They couldn't have this media event on October 5th as a nod to the "5" theme? Maybe only the iPhone 4S will be announced?

Everytime one of you knuckleheads writes iPhone 4s I want to slam my man-bag in a sliding glass door.

Would it have been too difficult for them to put a 5 on the phone icon instead of a one. Now we have to wonder what the one means.

All the icons are pretty clear except for the badge on the 'Phone' icon:

Calendar = date
Clock = time
Map ≠ Turn by Turn, Map = Place (Infinite Loop, Cupertino)
Phone = New iPhone
Badge = 1 New iPhone?

Different clock icon

Anyone else notice that the clock icon says 10:00, instead of the normal 10:15? It could be related to the date and time of the event, but I wonder if the icon itself will update in real time...

Like a widget might update...

:D

+1

But I also hope it won't be completely about iphones. I'm overdue for an ipod! Still using 1gen nano, and waiting to see what's next! Love to hear about mac pro's with thunderbolt too!

Love of the icons, and here's my own spec on that phone badge; since it is about notification, and since the other icons are all used to their functions (clock shows exact time, date shows day and date like the app suppose to...) I'm thinking the phone app is using what the badge means to convey a message/pun intended.

So doesn't phone app get a badge when there is a miss call, or voicemail? So using a metaphor of a missed call/voicemail badge ... but what could that mean? You missed a call from Apple??? Somehow that doesn't seem right... but someone clever here could possible relate the notification of a miss call/voicemail to something better?

Oh we're all about to go bananas here, eh?

Ok boys & girls, now it's time to make 1,000 threads about the same pontificating BS we've already been discussing. Only this time, preface it with, "Now that we know the date of the announcement..."

So much preemptive palm in my preemptive face.
