Maps isn't a small undertaking. It is a major effort and Apple is the newcomer where as others well established have a head start by many years. Whilst there will be errors I'm certain through this experience Apple will provide the right response to its customers. We just need a little patience.

Lets spread a thought for those apparently locked down to fix the issues that many have brought up in this forum. Our impatience is trigger all the way down the line and it affects a person or in this case a group. So for now go enjoy your iPhone 5's for those of you who have them maps will be sorted soon enough.

Maybe we should remember also that in making a mistake some greater discovery and effort can be made. #

What MAJOR city? Exactly which city? Your a liar. I'm in L.A. I've had the beta since June and the maps app works perfect here. Even speaks thru Bluetooth. This is just such an overblown baby wa was BS thread.

Deal people. The map app will get better. I'm soooo glad Google is getting the boot. Those who say they can't get home etc. ya sure.

99% percent of these whiners are BS'ing. I live AND work in the biggest media market in the world and I'd say I know at least 100+ iPhoners and few IF any life depend on a map app. Get real.

I'm happy Apple just kicked Google to the curb. Finally!!!!!!! I'm willing sacrifice some itty bitty info for independence from a corporate thief.

I'm quite sure this IS what Steve Jobs wanted. ߘΛ/QUOTE]

I live in Chicago, ya know one of the largest cities in the country? This app thinks lakeshore drive is.....in the lake?

Well good for you on that, but it looks like the vast majority of users are having major issues, to the point that Apple is doing.major damage control. and putting their development team on lockdown for complete failure.

Corporate thief? Google? How? Stock Android? Isn't anything like iOS.

Why would Apple put out such a pile of crap? That doesn't work? I have a feeling Google kicked Apple to the curb.

Steve would've wanted a Map application that works....

Apple have removed an effective app and replaced it with a far inferior one, then selling it to us a key feature for a £500+ device

Why should I wait and patient - Apple should not have released something so bad.

I'm guessing you are joking. You can notify them about areas that need newer aerial photos, right in the app itself. Let them take care of finding the areal photos.

Yes I was joking. But I've been reporting black and white and poor aerial photos since Beta 1. Months later, they are still there!

They bought their tickets, they knew what they were getting into. I say, let 'em crash.

way to go apple

I was scanning through parts of Ontario And the maps that they have are 6 to 10 years old and In one case over 20 years old and in black-and-white.
Sure Apple will fix this, but you have to wonder what were they thinking, I don't know what kind of deal Apple had with Google, but It seems like they had to get a map program out there real quick, I would have to say the parts of Ontario I was looking at is unacceptable, You can tell it was very old satellite imagery, I would say there's probably more to this maps story, but if the map team really thought that this version was good enough for release, then there is another problem.

I haven't had any problems with the new maps but it's great that Apple acknowledged a problem and locked down the team to fix it. Being a cloud based product, I guess it wouldn't require an OS update right?

It's not a problem is a disaster. Every major news company in the west is running with the story after only one day.
You are right in thinking that maps can be updated with an OS upgrade though.

It is entirely true though. I like the Apple design on maps better than Google, but the maps themselves are horrible living outside the US.

The more people use it the better it will be. They probably buy map data locally which is updated constantly and corrected as people notice these things.

Same as with Google maps when it came out.

Plus kudos to Google for being so quick and kind to submit their own app so we got the choice.

So far I find Maps to be an improvement over GM in a couple of areas: 1) MUCH faster rendering of the maps and 2) SIRI and email links directly to a GPS app. I have CoPilot and found it frustrating to use because I had to copy and past an address. Google Maps, while a great app, wasn't that useful on the road because I couldn't easily get an address into it and had to tab through the directions. Now I can just tell SIRI where I'm going and I'm straight into navigating. Perhaps my area in Los Angeles is just working better than other areas, but I'm excited about the path they're on.

Nokia 920 maps is gonna beast compare to this crapple product

isheep raggggggge.

LOL, you really think LA, one of the biggest cities in America is representative to the world? Are you stupid or blind. No **** the map is gonna be accurate, it L.A.

You must be jesting. Nokia has worse satellite imagery than Apple!
Nokia's maps are accurate though. It's the same data Garmin uses so it will make a good satnav.

Those of you that seem to think Apple can "fix" its Maps app in a matter of days or weeks are in for a rude surprise. It will take YEARS! During which time Google will be working just as hard to stay in the lead.

Apple needs to approve Google's Map app in the App Store AND allow iOS users to pick which app we want to be the default map app on our devices!

Mark

Tbh there is one solution.

Make a major acquisition of one or more mapping companies and their databases.

And that's only a half solution, if Apple really want to be in the Maps game then they need to play for 1st position, not 21st...

Buy a load of planes and cars, buy a load of new high definition cameras with some kind of 3D feature, stick the latter on the former, bam, send them on their merry way.

Put a god damn satellite into orbit if that's what it takes, they have 100 billion dollars and that number is only going to increase with the iPhone 5, for the love of god do something with it.

I know Apple has been anxious to distance themselves from Google a bit, but perhaps they should have given this one a little more thought. I'm sure the year that will exist between iOS 6 and iOS7 would have given them time to make the application much better than it's current state.

If Steve Jobs was still around this never would have happened. How come this app wasn't thoroughly tested? I tried to get directions to an address ten minutes from my house, was told they couldn't find it, yet the street is listed on the map itself!

If Steve still was arround, you would be driving wrong :)

I can't believe how crappy this maps app is. Not only are the satellite image often blurry, in even more place they don't even load properly for me .. huge lags, especially in fly-over mode. But well .. with a large portion of good will that can be attributed to bad data and overloading servers (which really shouldn't happen to Apple, they should know the demand).

What really pisses me off that the search is pretty much useless. I need the 100% notation to find a place. Even simple changes like abbreviating road to rd (or in german strassse to str) makes the whole thing fail. How can stuff like that not show up in the first round of tests? As much as I appreciate the polished finish of Apples software .. if the underlying basic stuff is not working, it is all worthless.

And all of that just to stick it to google .. that backfired pretty badly.

I can't stand this stupid Steve here Steve there balony any more. Just as a little memory refresher .. it was Steve himself who was the most upset about the whole Google/Android situation and most likely also him that is ultimately responsible for the warfare on Android/Samsung as well as trying to replace everything google in iOS (such as the maps app).

Are you serious? :( Sigh... I really need the Google Maps app to be approved asap...

I have no issues whatsoever with the new Apple Map App. I really like it actually. Why all the ranting and raving? What happened?

They find glitches in the application?

For the people that mentioned we should give Apple time, I find it ironic as one of the often cited pros of Apple is they don't release a half baked product and chide the competitors who do this.

Now that Apple is doing this, everyone seems to be jumping in to defense Apple? The key issue here is Apple is offering a product that is inferior to the previous version. Siri is different because it was first of its kind, and it wasn't a core feature.

One of the reasons I converted to Apple is because all the products show they pay attention to the tiniest details. It's just disappointing seeing this happen :(

Poor Team!

Some crazy guy took the decision to remove Google Map for various reasons and the team has to pull the impossible magic!

It is easy to offer apology and get the Google Map in place until they really find out how to get this done correctly.

Phone without proper Mapping solution will be considered more or less a desk phone and will NOT be considered as a Mobile Phone. I am regretting my upgrade to 6.0. I don't think the poor Apple team is responsible for some unrealistic crazy decisions.

I'm not buying that line. Steve was ready to get Google off of iOS as much as possible. You can be sure that he would have loved to have this app on iOS 5 if possible. Remember Steve didn't like admitting when he messed up, just look at the whole antenna issue on the iPhone 4. Instead of admitting a flaw he avoided it to an extent and said all phones did it. He did the same with multiple features on iPhone over the years. Steve has only been gone for a year and likely still played a very large role on everything with the iPhone 5. Maybe 5 years from now the "If Steve was here" line will work, but there is very little, if not nothing at all going on at Apple currently that Steve didn't play a part in. Apple was continually planning years down the road.

They should turn Maps into something like Wikipedia. Although it could get crazy, having users be able to add information for all to see would truly make Maps a part of the cloud, while improving it loads more than a team of six people could. But all the while, good luck to the Maps team, I'm confident they can get the job done well with time.
