I'm looking forward to Google's official Maps app being released. I think it will be good to be able to have two sources as needed.

I can't believe Apple is surprised by this.

Maps deficiencies were VERY clear throughout the entire beta. I'm not sure why people expected the problems to magically fix themselves in the final release.

I've been using iOS Maps in iOS6 for about a month now and even in Beta it was completely useable. There are some oddities as have been found around the globe but so far in daily use it has taken me from Point A to B and that's all that matters, not that we can find some Easter Eggs.

Perhaps you're the anomaly.

"Apple Maps: You take your chances."

Love that!
"It's the greatest, the fastest, the bestest, the coolest... We've been working on this for the last 5 years. The fact that it takes you across open fields on roads that haven't existed in 25 years- that's not a flaw, it's a feature! It's MAGICAL! It's like a time machine in your pocket..."

I'll admit it, I laughed.

Just want to note that I haven't encountered any issues with Maps in my area yet and I use it fairly heavily. Lucky me, I guess!

TomTom allows you to make your own corrections to the maps which you can then share with the entire community, updating the map for everyone...

Maybe apple should look into this sort of format...?

Apple Cares?

Look Apple doesn't care, thy think they are right and done! With Steve gone Apple lacks of quality and creativity. They don't care anymore its all money! Since an Engineer of production is an Artist?

If they did.. we wouldn't be in the mess we are now.

Its one thing Apple making it clear before its released...... Its another Apple going into this anyway, and "without any experience" expect everything to be perfect...

Sorry Apple... only a nit-twit would release something too early, knowing *themselves*, and admitting it needs fixing, then scrambling to get it together.

Not ready for prime-time. Its not the first we've seen from any company.

could potentially be hazardous...considering every iphone/ipad user would have free reign to change the maps.

I use Navigon and it works just as well as a dedicated GPS unit, if not better. So, why do I need a dedicated GPS unit when my phone is on par? Its way more convenient too...

Your post reads like an excuse. If Apple releases a mapping app, that also supports navigation you'd expect it to perform far better than it does today. People didn't expect the poor quality product Apple released yesterday.

I'm feeling Apple Maps is not going to replace Navigon for a long time yet... also considering the maps are stored on the phone ( Navigon ).

Does no one else care/realize that you are complaining about the GPS not working properly on your PHONE... I realize that the "idea" is really cool. But why would anyone feel Apple is obligated to do it? It's not that I am defending apple. But the maps app isn't the only GPS on the market, and if you really spend that much time using your phone for GPS you should probably invest in a good stand alone GPS unit. Everyone on here is b*tching and complaining, but in the end you will still buy the phone, you will still love the phone, and when Apple is done, you will either like the maps app and use it, or you won't like it and use another.

I haven't had a chance to go through this whole thread yet so I'm sure this has already been said...but this is exactly why I decided to hold off purchasing for a couple of months.

C'mon Apple...scuff-gate (maybe) and now Maps BETA...and the damn thing hasn't even been officially released yet. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that at the very least one of the most hyped apps on this new phone would work as promised.

If it helps, I also live in the lower mainland and I use Maps extensively and haven't run into any issues thus far.

Isn't that the idea ?

Why does TomTom do this then?

With TomTom, it's their paid customers that are submitting the corrections. In the hypothetical case that Apple did this, you could have bored teenagers submitting false information for ****** and giggles.

It's really not JUST a phone anymore.
It's a computer, text editor, research assistant, navigation tool, camera and a lot more...
Yes, of course you can get many other products specifically suited for one purpose that may do that one job a lot better. But as someone else on this thread pointed out (sorry, I don't recall who), who wants to carry a dozen different devices that each do a single thing when you can use a single product that integrates many functions?
And yes, you can use other apps that will accomplish the navigation function perhaps far more effectively. But THIS ONE is supposed to be integrated into the OS, and you have to admit that it is a HUGE embarrassment to Apple that one of the signature features of their latest operating system is such a clunker.
