I'll be interested in seeing what else Apple changes in this. I've owned the 3rd, 4th and 5th iPhones (that's the 3gs, 4 and 4s) but I don't see anything making me jump on to get this model.

It's getting thinner, so I don't see them improving the camera. I don't think they'll make a model with more storage. I don't live near LTE, that probably would be a selling point. NFC (if it's still in the rumors) wouldn't make me upgrade unless it somehow offered me discounts(!). A half inch more diagonally isn't enough to cough up the money for me.

Personally, I don't need it thinner. Make it thicker. Add more battery. Put an even better lens in it. Not likely to happen, but I'd like that.

I'd really like a nicer front camera/lens with a light for it; a dim one, the back one is pretty bright (half that would be enough, just a third would be good), just something to make FaceTime a tiny bit clearer (especially for the better lens/resolution).

And get rid of the glass back and aluminum edges!!! Rubberize the edges and back, I'm tired of people dropping them!

Gary
Soooo the 4s was worth upgrading from the 4 but this 5 won't be with quad core bigger screen faster thinner metal back not glass ....maybe a better front camera ok

should be a 6 for iOS – their phone numbering doesn't add up

iPhone
iPhone(3G)
iPhone(3G)s
iPhone4
iPhone4s
iPhone5(4G)

(or a TNi for The New iPhone)

It's more likely they've got a 5 inch screen they've been keeping secret or they've got 5 products to release.
Please, everyone focus on the 5-inch screen or 5 products option, because that's the point of this post.

Gary

5" screen is a possibility. But that mean the screen size will be so close to the iPad mini's 7". If 5" screen is true, I bet there won't be an 7" iPad mini.

Curious about the lack of stock updates - I feel like normally by now, we'd be hearing reports of low stock on items due to be replaced. Logically, this should include:

- iPod Touch
- iPod Nano
- iPod Shuffle
- iPhone 3GS

The last one, for me, is the most significant. I'm wondering if, given the unexpected iOS6 support for the 3GS, Apple is considering keeping the phone in the product range as a really low end option? It's certainly not something I'd buy (nor did I think they'd keep it live), but the continued support and the lack of "out of stock" reports suggests to me that it might be an option.

Could be wrong on the iPods though - I can't recall whether we normally get the same reports on stock prior to new launches - I know we didn't last year, but we didn't technically get new iPods last year. Curious, if nothing else.

I think the 5 means 5 things to announce :)

1. iPod nano
2. iPod shuffle
3. iPod touch
4. The new iPhone
5. One more thing :) the new iPad mini :D

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

I am laughing at all the people who said it wouldn't be iPhone 5 ha ha ha ha ha ha

That will teach you to keep your mouth shut

Um, where does it say "iPhone 5"?

I told you. The 5 means 5th anniversary of the iPhone. It won't be called the iphone 5 or 6.

You didn't tell me anything. I wouldn't listen even if you did.

If i was you i'd keep that opinion to yourself until the 12th September. You obviously know EVERYTHING though.

LMFAO @ all those arguments about it not being the iPhone 5.

Sure looks like it'll be the iPhone 5. EAT IT!

I would find it really hillarious Tim announcing it to be the new iPhone, and the shadow 5 being a joke, just to mess with all of us... :D

funny how you guys actually believe :apple: gives a **** about people posting on MR

What WILL happen:
-Apple announces a breakthrough device next Wednesday and showcases 16, 32, and 64 GB models all with an aluminum backing and glass-encased front plastic panel (white or black), they'll also say it is roughly as thin as the current generation iPod Touch and back it up with numbers. There will be a two-tone back, but only up top (black plastic area to allow for radio transmissions similar to iPad + 4G). Everyone will complain how ugly it is and then not even remember after they put their precious otter box case on it.
-Camera improvement: At least 9 MP, probably 10. Better auto-focus and optics.
-SOC is updated: A6 perhaps? And quad-core for sure. If not that, then at least quad-core graphics.
- <= 4" Display: There's no arguing this. It's a definite.
-Dock connector will in fact change to about 8-10 pins to accomodate new form and design. Go ahead, everyone: cry. They'll make adapters.
-4G standard: Across the board with all carriers.
-Much better Siri integration (yea remember her?): This will be announced out of beta stage and opened up to developers with new APIs.
-And of course, that "One More Thing" that Apple is notorious for: Something totally out of the ball park that sets this update apart from any other. LikeSiri was for the 4S. Apple will have to add that one thing that makes people go from "Eh, I can live with my current iPhone" to "Holy balls, I gotta have that!".
What WILL NOT happen:
-NFC communication: Not this soon, anyway.
-Taller form factor: It will become wider to fit the new screen, not taller.
-New headphones: Like I've said so far, unless they have to in order to accomodate the new design, this will not get an overhaul.

And cue the complaining...
So are you calling BS on the taller iPhone leaks?

I'm so starting to think that Apple was trolling everyone with the "5" thing and name it as new iPhone.
