upside down and that is why I suggested it wasn't due to the missing camera.
