iPad two announced a year after iPad 1. Guessing availability in the US in April, again, a twelve month upgrade cycle.

And for those people on here who are meant to have a vague grasp of technology, please stop this ridiculous nonsense about 'retina' display. It's not technically possible, unless u want to fry an egg on the screen and have a ninety eight second battery life and also it's not necessary, the iPad display is beautiful. It has the resolution of a seventeen inch display of a couple of years ago, but with roughly twice the pixel density.

Larger harder drive, battery life improved even further, maybe a ram jump. Probably lighter and thinner. If u want more than that, look elsewhere. This device will continue to sell in the tens of millions in spite of the baseless criticism of the users of these forums.

How about 1280*1024?

My bets:

iOS 5 preview
10.7 Lion preview (again)
iPad 2

CAN'T WAIT!!

This. Why is everyone waiting for iOS 5? What happened to 4.3-4.9? Aren't there enough significant improvements in iOS generations to wonder? It's like asking "When is Mac OS 11.0 coming out? Hopefully they'll preview it next wednesday" There's plenty left between 4.3 and 5.0. Just saying.

And I'm definitely buying this one. I'm guessing 1GB ram and dual core processor. FaceTime camera of course and personally I'd like to see a USB drive or that Thunderbolt drive as well.

Maybe Apple could do a socially responsible thing and tack on $1 per device sold to help cover the medical bills of the people who make these wonderful gadgets? Apple could match it. $1 from the consumer and one from Apple. That would make Apple stand out even more.

'Poisoned' Chinese workers turn to Apple for help
23 February 2011

Chinese workers injured while making touchscreens for mobile devices, including iPhones, have written to Apple asking it to do more to help them.

Some 137 workers suffered adverse health effects following exposure to a chemical, known as n-hexane.

They claim that the Taiwanese factory owner has not given them enough compensation.

Apple did not offer comment on the letter.

Five workers, including 27-year-old Jia Jingchuan, have signed a letter to chief executive officer Steve Jobs, asking Apple to offer more help over the incidents.

They say that the factory owner has not given enough compensation, has pressured those who took compensation to give up their jobs and failed to offer assurance that workers who may suffer fresh illnesses will have medical bills taken care of.

Long-term damage
Wintek, the Taiwanese company that owns the factory, said that it used the chemical in place of alcohol because it evaporated more quickly and speeded up production of touchscreens.

It has now reverted to using alcohol to clean screens.

I made a nice list of this post and the other one, and have send it to every ******** Idiot thats complaining to my head at work about rumors en new features that they picked up at some nonsense and only for idiots like social site/forum/platform.

I am getting crazy to the point I just DONT want to talk about Apple at work. Pleas leave me alone with my Mac! Go jump like girls in someone else's office!

yeah it hurts.
I don't see your point. If youre at work, just focus on it, and don't care about rumors at all.

anyway My reaction you have quoted, was not meant to be offensive, just wonted to have it complete with other product cycles of other companies :-D

I reckon something to do with maps? People thought voice navigation was for controlling the idevice. I reckon its turn by turn navigation to take on googles free offering on android.

Time to get on Craig's List and sell my iPad!

What a glorious week for Mac Addicts this has been! New MPB's, Thunderbolt, and official Ipad 2 announcement!

I'm going to get flamed for this, I know I am, but I don't care ;):D

Sooo hope that there will be widgets, or at least semi widgets, done "apple's way", kind of like how multitasking was not true multitasking but rather "apple's way" of multitasking

HYPE HYPE

PS Apple. You've got iMovie and iWork on your iPad, now it's time for

XCODE! :D

"Hi, what are you doing bro?"

"Oh...nothing, I'm developing for an iPad, ON an iPad"

You wouldn't even need a simulator!

The point is that they don't have to believe everything what they here about apple. It works different there. They don't release like the others do.
So don't come to me.. ill wait for a release or a life feed.

People, myself included, are expecting some iOS5 news in the near future because this is the way Apple has functioned for the last 3 years. A new major revision of iOS has been released every June/July, with a developer preview in March. I doubt there will be any point releases past 4.3.

The question is: will they roll together the iOS5 preview event with the iPad announcement, or schedule a separate iOS5/Lion preview even later in March/April.

Its March, dude. New iOS is previewed in March. Considering iPad 2 will be a mediocre upgrade, future software for it will have to be previewed in order to make this event moderately interesting.

Can you imagine them spending an hour or more showing that its a little bit faster, thinner, and has cameras?

So True...

They are still around, doing their jobs to pour as much cold water on Apple as they can credibly get away with. Now that they were proven wrong that no one would want an iPad, they have switched gears and are steadily predicting that no one will want an iPad unless it has . . . well, whatever it is that they are pushing this month. Retina display? Flog that idea. Camera? Been pushing that idea for a long time.

When iPad 2 comes out, these will be the folks who will ignore the good parts and instead focus on every perceived flaw they can find. iPad 2 will sell tens of millions of units anyway. These folks won't notice. Instead they'll be moaning how iPad 3 "had better have . . ." whatever they decide then, "or else everyone will be disappointed."

They will never cease being wrong. They will never cease not to care that they are wrong. They have an agenda that has nothing to do with accuracy and everything to with picking sides.

Tru Dat, QFT, What He Said, and anything else you can think of to say this is true and accurate. :D

Good point. Agreed. The more I think about it, the more I think this event will spend more time on iOS5/Lion than it will the iPad2. The vague invitation tagline even subtly plays into this. You could easily say that 2011 will be the year of "Mac", "iOS", "Lion", or even "CONVERGENCE", not just "iPad".

Thunderbolt is also the name of a phone. You can buy thunderbolt cables now but they are connector cables for that particular phone. If this is the name of this new type of cable, it will get confusing until that phone goes away.

I think you have 14 days---and they did away with restocking fees. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-20027996-17.html

Tell him to return it ASAP--or open an eBay account. ;)

Thanks! I will let him know. I wasn't aware of the restocking fee waive. Appreciate the info.

Funny thing is, I bought him an iPad gift card for Xmas. I was very clear he was not to use it until this one came out in Spring. He has asked me every week since Xmas if he should buy yet. I always told him no. So he makes it almost 2 months and then buys it a week before the announcement! haha.
