Hopefully my M1 Air can last me through med school...
I have 3 heavy-MacBook-users in my house. I realize I'm in the minority here, but I panic-bought a spare M5 Air just now for $935. I don't want for someone to be down and have to drop $1300++ when a family member inevitably spills coffee on theirs.

EDIT: it’s basically the price of AppleCare+ for 3 MacBooks, and will always have at least some residual value.

In general because I see a lot of people talking about the AI bubble, the AI bubble is specifically about the stock market and how much AI is worth now and the bubble in worth that's about to burst like the internet bubble in the early 2000's, nobody actually means that AI as a whole is going away or is going to get smaller. AI is here to stay (again like the internet).

A lot of of us would agree with that on the whole, but we are not even being given a choice.

It’s infuriating
Because you're thinking about dumb photos and videos when you think of AI. But that's not what AI for the majority is used for or why it's important.

It all suggests that Apple haven’t created the total control of their hardware they usually suggest. Surely a big part of developing Apple Silicon should have been to stay separate from the market fluctuations affecting other manufacturers. Someone will no doubt explain why Apple are not immune but I would argue that with their size and dominance they should be.

Just pulled the trigger on M5 MBA (16/512) base model, $949 Amazon Prime. I have a base M2 MBA that is about 4 y.o. that I was planning on replacing next year.....but, these price increases nudged me over to do it earlier. I will give the M2 to my son's live-in girlfriend who is working and taking classes at a local college. My son is a school teacher, and they are on a tight budget....so, hopefully the M2 will last a couple more years for her.

It did take them a long long time to actually increase prices while everything else had increased quite awhile ago, so if what they said is to be believed, they probably burned through their inventory without raising prices. At least how I'm looking at it.

Oh man, they're still fooling around with pricing on their website. Look at this fun happening right now in the Refurbished store lol... Looks like they increased prices on iPads in there but left the original MSRP and so there is no tag under each showing how many dollars you're saving by buying refurbished...

Also, refurbished USB-C Apple Pencil listing doing something strange too..

So are scalpers going to jump on existing stock at smaller retailers?

Buy your dream machine now, and unload it for more than you paid?

Although this is probably temporary, it certainly will last many months.

Eagerly waiting for people to post that list of tech hardware manufacturers who have not raised prices in the past few years.

Just in case you're holding your breath with John Lewis.... you get an order acknowledgement immediately and then a confirmation 30 minutes later. Mine came through fine, so they must be pulling from their own inventory.
I've ordered with JL before (because of the 2 year warranty) but never really noticed the acknowledgment and confirmation emails.

But just got these two through. Thanks 👍

Imagine paying $459 for an old iPad JellyMini 6.

It's not really about inflation. It's about the current situation on the memory market. The never ending game between supply and demand.
Right. Good to remember this. It's a scarcity thing, and is temporary.

Like a lot of crazy inflationary things we saw during covid. But with that it was very uncertain. This you can gauge better I would think (It not being a microbe LOL )
