Not really no. Apple is doing something to help people resolve a functional issue. You're complaining that it doesn't fit your particular *style* wishes. They're *not* doing this half-assed. If they want to understand, read the top part of this post.

Okay then, Mr. Apple Apologist. Keep drinking the Kool-Aid.

I think that everyone extrapolated that we would have a choice regarding the bumpers. I've watched the press conference, and at no point does SJ say that you can only order the black bumper. Not once.

For a company that is so detail-oriented, you would think that if they were only giving the black one away, he would have specifically stated that.

Stop making excuses for a corporation.

Ok. If Apple is only going to give away Black Bumpers and a light selection of 3rd party cases in black, why make the other colors unavailable? They could give away cases in black to mollify the people who are having reception issues, but there are those of us who would still like to be able to buy the other colors.

the mere fact that ppl are complaining about colors not being available doesn't strike you as "odd" or at least "childish"? no need to prove yourself or deserving as that wasn't my intent. but as the rest of my message implies (and you left out), they might as well complain about not being able to buy the phone in another color. the item is free. accept and move on. end of story.

i totally agree. however, i could only imagine certain colors running out, pissing more ppl off. IMO, apple's doing the right thing. I have no doubt you can prob order pretty colors down the road, just not now.
 
so... i got my refund, AND i got an order placed for a free bumper too. haha oh this is great :)

p.s. why is everyone so hostile about this!? iphone 4 is amazing, i love mine. death-grip isnt a big deal for me, i can make it go down to one bar if i try hard enough, never dropped a call (yet). everyone be nice!

Sorry it is not that simple. It is not like Apple is saying hey guys you are all so swell that we are going to give you this free bumper out of the goodness of our hearts. They are giving out this "free" bumper because the product they sold (for quite a lot of money) is not functioning as expected. When you buy a phone you expect to be able to make phone calls with it. It is called the iPHONE after all, not the iEverythingelse. I think calling the bumper "free" is a bit misleading. It is kind of like the "free" carwash they gave me when I purchased my car.

And no, the mere fact that people are complaining about lack of colors does not seem childish or odd to me. Apple prides themselves on making devices that are aesthetically pleasing. Why would it be so odd or childish to think that the consumer would like to have a choice (that they know Apple already offers) to have their device the way they want. Lets look at it this way. If your black iPhone was defective when you bought it and so you brought it back and they said they had to replace it would you be upset if they said sorry we only have white ones so that is what you get?

This is a good example of a corporation trying to do the right thing, and its customers being greedy and taking advantage. Why can't you be honest, take your refund and go about your business? Why do you have to take the refund and an extra case as well? Oh sure, Apple is a big company, they won't miss it, right? What about other consumers? Screw them, right? As long as you get yours.

take a chill pill and relax, seriously. my current bumper has big scuffs on it anyway from when my sister knocked my phone out of my hand.

Oh, boo-hoo for you. Better the scuffs be on your Bumper then your phone. You should grow up and take some personal responsibility and stop trying to get something for nothing.

iPhone 4 Case Program – United States
Customers who purchase an iPhone 4 from an Apple Retail Store, Apple Online Store, 1-800-MY-APPLE, or an Apple Authorized iPhone Reseller though September 30, 2010, are eligible for an iPhone 4 Bumper or other case at no cost. Customers who purchased an iPhone 4 before July 23, 2010 have through August 22, 2010 (30 days) to submit a claim. All other customers have 30 days from the purchase date of iPhone 4 to submit a claim. All claims are subject to the terms and conditions below.
Terms and Conditions
• All claims must be submitted through the iPhone 4 Case Program app.
• Only one claim may be submitted per eligible iPhone 4.
• A unique claim must be submitted from each unique iPhone 4.
• iPhone 4 Bumper and case selection is at the sole discretion of Apple.
• Apple reserves the right to substitute iPhone 4 Bumpers or other cases based on available supply.
• Apple collects specific data, including phone number, model, serial number and IMEI, to identify and validate your iPhone 4 in order to confirm eligibility.
• Customers must have an active iTunes or Apple ID to submit a claim.
• Any iPhone 4 that has been returned is not eligible.

I purchased a bumper when I bought my phone, got a refund on it yesterday. Then, I got another free bumper from the app today :D

You're looking a little too deep into this.

I'd take the replacement iphone in any color that was available, because as you mentioned, it's a phone.
 
Just got A order confirmation email. Ships by aug 27 and delivered by sept. 1 by standard mail. Lol they must be on a major back order.

I went with the Incase Snap Case for iPhone 4 - Clear. Was between that and the Belkin, but didn't want that Belkin logo going across the top of the backside. 3-5 weeks to ship though, meh. At least it's free.

Well that is great for you. Just because that is how you feel does not mean others need to feel the same way. Color is an important feature for many people. If it wasn't there there would be no color choices with anything, ever. But obviously there are because people want it.
 
I STILL cannot even login to the app. Request cannot be processed, try later... I've changed my password, tried everything, nothing will work. ugh.
 
can someone please just clarify if there will be a new iphone 4 that will have a physical change to it addressing the antenna issue....i hope not

I hope that Apple's app is tracking all of the refunds and comparing them against requests for free cases and then notifying those of you who tried to take advantage that because you have received credit for a bumper case, you are not eligible to receive a second case.

What's weird is I used the app this morning to order the inCase Snap Case, and got a confirmation email it was ordered. Now about 5 minutes ago I get an email saying I received my refund to my credit card that I used to buy my bumper on launch day.(which I'm not really fond of but it will do until something better comes along)

You are honestly whining your can't choose a specific COLOR? I suppose you are pissed one of the options isn't a 24k gold plated titanium case too. Get OVER IT, you are getting a case for FREE, to solve an 'issue' that is only an 'issue' because whiners like you made it one. 99% of people have had no reception issues, but the vocal minority (as well as people who don't even have the phone but just hate Apple) freaked out and cried like babies. Apple doesn't even have to give you ANY case at all, let alone a free one.
