Good thing you weren't in the Apple meetings back when they introduced the iPod...."Hey guys, this thing is worthless. Let's put a CD player in it."

I hope you enjoy the 90s.

Or when they introduced the mouse, or switched to USB, or removed the floppy...

Please please please fix the homesharing issue. We have 2 in the house, and they are not very 'wife-friendly'. When I tell her to just log out and back in, I get the 'eye'.

The "eye" is the exact reason I would never ask my wife to use an Android phone and why I am buying Apple products. There stuff still has issues, but for the most part it just works.

When my wife got her first smartphone she resisted getting one, telling me she loved her LG Shine. I said fine and bought an iPhone 3Gs for me. Once I started using mine, she wanted one too, so we got her an iPhone 3Gs as well.

She does not rave about the device, but does not complain either. I know its a success because she rarely ever asks me for help with it and she uses it all the time. Almost as big as a success as DVR was (she doubted we needed that until she used it).

I'm hoping Apple TV works out those quirks because it is almost there. However, in my house I am still the one who operates the Apple TV when it is needed. I am hoping to turn her lose on it soon -- keep the updates coming.

*NOTE* Worst "get the eye" bug with ATV2: Attempted to stream from iTunes and it just hung because iTunes on my wife's computer had a "could not sync XYZ to iPhone" dialog box open because some movie shot from her camera was in HD and did not sync that morning. I have not yet checked to see if they fixed that in an iTunes update by putting streaming in a background thread. She looked me at her look read "these gadgets never do what you think they are suppose to do!"

Your asking for a dvd drive in 2011?

You seriously need to learn on how to progress with times.

By the way a dvd drive will nto make it useful. The apps will.

@ HackerJL

I bought the apple tv because the media center I use to have was a constant issue for not being wife friendly.
I thought the apple TV was going to remedy that situation but it did not :(

I get the eye as well.

As long as software and movies are still sold on DVD's, they are not obsolete ;)

As much as you may hate this, DVD's aren't going anywhere just yet...

yeah look at the Macs....they don't have DVD drives, they have the much better......wait, nevermind.

but yes Apps will make this SO much better.

personally I think this is coming with iOS 5, hopefully with support for A4 devices. I still think it will allow iOS devices to act as a wireless controller+second screen for games/apps.

Doubtful. They will need time to get apps up and running so will do an announcement then release a beta dev sdk. Only after that will we start to see Apps on it.

If it did, you would probably complain that it did not have a blu-ray drive.

Your correct! ATV2 is what it is ... low cost, quiet, tiny streaming device. Wife was trilled when she could AirPlay youtube from her iPhone. Kid was trilled she could play old "Desperate Housewives" via Netflix. I was trilled to bore friends with with vacation slideshows via AirPlay on the iPad.

If DVDs are so out of date, then what are these silver orbs that Redbox spits out? If you're going to call it an Apple TV then at least cater to the largest media format running at that point in time.

Oh, you mean DIGITAL MEDIA?

Only took a few minutes to download, couldn't have been more than 100mb.
usually the updates are 300mb+. Maybe this is a test for the incremental updates Apple's bringing in iOS 5?

I get that annoying can't connect to library bug too, it's been the same for months. Seems to happen after the computer with iTunes home sharing enabled goes to sleep and wakes again. Perhaps iTunes 'forgets' to listen for activity on the home share port, but Bonjour keeps broadcasting the service as available.

Well, I didnt want to go there and get crucified...but it looks like that worry is irrelevant now.

At 15 negative votes and counting...youd think my post was joking about the holocaust, and my avatar was a box of kittens on the highway.

Wow, I didn't even notice the +/- thing on comments until reading this. I'll give you a plus for helping me notice it. :)

It would be nice to get rid of MLB.tv as well (though that maybe a UK wish only).
Nope, I'm from the UK and I don't want to see it go away. International subscriptions are there for a reason however I agree a setting to remove menu items should exist

Does the update give it a DVD drive and make it useful?

You should use the DVD drive on your computer and put your movies into a useful format. It is time to let go of the past...

Hehe...-26 rating for that one. I think you pissed off a few of the ATV kids :p

People forget that its a useless little black box if you live outside the states.

( I have you a +1 ;))

Ignoring the fact that it has plenty of uses and that a DVD drive would more then double the size....
So you would pay $99 for a DVD player?

Hopefully fixes for connecting with iPhone as a remote and the annoying "Netflix is Not Available" and having to back out and go right back in. Drive me CRAY CRAY!

the Netflix thing is annoying. Anybody download and apply the update yet? Any improvements noticeable?

They need to fix the dropped library connection issues. Also, they need to bring back folder organization to movies and TV shows.

This is the biggest pieces of crap I have ever owned. I bought a new BluRay player just so I could view Netflix without constant pauses. Thanks for the "updayes," Apple.

A menu removal option would be fine for me (and maybe a way of making my library movies appear under the movies tab)

I was hoping it would change the way 'my' tv shows were displayed. Under the main menu should be one listing for the show, then you go into it to see all the seasons. I don't want to go past 11 season of a tv show to get to a different show.

No luck ... time to enter into the feedback part of the website again.

Anyone know if it fixes the issue with MP4s with 6 channel audio having no sound or not playing? Afraid to upgrade in case...

I bit the bullet and installed this update. The videos that didn't work for me with the last "update" seem to be working now thankfully.

I can confirm that this update does not fix content which has been encoded PAL... it still stutters like a pro. lame.
