This is crazy. Have the MBP 16 M5 Pro 64 / 4 TB blk nano in the apple store cart, Price now changed from 5.179,00 to 6.314,00 Euros. Thats a 22% increase.

Check out Micrcenter, they still haven't updated their prices yet. I drove over and picked up 2 MBP m5 Pros

Why? This issue is affecting every manufacturer. If anything, this is going to make it way harder for smaller companies and startups without Apple or Google’s vast resources to release devices. If anything, this makes it more likely the Google and Apple ecosystems aren’t disrupted.

Still cheaper to get PCs than Mac’s. This will probably be the end for me with Mac’s since I can still build a good PC even with a 5090 that is cheaper to the Mac Studio I was hoping for and will still perform better.

I think this kills any chance of a 12GB MacBook Neo anytime soon. If they update it to the A19 they will use a modified version with 8GB.

Back in 2015 a fully specced 15" MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD cost me 364,800 Yen.

Last week a fully specced out 16" MacBook Pro with 128GB RAM and 8TB SSD would have cost 1,183,800 Yen. More than a million Yen... That is already a pretty insane price that hardly anyone in Japan can afford currently. I asked. The Apple Store is not selling any of those currently...

Yet today, that very same 16" MacBook Pro with 128GB RAM and 8TB SSD will cost 1,776,800 Yen. Nearly 1.8 million Yen! Seriously that's a 50% (!) price hike from one day to the next. Double yikes!

Who can afford these models?
And now Apple wants to introduce a MacBook Ultra line for even more money?
Who seriously will be able to afford these?
So few people that Apple will not make any profit on those higher end machines. They will all go the way of the Mac Pro...

I think Apple just killed the Mac!

impossible A19 Pro chip is on unified memory 12GB, the ram size is fixed.

AI is not worth it.

AI has its uses. And I do not blame AI directly. I blame these businesses and the world for going crazy for it like candy. Microsoft has more hardware than they have the ability to power them on. Why?! Stop shoving copilot in every corner of the operating system. Why did notepad need copilot? Why did a literal shoe company stock increase drastically with even the mention of AI? AI isn’t directly the problem, every business is.

Insane price increases. Very glad I bought when I did (three weeks ago). And somewhat fortunate—I had not expected the price increases to hit until the fall, and had not expected them to be this large, but made the move when I did because of deciding to accelerate some AI-related work.

TV is slop entertainment, Youtube is slop entertainment by enterperneurs that hook you in cleverly with the help of all the youtube tools specifically designed so that you feel happy with your "community" of "likeminded" aka delibertly fabricated dopemine hits, hooks and a false sense of belonging.

You do realise that on youtube YOU are the product right? Its made to make money of you, by giving you cheaply crafted rinse and repeat content.

I get what you’re saying about algorithms and being sucked in but YouTube - for me - is not like that. I follow a dozen channels and every now and then I catch up with them. When I’m done watching, I’m done watching.

The platforms that really sucked me in were FB and Instagram. They are doom scrolling pieces of horror. I ended my accounts on those. Truly horrible.

I have never had that feeling about YouTube. It’s a shame YouTube belongs to Google but there is some seriously good content on YouTube.

How much is a RTX 5090 going for right now? I see roughly five grand USD on average.

I did a comparison this morning and spec for spec along all aluminum construction it can be 100.00 cheaper the competition went up price out an HP Ultra,Dell XPS or a Surface they also have sticker shock.

Held out longer than most companies? Ok, maybe, cool.
But did you forget that Apple was constantly overcharging RAM and storage upgrades FOR YEARS?
They're asking $200 for 8GB of RAM for what? More than 10 years now? Even though 8GB of RAM was dirt cheap before AI slop

Apple has WAY bigger margins than other companies, they could have held out even longer if they wanted to, but they don't because of stocks holders.

I think Tim Cook just took this bullet for John Ternus which might be why it happened now. Imagine this being done when John becomes CEO the backlash would be crazy.
