I hope this marks the return of Steve. Of course I have to be in school when it starts:(. Oh well.

Love the reference to The Stones, BTW. Wouldn't it be awesome if they made an appearance.

Don

Here's a preview. If you squint, you can see what the new iPods will look like. :)

CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!!

1)Some people don't have/still make crappy 128K mp3s from the dark ages of 1996

as do I, I don't care if it takes me 10 years to listen to every song and watch every movie on my ipod. I want all of my media on one device all the time that fits in my pocket. Unfortunately this can't happen with movies in any way shape or form, so I at least want all my music and a lot of movies on one device all the time and that requires at least 150 gigs

Well, I don't want to PRE-DECIDE what I want to listen to (or watch) before leaving the house. I get whims when I'm OUTSIDE, and like to have that media available when I actually feel like listening to it. Simple really...

Um, because sometimes you don't know ahead of time what music you feel like listening to? If you have your whole library, you can play anything you want. And if you are at a friend's and have it plugged into a stereo, you can play what other people want to hear that you might not have thought to sync.

Guys, seriously. Quit complaining and just wait until the iPod Macro comes out in a few years. I hear it's supposed to have four bays that can each hold a 50 TB SSD...

CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!! CAPACITY!!

for a second, I read this and thought Steve Ballmer had invaded the thread...

I still don't get why you need to put everything on your device? Why not effectively use Smart Playlists and the like and let iTunes manage it for you?

You're not going to be listenin' to all 160GB all the time. I just don't get it.

agreed- I can't help but have the impression that most of this stems from having a "hoarding" mentality (similar to those old women you see driving around in the 1990's minivan filled to the brim with plastic bags- seriously, what's the point?)... I'm not saying it's unreasonable for people to want to carry their entire music collections with them, but it's definitely not the mentality of the majority of the iPod-carrying public.

my personal preference is to keep my most-listened-to songs on my iPod, along with my most-watched videos and a collection of applications... a solid 60-100GB would be plenty for me at this point, anything beyond that would be overkill.

as for the 9th, I'm looking forward to two things: 1) iTunes 9 (hopefully with a 64-bit version for Snow Leopard), and 2) a new, higher-capacity iPod touch, though I'll have to hold off on buying one until I have spending money to work with again... as for the Beatles discography on iTunes, the only plus would be that I could finally download iTunes-based album artwork for my existing Beatles collection (and the remasters, once I can afford to buy them). beyond that, though, anything else that Apple release in this event will be nothing more than eye-candy, for me at least.

No, those earphones are way too big, wouldn't fit in our ears... I call a fake.

On the other hand that picture does bring up an interesting point... What if Apple were to release a T-Rex? That would be ground braking.

Although I think you meant groundbreaking =P

Still my ? hasn't been answered.

Will Michael Jackson be playing?

By September 2012 (the expected release date for the Macro), evolution will have weeded out the small-eared. Only giant-eared people will remain. Thus, the giant earbuds.

...not sure if this has been mentioned already, but it's definitely an ipod touch revamp: look at the cord coming out of the bottom of the ipod in the photo.

is it new itouch in the invitation card? it looks little thick.... probably it has camera. anyway, there are few things very clear.

1. iphone software (including ipod touch) 3.1 update
2. iTunes 9.0 (including cocktail feature)
3. new ipod family (ipod touch, nano). but I guess ipod class, shuffle will be obsolete right away.
4. bigger capacity (64GB). 8GB will be remain in nano (not touch)
5. price will be the same.

other than that, I have no clue.

If :apple: is all about a good user experience,
and if Steve Jobs is the one who decides what that actually is,
then I hope he has also noticed that it's getting to be a pain to
sync and backup multi-gigabyte devices using the USB2 bus.

There were times when :apple: pushed the envelope on new interface standards (and with the mini DisplayPort they still are) so...

Let's have iPods with USB 3 (and/or eSATA) interfaces. No Apple computer will be able to use the new speeds of course (until they announce new models), but PCIe USB3 cards are bound to surface for PCs soon.

What would suck is if Apple releases iTunes 9 that only has support for Intel and the new Touch only supports iTunes 9 and the only mac I have access to is PPC.
I suppose that WOULD suck, but it's highly unlikely. While Apple will eventually drop PPC support for iPods, it's not any time soon. I think it's likely that they'll drop iTunes support for PPC first.

That being said... I have 5 Apple computers and 3 of them are Intel... I want me some 64-bit capable iTunes.

although I doubt Apple would discontinue the Shuffle. probably just release a new version

Its all good stuff, who cares what it is. Tablet will come eventually, capacity of everything will increase like every year, some prices will drop,
They will change the shape of the nano to make it look new, i have the beatles on CD's at home and don't really care if they are on itunes.

None of its going to change my life because both my ipod and mac are still working, (just sold iphone) Will it change yours?

You don't get it. It's about not having to pre-decide what I want to listen to. I DON'T want to listen to the most-listened songs, or any other selection parameters that a Smart (um..dumb) playlist can give me. It can't predict what I want to listen to when I'm AWAY from my computer, because even I can't predict that!

(4) iPod Touch - 3gs chipset and Video Camera w/ mic...no GPS (next year), at 16/32/6

It annoys the hell out of me, when people are hoping the iPod touch will have 3G, its a ipod. Apple is not going to put 3G in a iPod or they would have already. 3G inst free, people would have to sign up for a contracted from a cell phone company to get it, and most people wont buy it or else they would of bought a iPhone.

It must be stressful having to come up with groundbreaking stuff all the time

(of course I guess they don't, hence SL)

So it's probably going to be camera and memory, maybe some apps.

I said 3gs chipset, meaning the processor and graphics chip, not 3G itself.

- Nano gets new colors, a camera, higher storage and same design.
What? No seriously... WHAT? They already come in grey, black, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red and pink. Do other colors even exist?
