My take on how the pricing is going to go:

Firstly, cut off selling the iPad 2 for $399. So instead of the current iPad and older iPad, it's going to be the iPad and iPad mini for sale from now on. The iPad will always be better, specs-wise, than iPad mini.

Start iPad mini at $399 for 16gbs, $499 for 32gbs, and $599 for 64gbs. LTE iPad mini's will be available too. I'm not sure about the colors but I'm going to garner that they'll be in black/slate and white/silver, just to match with the just released iPhone 5. Or they might go with the colorful route they took with the iPods, but I think the former is more likely.

Of course this is purely conjecture. Just my two cents :)

Exactly. iPads are always released in the Spring. iPhones are aways released in Summer. Always.

These things never change. You can count on it. It's as predictable as Apple's naming conventions.

Except last year when the iPhone was released in the fall and now the Mini will be out this fall. Nothing is definite with Apple anymore.

I'm still waiting on which apps will work. Everyone is saying it will have the same resolution of iPad 2, but then all the UI elements will be smaller so it will not be "as the developer intended".

Bring on Tuesdayyyyyy!!

I'm surprised no one has disected the rest of the invite yet.
Do the colours mean anything?

The original iPad invitation had a similar style (http://www.cio.com/images/content/articles/body/2012/03/ipad.jpg) with the colours possibly showing the creativity and content possible on the iPad. The 'paint splatter' style was used throughout the original announcement. A "little" more to show, coupled with the colours recalling the original invitation definitely suggest the iPad mini.

The fact that the invitation is zoomed in compared to the first could probably also be seen as a suggestion that the device will be smaller, showing less (which is also less possible considering the rumour that the resolution will remain consistent between this and non-retina iPads).

All of this is just my opinion, based on the idea that it is suggesting the iPad mini, and potentially completely wrong and insane.

I'm with the people saying it's iPad mini due to the paint splatters. Original iPad poster had big paint splatters. This one has smaller paint splatters. I think it's far more straightforward than some people think. 2p - kerching!

They won't just go a random number on the resolution, they need to keep it on context with their existing devices to prevent fragmentation for developers and applications.

Like they did with iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4? Like they did with iPhone 4 to iPhone 5? Like they did with iPad 1/2 to iPad 3? Like they did with iPhone to iPad?

I agree it's a problem, but it's one they've created already several times. I don't want developers to have another problem, but I won't be held back by them with an inferior screen, I demand more. Unless Apple can shrink iPad 3 resolution into the Mini size, I'm sorry but developers will just have to bite it. (and I'm a former developer)

Speaking of colors... I might pass out from excitement if they release a black Retina MBP. I'm not counting on it though... I just love the look of my matte Black MacBook. I still get compliments on it these days.

Ahhhhhhhhh ... Agreed.

I'd say iMacs are definitely coming next week.

Out of curiosity I just checked on the UK Apple online store and standard configurations have slipped from "in stock" to 1-3 days.

BTO's have slipped to 7-10 days!

I'd say the iMac refresh is very, very likely.

To all of those who have (very patiently!) waited ... good for you ;-)

No it's not, it's Apple, it will be the same price as the 8.9" Kindle Fire HD hence the comparison. Their is NO WAY Apple is going to start this thing from $199, $299 minimum but I think more like $349, that's actually LESS then the new iPod Touch starts from in the UK, it is priced from $401 with tax in the UK.

Apple is NOT going to sell the iPad Mini from $100 LESS then the new Touch!

Like I said before, 8GB Wifi only $249.99.

The new new iPad will be re-leased in the Spring like it always is.

Yes, that was my point. Apple stopped participating in MacWorld, so they would be free to introduce new products when they were ready, rather than having to have them on a set schedule.

Apple has a longstanding tradition of releasing iPads in the Spring. They've done it that way for three years in a row. There's no precedent for Apple changing its schedule. Except there is. Steve would never have allowed them to change the release schedule (he would have orchestrated the change, if he thought it was better).

We haven't seen any stories about iPad 2 being in short supply.

I'm guessing that the iPad Mini will be either $200-249, since It'll be competing with the Nexus 7 & Kindle Fire..

My take on how the pricing is going to go:

Or there is a reason why Apple decided to price the iPod touch the way it did having the entry model start at $299, leaving room for the smaller form factory iPad to start at $199 (or even $229)

An entry price of $399 is not being competitive with other 7" devices currently on the market and pricing it $100 less than the 9.7" Retina iPad makes no sense.

But just like you, I am also just speculating.

Wonderful news for all those who were so desparate for this rumor to move to reality. I hope they all get the cool tech they need.

I think if your primary goal is reading - the $69 to $119 kindle black and white displays are a pretty sweet approach. I have a kindle ink type tablet, and a glossy tablet. ( ipad2) As much as I'd like to have one, I never use them for the same task...

Appreciate the advice and agree with you to some extent . . . the text on e-ink looks like paper. But I'm having a hard time reading paper now a days, let alone my Kindle 3G/keyboard. I've developed a really bad case of not being able to see in low lighting over the last few years. It actually causes me discomfort to read that Kindle. So when I saw the Paperwhite, I thought that was the answer. I don't want an iPad, I've got a MacBook Pro and an iPhone, iPad seemed redundant. But when I read those reviews, and saw those photos, I realized the extra money for an iPad will finally get me back into reading. I used to read like mad, but once reading became uncomfortable, I stopped.

The mini iPad will be more than a reader, it will be a superior gaming platform over the iPhone (bigger screen), and I will finally have an iPad for development purposes, as I have recently gotten serious about pursuing that once again.

Cheers!

I was hoping for one of those good old keynotes where they introduce multiple products and finish it with a "one more thing", but this "focus on iBooks" nonsense kills most of that hope.

Cook will waste the first 15 minutes on pie charts where Apple makes up 98% and five competitors are microscopic slices. He will also say that they've sold eBooks in numbers with lots of zeros in them and that iBooks is the most amazingly massively successful and important endeavor in the history of multi-cell organisms.

Then the president of iTunes Store content will come up and say the exact same things, pacing back and forth and gesturing excitedly.

Then there'll be 30 minutes of publishers coming up on stage to babble endlessly about what a hugely exciting new opportunity it is for everyone at Poopcrane & Vomitlard Publishing Ltd to work with Apple on this thing that nobody gives a **** about.

And then when you're so bored that you're having seizures Cook will return and say that they have prepared a video. The video is 5 minutes long and features the same publishers repeating what they said two minutes ago, only now with cheesy optimistic background music.

When most of the audience has died, Cook will finally unveil the iPad Mini and talk for 30 seconds about specs, before moving on to 10 minutes of ramblings about what a wonderful platform it is for iBooks.

No one seems to have noticed the way the apple logo is combined with the paint splatters to resemble the silhouette of an open book... This is obviously another hint towards the focus on iBooks.

1024x768 162 PPI is MUCH less then the higher 216 PPI found on the 1280x800 found on the Nexus 7 and Fire HD. If Apple don't even match this resolution it will be laughable considering the high price they will no doubt charge. .

Or not. apple will show the math and how the lower res is Retina and talk of how that higher res is just overkill that drains the battery etc. and folks are so battery nuts that that will win them over

How is this event gonna be a "Little More to Show" ?

OMG It is actually real!

Only if Apple says so on Tuesday
