I don't mean to be rude, but you're extremely delusional. After all of the PHYSICAL leaked parts, the videos of people holding the parts, several website getting ahold of these parts... you STILL don't believe it? Like... what the ****?

There's no such thing as a teardrop iPhone! That picture was a RENDER. There was no evidence for that phone.

There's literally probably hundreds of articles all with actual pictures, videos and information about the SAME new iPhone.

I'm really baffled. Like what the hell are you people expecting?

It's hoping. I know deep down the phone is gonna look like the leaks. I just hope it's different because it is quite ugly, not the design but the long screen. I wouldn't mind the design if the screen was proportionately bigger.

I was kinda hoping they would retire these numbers. It is getting kinda stupid. The iPad gave me hope that we would move on from this.

Since I don't have LTE here this might be the first iPhone that I don't buy on day one. Since the other upgrades seem minimal.

I wonder if we will see iTunes 11 and a final date for iOS 6.

Just out of curiosity... What shall they call the next iPad?
The New'er' iPad?
then the next?
The New'est' iPad?
The number system works for me...

Anyone going spoiler-free? I want to be blown away by the keynote video rather than read minute-by-minute updates and forego the magic.

I feel the same way. I try to do the same for the Sony and MS gaming conferences. :)

Yep I intend to go spoiler free. I did that for iOS6 announcement and I enjoyed it a lot more. Though it made it a lot easier to not get interested and see news from news site because I worked all day that day. lol.

Soooo the 4s was worth upgrading from the 4 but this 5 won't be with quad core bigger screen faster thinner metal back not glass ....maybe a better front camera ok

As I've said, I'd be happy with a rubberized case, so I don't care about the case or the physical looks; beauty is nice, but features/function is more important (that goes for dating too).

It's rare I watch video on the iPhone and the larger screen will not make much of a difference; if it's a 720p movie, I really want it on a bigger screen (say my iPad or 100 inch TV).

Make it thicker with more battery life and a better ZOOM lens.

I found a checklist of what I wanted on the 4 to 4s upgrade it's all over the forums and on a post blog post: http://garysaid.com/why-i-upgraded-from-iphone-4-to-4s/

I Needed: (wanted!)
  • More megapixels with a better lens.
  • Image stabilization.
  • More storage space.
  • Faster (of course).
  • Faster downloads and uploads (of course).

Would like: (not likely).
  • Better front facing camera
  • Light for the front facing camera
  • Significantly better rear camera. Make the camera thicker to accommodate better lens with real zoom.
  • SD slot or USB adaptor.
I pretty much got what I needed (although I really am not sure how much faster my data got, I think a bit, but that might have been antennas and not protocols).

In case you didn't notice I really really wanted a better daytime camera and they came through for me. I like to upload on the go; I've love the SD adaptor to import like I can to the iPad.

Speed will almost always increase, so that's an assumption.

And again LTE, is not present here so while that might be a sweetener, not for me. I see me upgrading next year with those minor upgrade with this year's being a no brainer.

A few surprises and a good price from Gazelle and AT&T giving me a good upgrade price will all factor in too... But I really don't see it.

They didnt count the 3GS, its just a Speed version of the 3G iPhone. The iPhone 4 is just coincidence. If you stop counting you will get it.

They did count the 3GS, because what else does the 4 mean in "iPhone 4" but "the fourth iPhone"? You're saying they went from 3G to 4 because 4 is 3 + 1, but that makes no sense. "4" does not come after "3G". That's like saying that Banana comes after the number 12.

Look at it this way: iPhone (2G), iPhone 3G, iPhone 3G S are named for their tech. iPhone 4 is named that way because it's the 4th generation iPhone. iPhone 4S is a minor tweak to the iPhone 4, so that name makes sense.

If the iPhone 5 is next, then the model part of the name has become meaningless for the first time... because 5 is merely 4 + 1. It'll still be the 6th-generation iPhone.

Ultimately it doesn't matter and I don't care outside of this thread. But it's a disappointing inconsistency from a normally perfectionist company.

The iPhone 4 was both the fourth iPhone and a major case (and display) change from the two iPhones with a '3' in them. The iPhone 5 will be a clear case and display change from the two iPhones with a '4' in them. How is that not a clear pattern?

There have been four case designs, (1) original iPhone, (2) 3G + 3GS, (3) 4 + 4S, and now (4) 5 (+5S?). Naming the 3G 3G was opportunistic, it described a feature not a case design. Naming the 4 4 was also opportunistic, it coincided with being the fourth model and a different case design from the two models with a 3 in them. We now have two models with the same case design and the same digit in them and a new case design with a 5 in the name.

The increase in processing power from the 3G to the 3GS was similarly to the increase from the 4 to the 4S (single-core to dual-core, in case of the latter).

You might think to be completely logical, the first iPhone would have to be called iPhone 1, the second iPhone 2 (case and feature change but same processor), the third iPhone 2S, the fourth 3, the fifth 3S, and so forth. But development is not completely linear and nobody can plan ahead that far perfectly and marketing often takes shortcuts if there are other benefits (like labelling a new model with its most important new feature: 3G).

Another reason I still hold out hope is the very first time we saw the elongated iPhone, wasn't it admitted to be an artists rendering or admitted fake? Maybe this caught on with Chinese suppliers and these leaked parts are fake. Isn't there some doubt because apple doesn't seem concerned with it at all. Wouldn't they be shutting stuff down left and right if it was legit?

Just trying to convince myself there is hope for a crazy surprise next week.

What an ignorant comment. If you purchase an iPhone 4 brand new after iOS 6 is released, you will get iOS 6. If you purchase a 4S, you will get iOS 6. If you purchase a new iPhone/iPhone 5 (not getting into a battle about the name), you will get iOS 6. Explain to me how you can differentiate without a difference in naming the iPhone itself?

Do you think the iPhone 4 originally came with iOS 5?

Ignorant right?!

Just look what they did with the iPad. Look at the box of the iPad, from now on they only write iPad on it with the the latest iOS sticker on it. From now on it doesn't matter if the numbers of iOS and the iPhone doesn't correspond to each other. Forget about the iPhone numbers and just focus on the iPhone itself with the latest iOS 6,7 etc. Next year we propably will see a new iPhone again but this time with iOS 7 and the next year so on. It's just the thing that people need to forget about the iPhone numbers. They changed it with the iPad, do you see anyone complaning or getting confused.

Every new iPhone was released with a new iOS. Based on that you can from now on say I have a iPhone iOS 6,7... release.

True, we all lose because most of us were predicting it'd be marketed as "the new iPhone."

But, no, those who had issues with iPhone 5 weren't people who passed 1st grade counting but didn't know how the real world works. See post below:

damn you must of broken into apple's labs and stole all their secret info on the names of future devices
how else would you know exactly what they are going to name the next 4 iPhones

The new iPad. It will be the iPad (4th generation).

The current iPad will continue to be called the iPad (3rd generation) as it is now.

I think you're looking at this from the wrong perspective.

You need to look at it from a marketing point of view.

If you were to stop x amount of people in the street and ask them how many iPhones there have been, I think the majority of them would say 4 and that's why I think Apple will simply keep it simple and market it as either the iPhone 5, or the new iPhone to keep it nice and simple for people who, when asked what phone they have, will be able to answer with a title that clearly states they've got the very latest model.

A 6 in the title would indicate that too, if they called it the 6 people would as for it. Please note, I'm not suggestion "iPhone 6". Marketing would be better to have a 6, it's the 6th revision! "It's the 2012 model, it doesn't matter if we changed it, it's the new model."

With your logic marketing would have been better to called last years a 5.

And the second iPhone had a 3 (3g) in the title (and then a 3gs).

Again, the iPad 3 would have made sense with marketing too. But that's not what they did.

People having the (6th) iPhone 5 running iOS 6 is a support (marketing?) nightmare too. Maybe not nightmare but clearly confusion. People cant keep straight Windows and Office versions ("I've got Windows 2003" or better yet "I've got Microsoft 2000").

I still think it is ridiculous to call the 6th generation iPhone the "iPhone 5", assuming that is what the 5 is referring to.

New iPhone
New Shuffle
New Nano
New Touch
rMBP 13"

count em..

NO. This '5 new products' theory is idiotic. Apple's invite says "It's almost here." IT'S. Not "they". Has Apple forgotten basic grammar now?

It's clear that iPhone is pointing at the iPhone 5 with this invite. I mean, damn, is it that difficult for you guys? They make the simplest invite and everyone has to read into it.

It seems like most people supporting this theory are the ones who still think it'll be called the iPhone 6.
