You'd be surprised how much of a difference a better cell chip can make.

I guarantee when the marketing dept sits around determining the naming convention, details like CPU, baseband, OS version, and hardware generation NEVER come into the conversation. What networks it will connect to obviously came up for the 3G, but that would be the exception to the rule, not vice versa.

What is common sense about the 6th gen iPhone being named the iPhone 5?

iPhone model names have NEVER corresponded to generations. They may have accidentally been the same on occasion but the numbers simply do not denote gererations. Why do people suddenly think they should?
