OK, think about it, they show the retina display and lack of home button in the invitation, which makes me curious if there isn't something of more importance to be revealed. And I guess they hint at it in the invitation too: "We have something you really have to see [retina display] AND TOUCH".

Anybody remembering the Senseg "TACTILE PIXEL" technology?

Or much more interesting, TeslaTouch, a technology similar to Senseg's, but developed by DISNEY (yes the Disney where Steve Jobs was a member of the board of directors!!!)

Well, if you ask me, we get to feel what we are touching on the iPad.
And in combination with the new AppleTV, which is for sure going to be revealed there too, you have the perfect gaming controller (and mic for Siri) because you could feel the buttons displayed on the iPad.
Going to be awesome!

Probably not going to happen but holy crap that would be awesome

I get a good chuckle out of all of the grasping for straws that comes from an invite like this. "Only the calendar app is in focus, so obviously the event is based around the calendar app"....Give me a break. We've been through this dozens of times, and none of this EVER pans out. Just give it a break and put your iPad2's on craig's list in the interim. It's fairly safe to assume the ipad 3 will have a higher resolution display and some kind of upgraded CPU/GPU combo. Really, that's all I need. I'll even pay the extra $80 people are speculating IF the battery life is increased as well. I don't care about LTE because it's only available in maybe a dozen cities (none of which I live in) and I always have wifi where I need a tablet.

I love all these "just take my money already" replies. The tech specs aren't even known, and people are all ready to order.

Some fanboys would buy a turd if it had an Apple logo on it.

I'd say those posts are pathetic and reflect poor self esteem and instability in a way.

It's in the wording...

"something you REALLY HAVE TO see."

notice the period.

"And touch."

Think about it ;-)
You really have to see it, to touch it.
My money is on no physical home button - new smart bezel or orientation-sensing capacitive home buttons.

People for there to be no home button that would imply a new API for developers and I have not seen any new API for developers to use that replaces the home button.

There is a home button.

There's no need of an API. Apple doesn't allow people to play with the home button at all. Home button is restricted to OS actions. For e.g.-

- back to home screen
- multi-tasking
- Siri
- accessibility

Apple have now implemented all of those (except for Siri) with touch based input and feedback. The only thing remains to be seen is Siri. I don't know how they have implemented it, but there may be something that we don't know yet.

'And touch' really means a lot. Apple is not going to add it as the catchline without any meaning. Maybe there's a smart capacitive bezel. They did file some patents on smart bezel and its application; also waiting to see if they come out with a dual E-ink/Capacitive touch screen display for this one.

EDIT:
Further down the posts-

This:

This is it. I REALLY hope Apple does this. Will be revolutionary.

SEE - Apple TV

TOUCH - iPad 3
oh is it time to obsessively analyze the wording of the invite for hidden clues?

I want to play!
See is for the iPad 3 new retina screen
Touch is for a new iPod touch that will also be announced!
:)

Based on the finger size relative to the iPad in the invitation, it's clear it will be a larger form factor - so it may not be retina after all...

The missing homebutton is just cuz the picture looks nicer.
As to an Ipad 3 without one would just look ugly and loose its style.

Trust me, there will be a home button as long Jony Ive has his say.

not in landscape?!

just look at the standard background they used:

when the device is in landscape orientation, you don´t see those 6 big bubbles  .. so either they held it upside down or they did remove the home button.

oh and by the way, you can see the difference between retina and standard-res.

This isn't like Apple to do.

I changed my screen to that background. When you have it in portrait mode with 5 icons the bubbles look right but in landscape they don’t match. Any thoughts on why? I think the home button is gone.

LOL you beat me to it!

For those selling their iPad's, is there really a market for them now that everybody knows the iPad 3 is only weeks away?

Why is LTE so important? how often would you use your iPad where you wouldn't have WiFi?

I give up on trying to read all the comments. Each time I finish a page, there's a whole other page of comments #gettingnowhere

What part of "it's an upgrade" is hard to grasp?

Retina display alone is sufficient, and known. That kind of spec bump does not come without a processor & memory bump to match.
The iPad Nano (aka iPhone) has Siri. That the next iPad will have Siri is a no-brainer.
That's enough right there to say "take my money already", especially for those of us still on the iPad 1 and without iPhone.

iMac touch?

Landscape orientation.

I think it was a purposeful move to orient the iPad 3(?) so as not to show the home button. The simplest answer would be that the home button has changed and they want to keep it a surprise. I think there is a possibility Apple may be launching a new product with touch as well (perhaps the iMac).

anyone else notice back looks darker? liquid metal maybe? or it could just be the way the picture was taken...

-Oh home button! Oh Home Button! Where art thou?

-"I'm on landscape mode Bitch!!!"

I can't trust someone who uses the word "cuz".

If that were the case I'd expect them to use the word "feel" in the promo instead of "touch", no?

That would be epic awesome though!
