It's obvious.

They are going to implement WinFS (whatever it is, heheh).

A Rhetorical Question

Smart. This had got viral marketing written all over it. Fill the position, and simultaneously start the hype early when this inevitably gets picked up by blogs and traditional media. Free advertising. More blatant than when they normally do it, but it'll work a treat.
Yeah. Don't they have someone they can get from within the company to work on this? Then, they could hire someone to replace that guy or gal.

Some thoughts.
It may be cloud computing, but I'll think that they'll present it differently than usual.
I can see Steve now.
"Before we released iPad many of you thought that it would be a touch enabled Mac, well now it is"
Clapping.
"But it doesn't stop there. Your iPhone is a fully powered Mac computer."
More clapping
"Your netbook is now a fully powered mac and your PC is now a Mac"
"$300 a year"
If this happened Mac OS market share would shoot through the roof, but Apple may stop making hardware.
It would use Apple's new data center.
Or it could just be an update to grand central dispatch to use some processor muscle from their data center.

Apple is going to form a new project team and this ad is to find the lead software engineer. They are going to team him or her with 99 of their most brilliant engineers and give them 1 year to figure out how to finally let us resize Mac OS X windows from all four sides and all four corners!

re: Revolutionary / Foundations / HTTP

Could be a new protocol implemented over HTTP (web workers protocol is an example of that).

Could be related to distributed computing.

Could be related to "cloud" storage and synchronization.

Could be something completely different :)

No one on staff?

What always surprises me about these job postings is that Apple doesn't already have on staff someone qualified to do what they are looking for? I mean, aren't they getting some of the best and brightest talent out there? Wouldn't stand to reason that someone who has already been there a number of years working on Mac OS wouldn't be the most qualified to the head of some division?

How about when I install something, it doesn't leave a .dmg thing on my desktop that I don't know if I need to delete or stick in the hard drive thing.

That would never happen. Like ever. Apple is a hardware company that makes software to sell their hardware. They will never be a software company. They only do software that will enhance the experience of their own hardware.

I think we are going to be seeing some cloud features in 10.7. Maybe it really will be 10.7 Clouded Leopard. Could be neat, one user account to seamlessly sync across multiple macs, etc.

$300 a year almost pure profit with no distribution costs. Sounds right up Apple's ally to me.

Only the last one would be 'truly amazing' to millions of Mac users.

Which means whatever it is, it will work with existing hardware and setups just wih an OSX upgrade. So no touch interface or mac~me purchases etc etc.

Let me get this straight, how do you get bored by an Operating System?

Simply just getting bored. I want some new features, something new thats interesting. :D

Maybe I just need iWork to come through the bloody post already.

flawless social networking integration + iChat/FaceTime consolidation + more user friendly for the younger and older users = Sex Predators Dream

We'll call it OSX Cougar

bahahahaha

Apparently apple are reusing the convention of adding adjectives to their previous products ie akin to leopard and Snow Leopard

Presenting:

OS X 10.7 Black Panther.
