So, a fairly obvious hint that this is the new iPad in the picture. And we also notice the only icon that is visible is the Maps icon. Something new with maps? Apple rolling out their own service?

like previous posters have said, it's just like the stock ipad photo. but what I'd like to add is: why does everyone jump to OVER-analyze apple invitations? remember last year with the all colored splashed wall for the 1st iPad? everyone was jumping to conclusions that the iPad was mainly a drawing tablet or something... it turned out to be 1000 times more than just that.
what about the Lion Sneak Peak invitation? everyone jumped at concluding that Lion will be 3D just because the Apple icon was opening to the front or something like that...

iPad in the background, with a huge number 2 AND using the iPhone 4 Retina Display default background.

Coincidence? Or just wishful thinking?

definitely wishful thinking! ;)

New iMacs?
New Final Cut Pro
iWork '11
iPhone 5

wishing too much?

On another forum there is this contest of getting the dates and the specs right. I win 3 points if this is true. :D I guessed the date correctly, in January. :D Too bad I don't think I'll get the other specs right. We'll see... :apple:

Yay, only 1 more week until we can read all the posts by people who are disappointed by the features of the iPad 2.

The Apple products cycle

1) Speculate about features
2) Read news stories of feature speculations
3) Read other speculations countering the speculations
4) Speculate about the speculations about speculations
6) Set your hopes unreasonably high
7) When a product is announced, start complaining about what wasn't included
8) Curse Apple
9) Purchase Apple product anyway
10) Return to #1

ROFL! I skip number 8! Good one!

According to this article, Apple have timed the announcement to coincide with the launch of the Xoom. Pretty smart planning there.

My gf's father just notified me last night he bought an iPad, and wondered if it was a bad idea?! haha.

I think he has had it for a couple days, but are his options? I am sure he can return it and pay a restocking fee, does anyone know the time frame for this?

Made my day.

I have the current iPad, IMHO the iPad 2 will have to be very spectacular indeed to beat this one, screen looks great to me, I can wait a year or so for iPad 3

I wonder if they'll demo iOS 4.3? It'd be nice to see some new features which haven't appeared in the betas, like when 4.1 got HDR photos. I'd imagine that the new iPad will be running some sort of version of it.

It'd be nice to see some new features for the Apple TV (app store, gaming) too. This seems to be an iOS-centric event after all.

In related news, the Motorola Zoom is coming out. No Adobe Flash.

See below. :D

Yeah, and other companies cycles goes like this:

1) no one cares about rumors, 'cause their products are mostly dead on arrival
2) when it comes, it has lot of-wanna-be-features, no one will ever use more then occasionaly, rest is half baked
3) few weeks later comes another product with some different code name, with physical keyboard as a additional new feature :)
4)no one complains, no one care, 'cause already in line for apple product :apple:

hello"? can someone explain whats going on please? i havent been on all day and im confused. what do we know. it doesn't seem like the new macbook pros will have anythign special..

I made a nice list of this post and the other one, and have send it to every ******** Idiot thats complaining to my head at work about rumors en new features that they picked up at some nonsense and only for idiots like social site/forum/platform.

I am getting crazy to the point I just DONT want to talk about Apple at work. Pleas leave me alone with my Mac! Go jump like girls in someone else's office!

yeah it hurts.

I heard Steve made some last minute polishments on the iPad 2... Can't wait to hear they have added a 0.1 MPixel camera, so that they can add a 0.3 one the year after... There's gonna be a few turds in the specs on March 2.

Cheap humor...

The look of glory days gone by. Looks like deer in the headlights.

Caption: "Ahhh... we have tablets too! Look, come-on look over here! Hello?"

New Macbooks look like they Rock! Look again!

As for the iPad 2, all we really know is ..... nothing! Rumored to have 2 cameras, faster processor, more memory, potential Lighpeak port.... but this and all of it is just rumors and speculation.

 so who did they create and market the brand "Retina Display" and pioneer the usage of higher-than-print-quality resolution in affordable consumer mobile devices for then?

I didn't say that the average person doesn't care about the retina display on the iPhone. I'm countering the notion that the iPad is going to be a huge disappointment and not sell well unless it has it. It's a disappointment to a few tech-whores like me, but won't mean much to the average person.

I still love the "because it sells alot means it great" argument. Or "Because it sells alot it doesnt need to add X features."

I certainly wouldn't agree with that logic. However I don't hear people usually phrase it that way because people who complain about the lack of a specific feature tend to phrase their complaints like this: "It will be a huge fail if it doesn't have feature x or y" or "If it doesn't have x or y then the other tablets are going to kick it's butt".

If it doesn't have all of the features that you want, then by all means look for something else. However if people are snapping it up like hotcakes and they can't keep up with the demand, it must not be disappointing the average person.

Is it a successful product?
Does it meet MY particular needs/desires?

Those are two very different questions. In order for a product to be successful, it needs to meet the needs/desires of the majority, and Apple seems to be pretty good about doing that.

I think you have 14 days---and they did away with restocking fees. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-20027996-17.html

Tell him to return it ASAP--or open an eBay account. ;)
