Apple already has some of the highest margins in the industry. They should have done layoffs, restructuring, or executive compensation reductions rather than passing the costs on to the consumers. This is just a bare money grab. Shows that Apple is just as evil of a company as any other. Anyone who had delusions of them being responsible or conscientious: those were just delusions. And I say that as someone who owns basically every current gen piece of hardware they sell, except for the Mac Studio and Mac Pro. To say I prefer their products is an understatement... but this, this makes me so mad that I'm not going to buy any of their next gen stuff. The iPhone Ultra, M6 gen of Macs, Apple Watch Ultra 4, etc. can all burn in hell. I am withdrawing my financial support for a full generation to punish Apple.

You say Apple is an evil company, but here you are asking them to fire employees and rob them of their livelihoods to save $30 on a HomePod mini. Let’s all touch grass. You don’t have to buy Apple products.

699.00 not 799.00. Just double-checked as it was a planned purchase and yes, memory went up 200 plus for on-board storage above 256gb.

I haven't seen this since the end of the 80s or early-90s when Sims went nuts on price and caused the same price hike from Apple (and others).

This is the way. We should all be doing this. Apple’s greed won’t stop until customers stop rewarding it. Every skipped upgrade is a vote. Every canceled purchase is a message. Hit their revenue hard enough, and they’ll finally start listening.

I was on the fence about buying an M5 MacBook Pro because I was waiting for the M6 Ultra - but the price will just be ridiculous, and first gen advances tend to have issues. Anyhow, just grabbed an M5 Pro Max on the John Lewis UK website for £700 less than the Apple site. If anyone else is on the fence, that's where to go.

EDIT: Apple increased Refurbished device prices too...was looking at a refurbished M3 iPad Air and it now costs $589 base. It was $470 yesterday.

Refurbished devices rising is an insanity. Pure profit & penny pinching, totally a Tim thing.

I think people will rethink buying as if they need it they will still buy it but the days of buying new just to have new will slow way down just my opinion.

This will certainly happen. I used to buy an iPhone every September until the iPhone 15 released, when personal circumstances prevented me from doing so. Once I got over the disappointment, I realized my 14 Pro was still adequate for everything I did, and come the iphone 16 release when my situation had greatly improved, I purposefully decided against upgrading. Same with the 17. Still quite happy with my 14 Pro and plan to upgrade the battery to keep it going as long as possible.

Others, I'm sure will come to this realization about other Mac products. It really just takes skipping one model to open the eyes to Need vs Want.

I’ve just joined the thread so apologies if someone’s already mentioned this but Apple has also increased the prices at their refurbished store. This feels more like corporate greed than anything else. Why on earth would they raise prices on refurbished devices? It’s not like you’re going to buy the RAM for them now. By that logic, the trade-in value should be increased but that doesn’t seem to be happening. This is a bit disappointing and doesn’t play well with their statement.

Upgrading the MacBook Pro M5 Max from 48GB RAM to 128GB RAM now costs £2,000 - I was about to rant about how outrageous that is, but then I looked at uk.pcpartpicker.com and, while Apple is certainly charging an Apple Tax, it wasn't as large as I thought it would be.

This isn't apples to apples given the Mac's soldered RAM uses custom integration with the CPU, is shared with the GPU and has significantly greater bandwidth than traditional DDR5 RAM (albeit with slightly lower latency), and with the Mac the £2,000 is to upgrade from 48GB to 128GB as opposed to the cost of buying 128GB RAM. With that said 128GB of Patriot Venom 6000MHz CL30 DDR5 will cost £1600, or the equivalent Corsair Vengeance RAM will cost £2,000.

Patriot is not exactly a premium brand, and it's only during the RAM crisis that Apple's upgrade costs have seemed reasonable, so I'm surprised they haven't increased their RAM upgrade costs even higher. But I'm still massively relieved that I upgraded my computer last month rather than waiting for the M5 version of the Mac Studio.

Agreed. I honestly find it infuriating they are dropping the 1st gen 4k ATV model.

I don't care how old it is. If it's been running tvOS 26 just fine, we should be getting tvOS 27, especially given the market conditions and lack of any other updates for ATVs. The "new" ones are nearly 4 years old!

The average price increase is $246.67. The iPhone, AirPods, Studio Display, and accessories such as the Apple Pencil are seemingly the only unaffected product lines.

It is also of note that the 256GB Mac mini is now available again, but for $799. This is a $200 increase over when it was available before temporarily disappearing from the lineup earlier this year.

Last week, Apple announced that it was preparing to raise prices across its product lineup, with CEO Tim Cook confirming that that the move was inevitable. Cook made the announcement in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, citing the soaring cost of memory and storage chips. "Unfortunately, price increases are unavoidable," he said. "We're doing our best to mitigate the huge increases that are being passed to us, and we've been trying to shield our customers from the increases, but the situation has become unsustainable." Apple has historically absorbed component cost swings rather than passing them on to customers, so this marks a notable shift in approach.

no matter what i will not defend an Apple TV and bunch of homepods going up in price, especially that much
