Sigh.

No. 3G. Chipset. In. The. iPod. Touch. Ever.

My predictions:
Shuffle: Unchanged.
Nano: Same colors, new camera, and a capacity bump. Same price. (16GB $149 / 32GB $249)
Touch: A new camera - possibly video as well, entry model price drop, and a capacity bump. (16/32/64 starting at $199)
Classic: A new camera, same capacity, and a price drop to $199. 120GB.

I also expect something Beatles-ey.

And iTunes 9.

And some sort of adjustment to the AppleTV.

couldn't they put 3G in it but not force purchase through a carrier?

I know some people wouldn't pay for it but I'd love to have internet with me wherever I go without having to pay the AT&T cost + mandatory voice plan

and without paying $40 a month for 256 freaking MEGABYTES via Verizon's Mi-Fi. $30 a month for unlimited 3G and that's it. that's all I want and if I could only pay for data and not voice I'd get an iPhone this instant

No, they can't. They have an exclusive contract with AT&T. You can't just "put in 3G"...you would be putting in a cellular GSM (or CDMA I guess, but's that's another discussion) chipset, and therefore you would not have an iPod Touch anymore, you would have an iPhone. What you are wishing for is an iPhone that is unlocked or pay as you go, and until Apple's contract with AT&T expires, that is not going to happen.

Even better: Shuffle: Reverting back to the previous generation that wasn't an abomination.

i dont cae about facebook in iTunes....honetly iTunes is better without it...

Airport Express +ipod Touch + facebook app = best combo

id like a new interface in itunes

looking forward to iTouch 3rd gen though!

My Guesses:

iPod Nano: Camera, 16,32 ($150/$200)
iPod Touch: Camera, No GPS,3GS Chipset 32/64 ($299/$399)
iPod Classic: DOA The reason will be that the iPod Touch is coming close in terms of storage.

iTunes Social Integration, 64 Bit

BEATLES!

AppleTV will have some sort of upgrade. (IDK what.)

SJ will be there.

No Tablet till next event.

also a 16GB touch for $229

I'm hoping for something better. 2 microphones (if ones at the top put the other one at the bottom for Ocarina users), definitely a new back

a camera with a mic and better processor almost makes this a pointless upgrade. I was talking to my friend about how great it's going to be and he simply said "so it'll be able to take pictures now, wow amazing"

You heard it here first...

This is my prediction:

Cocktail will be more than digital liner notes -- it will be interactive artwork. The Beatles catalog is perfect to show the potential of this format, as their albums (Sgt. Pepper's, The White Album, Magical Mystery Tour, etc...) all feature extensive artwork, posters, and extras that could be adapted to Cocktail. Imagine (sorry, John!) the possibilities - perhaps the album and the movie Yellow Submarine will be bundled together on the iTunes store...

Those of us who had LPs miss the album format. I expect (or hope) the iPod Touch will become SQUARE. Album covers will make the transition nicely, fading away at times to show a virtual, glistening, spinning record which at times will have virtual clickwheel controls superimposed over it.

Another benefit of the square format is that it will allow a 16:9 "monitor" area to exist above a virtual keyboard. I expect the first model to be about the size of a CD jewel case (not exactly square, more like 5.5" x 4.75"). This will be Apple's entry into the netbook market. It will run the same OS as the iPhone, but the larger screen will make web browsing and word processing much more comfortable. And it will fit in the pocket of a suit jacket without bulging, something no netbook can presently do.

Expect a subsidized model available with an AT&T contract. (My preference: give me a subsidized price when I buy the entire Beatles catalog -- hopefully Sir Paul has bought it back from the Michael Jackson estate by now...)

That will be all the tablet we'll see for now. If it's wildly successful, expect a 10" model by next year (yes, 12" would be great, but not as practical) that will not only bring back our love affair with the album format, but also will run a full version of OS X.

You may say I'm a dreamer,
but I'm not the only one...

I never really cared about the digital album booklets that you get.

I can't even put them on my iPod

I have 4 and don't really see the point in getting them. just a nice bonus for buying the entire album?

Besides cameras on the iPods what more can they come up with? Don't get me wrong, I love all the music related stuff, I want it all... but I like when they mix up the events with all different kinds of stuff.

Maybe I'm just a fanboy, but I'm not nearly as excited for the iPod's as I am for the possibility of seeing Steve Jobs back, introducing the new stuff.

Oh how I miss you Reality Distortion Field.

I agree. But what if you bought the album "A Hard Day's Night" bundled with movie "A Hard Day's Night", purchased from and downloaded directly to your iPod Touch?

And then listened to/watched it between checking email/working on a report!

OLED
different backing
bigger case for a bigger battery
compass in the touch

I agree there's not much more they can do. after that all you have is Radio and all these little mini add on features that'll make the iPod bloated. however right now they can go beyond the simple camera and mic

Just give me 64bit iTunes and I'll be happy.
To hell with social networking, that **** is giving me a headache!

OLED would be awesome! From what I've hard about the Zune HD, it's extremely crisp and clear.

Basically I want everything the Zune HD has in the iPod touch, with the iPod UI and apps. OLED, HD video out, widescreen resolution, and all of that in addition to a video camera, GPS and larger capacities.

One can dream.

Revolution 9.... number nine, number nine, number nine.....

The Beatles!

Maybe the iPod event will last an hour before they go for the One More Thing with the Beatles.

That'd be cool, if Steve got up there and went "Today's the 9th minute of the 9th hour of the 9th day in the 9th month of the 9th year of this decade. What better time than to introduce Revolution 9 and the entire Beatles collection on iTunes."

GEt the FREE FileAid to read liner notes on your Touch loaded with FREE DiskAid. :)

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure why so many people insist/hope/want (whatever) Steve Jobs to come back at one of these events.

I'll admit here, that I did not take the time to read all 13 pages. I made it through a few, and that was enough for me.

I would love SJ back and involved as much as anyone else. For whatever his downfalls may be, I completely respect what he's done and the products that he is responsible for. With that said, look at the truth. The guy has to retire sometime. How long has the talk about 'what will Apple be like' without SJ argument/discussion been going on? Well, look at it now. He took a hiatus, and the stock is now at nearly $170 without him being the visible front of the company. Even if he's back and has assumed the same role he was working before his break, wouldn't it make since to take him out of the public vision right now despite what his future plans may or may not be?

Personally, I wouldn't mind it if SJ is done with his events. The company has to move on at some point. It seems like it's already on a good roll and I'd like to see that stick as we go forward. Hell, he could actively be doing more (doubtful) now than he was before as long as his visibility is down and it looks like the company is performing without him I'd be happy. At some point we have to get past this 'SJ = Apple" idea... even if it has been true in the past.

Just not sure what some people are thinking.
