Nope, iPhone 4S S = Siri, Tim Cook said this.

I didn't say they named the 4S with S= spec bump. But so far with the iPhone, a phone with the "S" designation has been a spec bump of the previous iPhone. Apple marketing can probably come up with multiple reasons as to giving the "S" designation some sort of meaning( like with the 3GS being for speed and 4S with Siri).

All I am saying it would be reasonable to expect the next iPhone to be called 5S as so far that has been the pattern with the iPhone's spec bump. Could it change? Sure since we don't know what Apple marketing will think of. But, I am simply going off of pattern( the only pattern of the iPhone's naming scheme).

they will just announce that due to SG3 and the leaked parts, the "real" keynote will be hold on 5th December (12/5) :D

I didn't (care to) read through all 28 pages of this thread, but does anyone think it could mean 5 new products? New iPhone, 3 new iPods and something else perhaps?

Since you know, it IS the 6th iPhone.

Original iPhone (1)
iPhone 3G (2)
iPhone 3GS (3)
iPhone 4 (4)
iPhone 4s (5)
New iPhone (6)

Ah!

Or

Original iPhone (1)
iPhone 3G (2)
iPhone 3GS (2.5)
iPhone 4 (3)
iPhone 4s (3.5)
iPhone 4s CDMA (4)
New iPhone (5)

This is so simple. This will be the 6th generation of the iPhone therefore it will be called the iPhone 5. We had the original, 2 - 3's and 2 - 4's. It's the new math:D

Original iPhone (1)
iPhone 3G (2)
iPhone 3GS (2.5)
iPhone 4 (3)
iPhone 4s (4)
iPhone 4s CDMA (4.5)
New iPhone (5)

The Verizon 4S is the same phone as the AT&T 4S. It is just locked to either one of the carriers.

Maybe you meant the CDMA iPhone 4. ;)

This may be the most anti-climactic announcement in recent Apple history.

You wrote this before the 700 comments on this thread. It seems increasingly doubtful but I hope Apple offers the iPhone 5 in two screen sizes. Some of us think the current screen size is just fine but want LTE.

They will call it "The New iPhone."

The invitation could have read: 'We are announcing the iPhone 5, that's five. FIVE, no seriously five, number (5), on Sept. 12th' and people would still not get it. It's sad.

I know your signature says that grammar nazis will be ignored, but your sentence requires one or two expletives... (could even be a mild one like bloody) :D

Your quite right, I'm just not sure what's allowed here expletive wise so I played it safe.

I'll throw my hat into the "5 things coming" group. My prediction

-iPhone
-iPod Touch
-iPod Nano
-iMac
-Mac Mini

iPad Mini will have it's own event, although I still have some doubt it's coming. Not ruling it out completely, just sayin I have some doubt about it.

Or maybe

-iPhone
-iPod Touch
-iPod Nano
-iTunes 11
-iOS 6

They aren't going to announce all of the new devices in one keynote people, lol. That would take like 5 hours. They generally have keynotes for like 1.5-2hr.

----------

Why is there a YouTube icon? iOS6 removed the YouTube app.

Because it is a fake image.

After looking at the image again it kind of does look like a 5 but still doesn't mean anything at all.

Call me crazy, but with the 5 being in the reflection and all, could this be far too obvious for the event to cover the iPhone 5?

Surely, Apple will take the same route that they did with the naming scheme of the iPad, with the iPhone.

Could the '5' on the image represent the fifth 'revolutionary' new product that Apple will release. After the Mac, the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad.

Then just announce the new iPhone in October, seeing as September has always been an iPod month.

Just my view, I could be reading way too far into this...

:)

This is unusual for Apple in many ways, most notably how it's going to happen about exactly a week after the Nokia/Windows Phone announcement. Comparisons will be everywhere, and if Apple doesn't deliver on NFC and Wireless charging in a 4.5" device, it will appear as though they're slipping.

And they won't add that much tech to the iPhone 5. Or if they do, color me surprised.

Why do you think Nokia scheduled their announcement for this week? Rumors of an iPhone announcement on 9/12 came long before Nokia's.
