Apple already has some of the highest margins in the industry. They should have done layoffs, restructuring, or executive compensation reductions rather than passing the costs on to the consumers. This is just a bare money grab. Shows that Apple is just as evil of a company as any other. Anyone who had delusions of them being responsible or conscientious: those were just delusions. And I say that as someone who owns basically every current gen piece of hardware they sell, except for the Mac Studio and Mac Pro. To say I prefer their products is an understatement... but this, this makes me so mad that I'm not going to buy any of their next gen stuff. The iPhone Ultra, M6 gen of Macs, Apple Watch Ultra 4, etc. can all burn in hell. I am withdrawing my financial support for a full generation to punish Apple.

I already have the current model everywhere I want them, but was thinking if they upgraded in the fall I would pick some up and hand down the "older" ones to the kids. Can't think of a single thing I would need a new ATV to do in order to justify $200.

Oh I didn’t say they will lower them, I said normalizing. This is likely the new normal, I’m not saying they will come down, I’m saying the drastic increases will stop.

Apple probably has the next 2 years locked but I wouldn’t be surprised to see base prices of totally new models (e.g. Macbook Ultra, iPhone Ultra) get bumped due to this.

I was considering buying an M5 Max MBP (maxed out) as a stopgap, I have an M4 Max MBP but really need a Studio for the work I’m doing so was waiting until the fall.

My configuration with edu discount, since I work in research, went up 39% overnight.

It’s pretty awesome, I need 512gb of unified memory to run a specific experiment that is very important to my research. I guess I need a 25 thousand dollar grant now which is pretty unlikely.

You are 100% right. TV plays to the lowest common factor. It's all garbage for idiots. Youtube allows you to find your community. A fan of a little book series, there are shows talking about it. Like a certain type of car, here's a channel just about that.

My youtube premium subscription is the only one that I pay blindly without problem.

A community about your favorite book series? How many time are you going to discuss a good book over and over via media content? Its just nothing more then keeping you engaged on the platform for hours and hours.

Unlike this forum where you find your info, have a discussion about it. You are litterly sitting behind your pc watching videos about a book that you like and watch other people discuss it.

Instead of living it you live through other people who hook you into their entrepreneurship.
If i feel like i need to be entertained i simply watch TV more often then not its so boring that i turn off the TV and go back to my studies or reading books because it does not add any perceived value beside some simple entertainment.

THAT is exactly what youtube is but on steroids. This website is way easier to switch off from then Youtube and socialmedia for a reason because its not equally designed to take full advantage of our weaknesses

Keep discussing that book serie over and over or talking about the same care over and over, sitting there watching other people enjoying their passions they monetized to people.

EDIT: Apple increased Refurbished device prices too...was looking at a refurbished M3 iPad Air and it now costs $589 base. It was $470 yesterday.

Debating if I should get 17 pros for me and my family. I was waiting for 18's, but with likely price hike and rumors indicating downgrades in some ways the 17 and/or 17 Pro make make more sense. I would be looking at 3 or 4 phones to refresh us all for this cycle.

I also see disgruntled posts above. In fairness to apple, I feel they have kept prices near constant for a very long time and this adjustment is long overdue. And, of course, products will continue to be available discounted from B&H, amazon, and others from time to time. Of course I don't like price increases, but with everything going up and a massive chip shortage, it isn't surprising. I do believe apple knows a large segment of customers are price conscious - hence the pricing and runaway success of the Neo - and apple will do its darnedest to not price itself out of the market. And apple did not raise prices on iPhones, but I believe Tim said it is likely or near certain that 18's/18 Pros will cost more.

Not at all. This will force the personal computing industry to start being smart and stop being greedy.

This is a great time for people to start learning again about what it takes to make hardware go farther. I'm typing this on a 11 year old Macbook Air running linux and it runs great. Cost me $100 total used plus another $40 for a new battery.

It's going to force companies to program to the specs. No more stupid bloated garbage 20gb software package because hardware is cheap. You want the biggest audience for your product, you make sure it runs smooth on light weight older hardware.

This has the potential to be the biggest benefit for the small indie developers, those who can quickly adapt, and those who know how to really do personal computing not the posers we have now.

That’s great that you’re using older hardware like that today but it will be useless if you want to run local AI agents. The hardware pricing is placing PERSONAL computing in future terms out of reach for many people. If/when hardware affordability slips out of reach, most users will likely be handcuffed to cloud based computing and inevitable subscription models. $$$$$

Oof. I just returned a MBP M5 Pro that cost me 3300 eur because I concluded I rather have a desktop M5 Max or Ultra at some point.

That same machine now costs 4100+ eur.

Still, my reasoning was sound and I don’t regret the action but I do have to admit I am quite surprised.

Well.. I’ll have to see what to do when new Mac Studios arrive. But I’ll surely evaluate my use case more thoroughly due to this.

Apple today dramatically increased device prices across multiple product lines.

After temporarily taking it down earlier today, Apple's online store is back up with a series of product price increases. The changes are as follows:

• HomePod mini: $129, up from $99 (+$30)
• HomePod: $349, up from $299 (+$50)
• Apple TV: $199, up from $129 (+$70)
• iPad: $449, up from $349 (+$100)
• iPad mini: $599, up from $499 (+$100)
• iPad Air: $749, up from $599 (+$150)
• iPad Pro: $1,199, up from $999 (+$200)
• MacBook Neo: $699, up from $599 (+$100)
• MacBook Air: $1,299, up from $1,099 (+$200)
• MacBook Pro: $1,999 up from $1,699 (+$300)
• iMac: $1,499, up from $1,299 (+$200)
• Mac mini (M4 Pro): $1,599, up from $1,399 (+$200)
• Mac Studio (M4 Max): $2,499, up from $1,999 (+$500)
• Mac Studio (M3 Ultra): $5,299, up from $3,999 (+$1,300)

The average price increase is $246.67. The iPhone, AirPods, Studio Display, and accessories such as the Apple Pencil are seemingly the only unaffected product lines.

It is also of note that the 256GB Mac mini is now available again, but for $799. This is a $200 increase over when it was available before temporarily disappearing from the lineup earlier this year.

Last week, Apple announced that it was preparing to raise prices across its product lineup, with CEO Tim Cook confirming that that the move was inevitable. Cook made the announcement in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, citing the soaring cost of memory and storage chips. "Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable," he said. "We're doing our best to mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we've been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable." Cook described the scale of the memory shortage as a "hundred-year flood," adding, "I've never seen anything like it in any area in over 40 years."

Apple has historically absorbed component cost swings rather than passing them on to customers, so this marks a notable shift in approach.

699.00 not 799.00. Just double-checked as it was a planned purchase and yes, memory went up 200 plus for on-board storage above 256gb.

I haven't seen this since the end of the 80s or early-90s when Sims went nuts on price and caused the same price hike from Apple (and others).
