RAM is still DDR3! This is only a processor upgrade and 13 inch only quad core. Not a real upgrade at all. I would wait for yet another generation to change.

? You can get a Macbook on sale for ~$800?

I don't live in AMURRICA. I also don't count a sale item vs competing regular priced notebooks

A MB or MBP both start at $1729 plus at least 12% sales tax. Over $1900.

But thanks for the respectful response.

Apple would call that an iPad Pro with a keyboard, wouldn't they?

And that's definitely not a proper notebook with mac os on either is it?

Not in Canada. It's also dated so not fair to compare to something similar on the windows or chromebook side of things.

Waiting for the new iMac or the low-cost notebook lineup.
Don't know if there still be an update for Macs this year, or only the MBPs got refreshed in 2018.

Nice update. Lots of little improvements that make this revision 3 of the tb models the one to go for.

I have a 2017 15”, still very happy with it.

If I did sell to upgrade I’d probably go the 13” quad core and external GPU if I needed some guts.

It's an update Apple is hoping will drive iPad sales. And a middle finger to Mac fans.
Yes, a middle finger to all of those Mac fans who wanted the latest intel processors and 32GB of ram. Because nothing that a i9 6 core, 32Gb of ram, 4tb ssd, with 10 hours of battery life machine can do, can't be done on an iPad Pro...

If all you use your computer for is trolling on forums, it's totally overkill.

Ports are not coming back, deal with it or jump ship. The display is brilliant, not sure why the Touch Bar is a dealbreaker for people as it's really not as bad as people say (nor is the keyboard). This is a fantastic update!

I haven't tried the touchbar other than in the store... I still think i'd miss the function keys, I use them all the time

Id be curious to know how many people that bitch and moan about the updates, ever use anywhere near the full potential of their current laptops or will of the new ones... I am going to go out on a limb here and say that probably most don't.

I will say though that the prices are steep but that is not news, and with non pro models, they really don't need to lower the prices, if you want a mac you get a mac, if you don't you don't is what it usually seems to be. Which is why so many people buy them to browse the web and write papers on, they will never use all the power but they want a mac, which is also fine :)

True! The prices are the sort that you’d want to put your machine as something that’s tax deductible against running a business - whether it be a advertising agency or as a creative freelancer.

If you’re a tech enthusiast or simply want the latest and greatest but you’re shocked at the price - these machines really are not for you.

So if the new keyboard is quieter but still has issues, does a keyboard repair still require replacing the entire top half of the case (for ~$700)? If so, I am not interested. The MB/MBPs really need a redesign to make the keyboard easier to repair.

Just making some guesses here. I have no idea how they designed it. I was merely suggesting that Apple may have isolated the problem after enough complaints came in. Hence my “wait and see” opinion on the 2018 model.

"MacBooks aren't 'pro' until they have 32GB of RAM!"

"Oh wait, they have 32GB of RAM? What about i9 processors? Oh really? 4TB storage option? That too, huh. Well...that keyboard still sucks. I am sticking this a Chromebook until they make a REAL laptop. Can I borrow $5 for lunch. I am broke."

bah.

On theater hand, I bought a MB pro YESTERDAY. bah for me too.

that's not LPDDR3

Spec overview...

"16GB Total. 2pcs 8 GB of 1867 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM (PC3-14900)"

If only they wouldn't have been so cheap on the graphics card. A 4GB Radeon RX 560x? Why not the 8GB Radeon RX 570 or 580?
