Actually I placed my order for a free bumper before I realized they had refunded me for the one I bought two weeks ago.

But will he cancel the request for the free case, once he realized he'd be getting a refund? Stay tuned...
 
same here. first tried four hours ago and couldn't get it. tried it again just now and still can't get in!

So ABC wrote a story on this that is simply a joke.

And I quote....

The new app lets every iPhone 4 owner order the free bumper cases Apple CEO Steve Jobs promised them last week to alleviate the reception problems plaguing the newest iPhone

The only thing "plaguing" the newest iPhone is the media and bloggers run amuck. I don't see how 0.55% support calls and 1.7% returns constitute "plaguing"...... The media loves a failure, in a string of successes, the facts won't ever matter, if they can make their bigger messes.

It goes on to say.....

Free Bumper Announcement Comes After Weeks of Complaints

Again.... weeks of complaints or weeks of overblown media hoopla? They are still milking this story for all it is worth.

They even go on to quote the "We're not perfect" and "Phones aren't perfect" without qualifying it with any of the facts released at the press conference to make it sound like Steve Jobs conceded that there was a problem unique to the iPhone-4 -- which he did not.

I suppose ABC News is just trying to show that even though Steve Jobs owns a larger share of their company than any other single person in the world that they still aren't afraid to misconstrue his words and the truth for the sake of dragging a bad story on and running it into the ground.

Nice job ABC News. Way to report the truth.

I've been trying periodically since 9 AM, still no luck.. I've tried resetting my password, making a new account, reinstalling the app and restarting the phone, uninstall-restart-install app. Everything! I haven't tried resyncing my phone because I don't have my computer with me.

What's the problem???

Anybody else have this problem and solve it? "We are unable to process your request. Please try again later."

I'd be inclined to just think it was high demand, but everyone else I know has logged in and ordered first try and there seems to be minimal complaints on here.

Frustrating. :confused:

Give away? Surely you must know that none of the suppliers in this offer, save Apple, is giving its cases away for nothing.

I went for the Speck HD thingy. Delivery date 7th September. At least it will be September 2010. Could have been worse, I suppose.

Why is nobody who is peeved about the lack of choice of colours in this freebie mentioning that Apple is currently selling the iPhone 4 in only one colour as well?
 
Just got my confirmation for my order...estimated shipping date SEPT 23rd. What happened to ships in 3-5 weeks?
 
Just ordered mine. But come on - Shipment more than a month from now (August 27th shipment date)! Luckily, I am getting one of those side protectors from http://fusionofideas.com for free ($1.50 shipping cost only). Looks very cool! I hope they still have some left.
 
Speck PixelSkin HD iPhone 4 - Black for me. If I don't like the rubbery style case then I will purchase one of the ultra thin clear hard plastic cases.

I never bought a case for my first 2g iPhone. This design had me thinking I wanted one. Since they are free, I'll definitely take them up on it.
 
Well, I ain't one much for supposin'

But I figger the whining in 3-5 weeks about the black cases not being black enough will be a real hoot!
 
Ordered this at work today, went with one of the Griffin smoke ones, and then when I got home from work, I found the Otterbox Defender I had ordered earlier in the week that I had also thought had a month's lead time on it. The Otter is pretty bulky, makes the iPhone as big as... er... well... every other phone... but it gives one the sense that aside from backing over it in the family car, the phone should survive pretty much anything. I will see which I prefer in 3 to 5 weeks, I guess.
 
When I try to enter my itunes password it keeps telling me I have the wrong password. WTF
 
I don't understand why there aren't different colored bumpers on the app? Just black? Cmon apple ...i want my orange.

Yeah, maybe they didn´t want to. I still don´t understand why they are offering free bumpers at all. If you have problems with the phone: just bring it back to the store. Now they are offering bumpers for free, but you have nothing better to do than complaining about the freaking colour?
Why should they offer more colours for free?
It´s just a gift to customers like you. Remember what you said before? You are not the center of the universe..
 
sigh, is it possible to just go to the apple store and ask for one of the free cases?

Apple are certainly being disingenuous with their advertising. Sure, gripping any phone causes attenuation.
The intrinsic fault with the iPhone 4 design, however, is actually that you can bridge the antennas with your skin. They're exposed - they're conductive. It's bloody obvious to anybody who has studied basic physics.

Where I live, I only have to touch over the black bar on the bottom left of the phone for it to drop from the 1 or 2 bars that I get to No Service...

Taking it back isn't so simple when you've got so much invested, both time and money, in the general workflow and lifestyle that you've built up in and around iOS. There is also the direct investment in the apps and music that you've purchased.

I also no longer have the 3G that my iPhone 4 replaced...

For me therefore, the phone would not be fit for purpose without a case. As I see it, Apple really had no choice. It would be, in my opinion, wholly unreasonable to expect the cost burden of getting an iPhone 4 to a fit, usable state to be bourn out by the customer.

You obviously chose not to read the multiple times that I said I have no issue whatsoever with whatever case they want to give me. I am speaking my mind for those that it DOES affect.
 
I'm confused - several people are complaining about the lack of color selection, claiming that they want their case for aesthetic purposes. If the whole reason for the free case is a UTILITARIAN purpose, that is, to correct a design flaw, then this free case program serves that purpose.

If you want a case for AESTHETIC purposes, that is to make your iPhone look nicer/cuter/sexier/whatever, then wouldn't you be the type of person to buy one anyway, even without the antenna issue? Meaning that you are not the type of customer being targeted by the free case deal, and you weren't having any problems anyway (since you already had a case or were getting one to make your phone look nicer).

Many pages ago someone suggested an analogy to a car purchase, saying that what Apple was doing was like a car manufacturer having a door handle problem, and you go to get your blue car fixed and they only have a red handle. That's a spurious analogy. A better one would be to describe what you want as this - you bring your blue car in, they offer you a free blue handle, and you want a chrome handle and get all upset when you can't get one.

At the end of the day, it's FREE, and for many people honestly unnecessary. I tried to affect my reception with the death grip, and I did notice a drop in bars, although never to zero or one, and never to the extent that reception was affected. In my regular usage I never have any problem.

Anyway, enjoy your free case.
