Probably wrong but I have a funny feeling about this...

I recall Tim Cook banging on about "doubling down" on product secrecy at D10 earlier this year. Then we get leak after leak of parts, cases, covers and the like.

I'm now wondering if Apple is going to release an iPhone that is unlike anything we think we've seen. Nano sim and the smaller connector are probably a given, but I have a feeling that the overall look is going to be something new.

Could Apple have pulled the wool over our eyes, in hope of knobbling any copycats that watching closely? I guess we'll see on the 12th.

Very clever invitation!
Not really. An object casting a shadow of something completely different... that's a very simple design element and used ALL THE TIME.

Ambigrams... now THOSE are clever... words that read the same the same upside-down as they do right-side up.

Andriod fan "Galaxy S3 is outselling the iPhone 4S!!!" > iPhone 5 released > Andriod fan *Silence*

Finally, felt like forever waiting for the invites. Bring on iPhone 5 next week :D

iPhone model names have NEVER corresponded to generations. :D They may have accidentally been the same on occasion but the numbers simply do not denote gererations. Why do people suddenly think they should?

Because when Jobs introduced the iPhone 4, he specifically said it was the 4th generation iPhone connecting it to the 4 in the name. There is no other explanation as to why the iPhone 4 was named that. It was because it was the 4th iPhone model.

But, I'll agree that Apple hasn't had a consistent naming scheme for the iPhone outside of the "S" designation. The 3G was named due to the cell tech, 3GS was named for speed, 4 was named for being the 4th gen. With the 4S, it has setup the "S" designation for the spec bump after a redesign. So it would be reasonable to say that next years iPhone would be called 5S.

These kind of posts are why we need a downvote button. Or the removal of the upvote button at the very least.

And back on topic.
It is obvious about the 5. Apple obviously did it on purpose. We've had part leaks for months. Part manufacturing estimate leaks etc etc and the list goes on. Just nice for Apple to confirm what we all, all ready know.

So you want to down vote the post made by the owner of this site....who was correct in calling it the iPhone 5 all along???

I didn't (care to) read through all 28 pages of this thread, but does anyone think it could mean 5 new products? New iPhone, 3 new iPods and something else perhaps?

Since you know, it IS the 6th iPhone.

Nope, iPhone 4S S = Siri, Tim Cook said this.

Let's wait for sales figures to come out before we start celebrating.

Yeah I'm just saying it is funny for idiots to be laughing that the Galaxy S3 is outselling the iPhone 4S when it came out so long after. iPhone 5 will be Galaxy S3's real competition.

The '5' is of course intentional.

The theory that it's 5 new products is interesting but I believe the stronger guess is that it will be a reference to the iPhone 5 as the name of the next phone.

(Can we please drop the nerd counter that it's the sixth-gen iPhone. The average consumer doesn't know this and more importantly, doesn't care.)

Question: Why would Apple drop the number from the iPad but keep it with the iPhone???

Could be that the iPad is more a "computer" perhaps and wont carry numbers? iMac, Macbook Pro, Mac Mini, Mac Pro etc. They may keep the iPhone numbering.

No, just no. Let it die, you lost, it's the iPhone 5. If you're still clinging onto your "6" theory would you care to wager your house on that? I'm in if you are... :)

So the sixth iPhone will be "iPhone 5"...

The seventh will be "iPhone 5S".

The eighth iPhone will be the "iPhone 6".

And people really think this makes more sense than simply calling the SIXTH iPhone the "iPhone 6" or "The new iPhone"???

......we're you like this when the second generation iPhone was iPhone 3G or when the 4s was the 5th generation? Lol they started this X then Xs from 3 lol so the pattern goes 3G ,3GS ,4,4s , then 5 , 5s, if they skip to 6 they will skip another number like they did with the iPhone ,iPhone s ,iPhone 2 ,iPhone 2s lol if the very first iPhone would have had 3G baseband I think the numbering would have been better and not all this arguing over numbers lol.......
