Anything can make someone angry. Blue sky? I'm angry, I wanted rain. Free food? I'm angry, it's not tasty enough. New MacBook Pro? I'm angry, it doesn't have a full size mechanical keyboard with RGB backlighting.

Anger over something usually tells a lot more about the person than the issue.
Maybe they’re happy being angry.

I enjoy photography as a hobby. When editing pictures, I'm particular with the colors (white balance, local color adjustments, toning, etc.) and try to get the exact look I'm going for. Won't the True Tone display mess with this? What looks good in a dimly lit room with an incandescent bulb might look different the next morning when the sun is streaming in through the window. Any other creatives see how this could be an issue or not? I don't have an iPad that has TT so I don’t really know. Just my initial impression.

Yes, disable it. True tone is the anthesis of a color managed workflow.

This was the part to me that had me *slow clapping*.

13", Quad Core with HT, 16GB RAM and 512GB of storage is $2,199.
(Based on the base quad core i5 8259U (Info))
That's actually a decent price.

More Details:
  • Bigger Batteries!
15": 83.6 Wh vs. 76 Wh in previous model
13": 58.0 Wh vs. 49.2 Wh in previous model (13" non-TB stays at 54.5 Wh)
  • Bluetooth 5.0 is also new
  • Three microphones instead of two

But same run-time???

I don't see how a max q 1060 isn't possible like the razer blade.

It is possible, but Apple appears to have chosen AMD as its life-partner.

It is proof that they listen and are inclined to give people what they want.

I don't think you followed the conversation. 32GB is not available on the 13" and people are upset.

You might as well ask for there to be 32GB of RAM on your phone. I'm going to venture that anyone who is demanding 32GB on their 13" laptop has absolutely no clue about their computing needs, or about what this would imply for heating issues and battery life.

I'm excited though, next step is getting these 15" MBPs with LPDDR4 and an NVIDIA GPU and I'm set to upgrade my 2014 model.

Price is still way too high for the specs.

$1,800 base price for a laptop with an i5 and integrated graphics is just ridiculous.

Hi everyone, this may have been answered already, but I have a 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and I did take advantage of the repair program for the keyboard, not sure if this is the right place to ask this or it may have already been addressed, but do you think they used the new gen. 3 keyboards for the repair program?

I took my 2016 MB for battery repair just last week, and they replaced the battery + keyboard with the 2017 version. It types just fine, but it is rather noisy.

Thank god! Does that mean you’ll no longer be posting here?

I think most of us here knew that the new Macbook Pro 2018 will be by far the best upgrade in years because of the step into the 6 core region.
However, what I have not seen coming is the fact that the new Blackmagic eGPU is tightly knitted and fully integrated, software supported and sold by Apple only - That is stunning and that combo represents a true Game Changer for me.

I didn't think my trusted 5.1 would get so much fire from the laptop corner...

Outstanding Apple, the Blackmagic eGPU surprise was the best so far for a long time! Well done. The combo is the ticket..

Not as bad as you might think. Apple uses high-end NVMe SSDs, not SATA; a comparable 2 TB 960 Pro retails for around the same price.

32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 RAM goes for around $300, so Apple could make that one $100 cheaper.

All high-end laptops use NVMe SSDs, but they still cost $500-$1000 less than MBPs with equivalent specs.

Question for Macrumors. Does it not shock you that with all your and our rumor sources, Apple is still able to pull off these stealth updates without us being able to see them coming? I don't mean that we have no rumors. You obviously report them quite well. But just like this "boom" they are on the website and available for purchase and if you asked folks who are totally clued in what MONTH this was coming in, you would have gotten guesses for August, September and even a few people guessing October.

I am surprised that Apple chose to update MBPs and release an eGPU silently. Why not demonstrate the power of the eGPU if they are so set on widening its adoption? Is it because it does not add much performance to the 15" MBP? Is it because the 13" MBP would look like the better cost option with an eGPU? Is it because it cannot be used with the MB which would benefit most from an eGPU?

Thanks for dropping the ball yet again Apple. Not updating the nTB with quad core means you won't get my money.
The nTB MBP uses a 15 W CPU, and currently an 8th gen 15W Intel CPU with Iris Graphics doesn't exist. It was either stay put (dual core but with Iris graphics) or upgrade to quad core and downgrade the graphics. I suppose they could've put a 28 W CPU in it like the TB models, but that would also drive up the cost...

Most likely because creatives have started to complain loudly (read youtube influencers, journalists on tech websites) that apple is behind on the chip game. Can't wait any longer.

Well the same design (same keyboard?). I'm disappointed.

I was informed they use "3rd Generation Butterfly Keyboard" which is not the same as 2016 and 2017 models. I have no idea if these will run into the same quality issues from the past versions, but I sure as hell hope they don't fail over such ridiculous circumstances.

Does anyone else have any details around the design changes from 1st Gen to 2nd Gen to 3rd Gen keyboards?

Decent upgrades, but for that price Apple needs to do better, I'll be holding off for another year. My 2015 MBP still going strong. Hopefully next year will bring thinner bezels, variable refresh rate display, 1080p camera, and a good GPU. Offer an NVIDIA variant, there's a reason why all 'gaming' windows laptops use their GPU's.

When did Apple say anything about the 6 series and whether it was more prone to bending than the 5 series? Do you have a specific quote from Apple where they made that claim? And yes I think it’s disingenuous for Marco Arment to feign outrage that Apple didn’t add back ports or go back to an older design when the times they’ve done it in the past 20 years is next to none. He knows that. He knows they weren’t going to add back USB-A, SD Card or go back to the older keyboard design.

This is a genuine question: were you not around for the iPhone 6/6+ BendGate debate? Apple came out with a demonstration on how a person could sit on the iPhone 6/6+ and it wouldn't bend.

I understand your point about Arment, but I understand his view too. While Apple is unlikely to add back ports or go back to an older design, it is still a choice for Apple. Would Apple take heat for a reversal in design? Certainly some. Would Apple also earn praise for being flexible and being willing to admit a mistake? Certainly some. And while it would require courage and humility, I think it would also answer a lot of complaints and criticisms leveled by Apple and non-Apple tech journalists alike.

Personally, I think Apple jumped too quickly into an all-TB configuration. I love the technology but Apple afforded no transition period. I wish Apple had the courage to combine the best of the 2012-2015 MBP with the best o the 2016-present MBPs, but that will likely never happen because that is not what Apple is about anymore. That is the difference between Apple when it was guided by Steve Jobs and Apple as it is currently guided by Tim Cook and the BoE.

Variable refresh rate display will not happen. IT's a battery killer. That's why most laptops dont' have this technology. My understanding is that G-SYnc and Free-Sync does not support optimus-like technologies.

Last time on the Nvidia/AMD talk. NAME ME the Nvidia variant GPU that has 35W TDP. Than we can talk.

Unfortunately they had to remove all the ports to make room for Ivy's design vision. He knows how you should be using the machines far better than you do.

Introducing the 2020 Mac line. No ports, no keyboard. Wireless everything and Siri for the Interface!
