Apple today dramatically increased device prices across multiple product lines.

After temporarily taking it down earlier today, Apple's online store is back up with a series of product price increases. The changes are as follows:

• HomePod mini: $129, up from $99 (+$30)
• HomePod: $349, up from $299 (+$50)
• Apple TV: $199, up from $129 (+$70)
• iPad: $449, up from $349 (+$100)
• iPad mini: $599, up from $499 (+$100)
• iPad Air: $749, up from $599 (+$150)
• iPad Pro: $1,199, up from $999 (+$200)
• MacBook Neo: $699, up from $599 (+$100)
• MacBook Air: $1,299, up from $1,099 (+$200)
• MacBook Pro: $1,999 up from $1,699 (+$300)
• iMac: $1,499, up from $1,299 (+$200)
• Mac mini (M4 Pro): $1,599, up from $1,399 (+$200)
• Mac Studio (M4 Max): $2,499, up from $1,999 (+$500)
• Mac Studio (M3 Ultra): $5,299, up from $3,999 (+$1,300)
• Vision Pro: $3,699, up from $3,499 (+$200)

The average price increase is $246.67. The iPhone, AirPods, Studio Display, and accessories such as the Apple Pencil are seemingly the only unaffected product lines.

It is also of note that the 256GB Mac mini is now available again, but for $799. This is a $200 increase over when it was available before temporarily disappearing from the lineup earlier this year.

Last week, Apple announced that it was preparing to raise prices across its product lineup, with CEO Tim Cook confirming that that the move was inevitable. Cook made the announcement in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, citing the soaring cost of memory and storage chips. "Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable," he said. "We're doing our best to mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we've been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable." Cook described the scale of the memory shortage as a "hundred-year flood," adding, "I've never seen anything like it in any area in over 40 years."

Apple has historically absorbed component cost swings rather than passing them on to customers, so this marks a notable shift in approach.

Amazing. I guess they are not going to allow a dent in their margins. I’m sticking with my whole set up and will not put another $ into this greedy company until product prices come down. IF they come back down.

I upgraded my four year-old phone last week just in case. Tim had never said anything like that before so I figured something was going to happen pretty soon. My iPad arrives today. Looks like I saved $200 on that.

It's like a dealer giving you a free trial. They are getting us addicted and are now starting to charge crazy prices once we rely on it.

I guess that settles it then. I was going to wait for the new MacBook Pro to come out as I don't need it right now, but Amazon and John Lewis still have it as £2439 and is £2999 on apple which is insane.
Cant justify spending that on a base spec 16" so think I'll purchase now before they bump their prices

Apple's Next Big Thing is "Siri AI"... but if you need a newer Mac to take advantage of it and now won't get one due to price increase... it's that just self sabotage? All of a sudden macOS 27 being a maintenance release makes more sense.

I think this price increase may just come back and haunt Apple for a while. Those are huge increases, the size of which a lot of existing Apple customers will hold off on purchases, and potential new customers will hold off as well.

I am glad I did my 'refresh' a year ago; I can weather these absurd increases. What concerns me are these devices will likely never drop back to a reasonable price. At best, they will drop back half of the increase we see.

Any advancements and improvements that Ternus makes, will be over-shadowed by this price increase.

Wow, those are some hefty increases. I guess I shouldn't be surprised - I checked Prime Day to see if there were any good deals on a 4 TB NVME SSD and prices have skyrocketed since last time I checked.

No kidding. A Samsung 1tb SSD I got back in 2023 for around 89 - same specs - is now over 189 (from a retail price of over 250)

I appreciate your optimism, but I think this has an equal chance of largely eradicating personal computing eventually and turning devices into mere appliances that contact the cloud and require subscriptions for everything.

I hate to side with your opinion on this one, but I do. I want to be optimistic but seeing how tech has been evolving, it seems the one common thread has been the removal of control of our own devices, and more cloud based requirements. I have mostly avoided cloud reliance, and aim to stay that way. Right now, I do have a little bit of storage from iCloud due to the Apple One subscription I have, but I avoid using it as much as I can so I don’t become dependent on it. Apple has been better about these things so far, but as with any publicly traded company, the en********ation is still happening to them and I don’t expect them to hold out forever (see Ad’s being added to maps now as an example). I’d love for John Ternus to stop this direction, but I’ll be surprised if he does because of the public company implications.

That's more than increases, that's just price gouging. M4 is 25% increase and M3U is 33% increase.

This burns me as Apple never released an M4 Ultra and probably won’t for the M5, leaving not much recourse for those wanting to upgrade from the M1 Ultra. Now it’s ridiculous.
