iPhone model names have NEVER corresponded to generations. :D They may have accidentally been the same on occasion but the numbers simply do not denote gererations. Why do people suddenly think they should?

"coz dey stoopid"

Tell what you think...

Ok here's a thought... Do you think apple is calling it the iPhone 5 instead of the new iPhone because it's with the new dock connector? Well that's not necissarily why but think of this. They called it the new iPad and not iPad 3. So are they going to revamp the new iPad with a new dock connecter etc. and call it iPad 3 later this year? And i know they're calling it iPhone 5 because of 4,4s.

Ew. So instead of calling the 2012 iPad--which actually is the 3rd iPad--the iPad 3, they call it the iPad. For clarity.

Then the same year, they decide to call the 2012 iPhone the iPhone 5--despite the fact that it is neither the 5th major version of its shell, but the 3rd; nor the 5th phone they released, since it's the 6th)

Backwards. As hell.
They dropped the naming from iPad because the iPad mini is coming out. iPad 4 and iPad mini 2? I think not. iPad and iPad mini? I think so.

5! :)

I have nothing else to add I suppose, at least without seeming petty. ;)

These kind of posts are why we need a downvote button. Or the removal of the upvote button at the very least.

And back on topic.
It is obvious about the 5. Apple obviously did it on purpose. We've had part leaks for months. Part manufacturing estimate leaks etc etc and the list goes on. Just nice for Apple to confirm what we all, all ready know.

it did with the 4
i dont think apple suddenly and unreasonably decided to name the 4th iphone iphone 4

makes complete fu**ing sense

This thread is mostly full of morons.

It was always going to be called the iPhone 5, we didn't need 26+ pages to tell us that.

Looking forward to a week on Wednesday about 9PM UK time. I'll have my beers ready.

Oh, I liked the humble 'Eating Crow' thing, tickled me.

:D

Someone needs to write a letter to Phil Schiller and explain to him that this CANNOT be "iPhone 5" because this is actually the 6th generation iPhone.

Oh wait, nobody cares.

Well at the same time someone should write Steve Ballmer and explain that Windows 8 is actually Windows version 6.2 and Windows 7 is version 6.1

You want to downvote the owner of the site? LOL

They are calling it the 5 just to ride the lunacy train of every rumor site calling it the 5. It makes zero sense. Pisses me off actually haha

Has anyone seen this yet?

If you wait until 9pm UK time - you will have missed it!!!!! I think UK time normally equates to about 6pm ( that's what time the usual Apple events are normally on over here) ;)
