It annoys the hell out of me, when people are hoping the iPod touch will have 3G, its a ipod. Apple is not going to put 3G in a iPod or they would have already. 3G inst free, people would have to sign up for a contracted from a cell phone company to get it, and most people wont buy it or else they would of bought a iPhone.

couldn't they put 3G in it but not force purchase through a carrier?

I know some people wouldn't pay for it but I'd love to have internet with me wherever I go without having to pay the AT&T cost + mandatory voice plan

and without paying $40 a month for 256 freaking MEGABYTES via Verizon's Mi-Fi. $30 a month for unlimited 3G and that's it. that's all I want and if I could only pay for data and not voice I'd get an iPhone this instant

That said, there will be no Beatles announcement. The invitation makes that pretty clear.

I know the quote used is a rolling stones song, but i still think it's a Beatles reference. I'm sure there is a reasonably well known interview from the early days that has survived the BBC archiving process in which one of the four from memory Ringo but maybe John in deadpan Liverpoddlian accents answers a question with that very line.

"I know it's only rock and roll, but I like it"

and before the Rolling Stones made it a song.
I great way for Apple to mess with peoples heads.

P.s. Just noticed the invite is We like not I like it.
sorry for the miss quote.

...not sure if this has been mentioned already, but it's definitely an ipod touch revamp: look at the cord coming out of the bottom of the ipod in the photo.

The headphone jack on the touch has always been on the bottom.

What? No seriously... WHAT? They already come in grey, black, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red and pink. Do other colors even exist?

I think so... I don't know about yours but my computer monitor can handle millions of colors...;)

DUDE!!!!! How sweet would it be if Apple let you go to one of those color wheel things where you choose the color and brightness of the color and you can choose ANY COLOR POSSIBLE for your iPod.

I am also hoping for a different colored iPod touch... Black is getting old

I wonder if an iMac upgrade might be tagged on the back of this iPod event.

There's talk of iMac updates soon. It would be nice if they made the hard drives swappable from the exterior sides of the cabinet. And if they can fit a second hard drive in. I doubt they'll do any of that.

It would be good to see bigger displays as well.

I doubt that they will release any updates to the computer lineup at the media event. I guess you never really know with Apple.

I seriously doubt it, unless the hardware deals directly with media in some way. We got the unibodies in October last year, so I'm guessing if there is some kind of update it'll come after this. (There was the iPod only event last year too about this time.)

Hope the iPod Touch gets an OLED screen...if not, I may check out the Zune HD (OLED + HD Radio).

Yes, I hope Apple comes out with a nano in every single color known to man and some that do not even exsist.

I thought the hard drives in the MacBook Air were the same size as the iPod Classic? Surely the next logical upgrade for the Classic would be to put the 128gb SSD from the MacBook Air in it... Perhaps this would push the price up too much? Would an SSD fit in the iPod Touch?

I'm hoping there is some sort of upgrade to Apple TV as well, putting my movies at the top of the menu instead of the iTunes store would be a start...

I would be surprised to see the rumored tablet at this event, unless it turns out to be this over sized iPod thing... NOT the revolutionary tablet we want.

I'm with the people who like Phil... He's a nice guy and doesn't seem to want to control my life like Steve does... They're the good cop, bad cop of Apple!

Bring back Apple Computers (we should start a petition!)

Processor bump has been known to happen as late as October but that would be just a front page release a couple of weeks after event so no redesign. If a redesign of that order is coming then it would be new year use xmas to clear the inventory.

I don't think 3g in a iPod Touch will ever happen. On another note I completely agree with you on one thing though. If I could buy an iPhone with only a data plan and no voice plan I would! but I don't talk on a phone enough to justify 40 dollars a month for the voice plan ( that much money last me 3-4 months with a pay as you go phone ) but I would not mind paying $30 a month for unlimited 3g data.

Here's my latest "three-day wild guess" on what we'll see at the 9 September 2009 media event:

1) iTunes 9.0 with new version of QuickTime, which will add Blu-ray hardware support, connection to social networks and the new "Cocktail" digital album liner note feature. You will see a hardware upgrade available for Mac Pros to replace the DVD burner with a BD-RE burner, and from October 2009 on MacBook Pros and iMacs will offer optionally at least a BD-ROM/DVD burner drive, if not a BD-RE drive.

2) The new 5G iPod nano, now with a larger 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio screen and a slightly smaller click wheel to accommodate the screen. It will also accommodate a 3.2 megapixel still camera. Storage capacity will probably stay at 8 and 16 GB, unless Apple got supplies of higher-capacity flash memory for up to 32 GB of storage. It will support the new "Cocktail" digital album liner note format.

3) The new 7G iPod classic, now with a larger 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio screen (with smaller click wheel to accommodate larger screen). Storage capacity will at least be 120 GB single-platter hard drive, though it's possible it may sport a 160 GB single platter hard drive or even 128 GB of flash memory (if Apple can get 128 GB flash memory modules for a reasonable price). The menu interface will now be like that of the 4G/5G nano. It will support the "Cocktail" digital album liner note format.

4) New 3G iPod touch, essentially iPhone 3Gs minus the cellphone functionality. Storage capacities will be 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB, and I wouldn't be surprised if Apple will announce the 3G iPod touch now has an OLED screen. It will support the "Cocktail" digital album liner note format.

5) The Beatles will FINALLY be available from the iTunes Store with the new remastered albums. Several of the album downloads will now include "Cocktail" digital album format liner notes.

Same here, I only use my current Sprint cell phone about ten minutes a month on a peak month for voice calls. On the other hand I would be the first person in line if the iPhone was offered with a data plan only no voice.

Predictions:

(1) iTunes 9 - 64 bit / social features
(2) Quicktime X released to all iTunes users (ie. Intel, PPC, and Windows)
(3) Cocktail - possibly
(4) iPod Touch - 3gs chipset and Video Camera w/ mic...no GPS (next year), at 16/32/64 gig capacities
(5) iPod Nano - Larger screen w/ Video Camera, 16/32 gig capacities
(6) iPod Classic - Same design, possible Camera as well, 120 gig unless a 160 is available
(7) Apple TV 3.0 + new Hardware

No Beatles. No Tablet.

This would require Apple porting Cocoa to Windows and the return of Yellow Box.

I don't see it. I see a QuickTime Update on Windows and iTunes for the latest compatibility of all portable products, but otherwise, Cocoa version only on 10.6+.

Why would this not start a 9am on 9/9/09? Marketing people.....

again I doubt Apple purposely set it for 9/9/09 or will acknowledge it. the iPhone OS 3.0 event was on St. Patrick's Day and no one from Apple acknowledged it. only one developer said "Happy St. Patrick's Day" and walked off. but Scott? nothing
