And I was referring to the new version. You didn't notice that this thread is about the new version that was just released?

You are quite daft aren't you?
My comment was regarding both current (if the problem existed) and previous. As in the quoted text above it. (How forums work). But please feel free to continue this.

'Skeuomorphism' is still rampant in iOS7. "Tabs" and stacking card views like the new "pages" view in iOS7's Safari are still skeuomorphic. There are "switches" galore through all the settings pages that are just visual copies of the hardware switches on older iPod Shuffles. Ableton Live's "flat" design has skeuomorphisms of traditional hardware mixers (knobs, sliders, bouncing 'LED' style displays, oscilloscope style displays etc). What has changed in iOS7 (and already there in Live, for years) is the style in which the skeuomorphism has been drawn.

What people need to realize that not all skeumorphism is bad skeumorphism. Functional skeumorphs (switches, knobs, clocks, calendars) exist because, even in a digital state, they are still functional. Aesthetic skeumorphs (green felt, stitched leather, and a lot of the visual flourishes in Logic) are unnecessary and can be done away with.

That said, though, I find the aesthetic skeumorphs in Logic to be charming, especially since they're applied in an environment where it blends with the functional skeumorph.

I am also one. I have an album on iTunes , but I don't perform live...just chasing my dream of making music.

Keep it coming, man! Don't let negative people say you can't... If it weren't for the non-pros supporting the business and buying pro software and pro hardware maybe we wouldn't have such evolution on technologies like we do.

May I have the link to your album? :D

I love this update for the most part.

My only complaint is with the drop down tool bar. Its to big. They should add an option to make it and the icons smaller.. Also they should add more shortcut options for the bar.. I find myself missing the preferences and project settings buttons.

Track stacks are awesome.. Im glad that they also left the ability to pack regions in to folders (logic 9) style.. In addition to folder stacks.. They both hAve their own used.. Now logic has the best of both worlds.

New ui is also fantastic to look at and a bit more logical.. No pun intended.

Direct Export to SoundCloud? Sure, let's just forget about referencing your mixes on other systems (ex. YOUR CAR...) to ensure they sound the best they can everywhere.

What? SoundCloud is used by tons of musicians and producers to pass around and share demos. Apple is just providing a feature to make easier something that many people already do. The standard mixdown export abilities are still there, which you can use to your heart's content.

Your message doesn't make sense man. Sounds like you're just ranting, but I didn't see any legitimate complaints about X that make it less useful for professionals.

I can't believe you are blaming Apple for your Mac's shortcomings. I bet all of your audio you are streaming is on the same HDD as the app... I bet!

So glad you understand what is going on. You and milo should get a beer. You can wear your "Genius" T-shirts.

Because I can 'out-drum' that feature with one pass on a midi keyboard and I find that most producers can do that too. Please do not misinterpret my thinking as ''the old way is the right way,'' or something of that nature, rather try to understand that a feature like this is something I wouldn't use because it would actually slow me down.

While I still maintain checking a box in a dialog window would be faster, respect for your skills. I also understand the wanting to see long standing bugs squashed especially since it's been so long since the program saw an update.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that Apple gives this program updates as quickly as they have for Final Cut X as of late.

Maybe you do? Thanks for insulting me for raising a valid question... And maybe you are the one being way less professional than he wants to be.

The poor dithering of Logic is a well known and widely discussed subject among (really) professional audio engineers... Google is your friend.

Sorry, that YOU didn't hear about it... ;-)

Look, I'm not here to argue but preposterous statements that are misleading annoy me. Do you understand what dithering is? Are you aware that Logic uses POWr dithering that actually occur outside it's audio engine?

I've mastered using Logc at Metropolis in London where we tested signal degradation within the DAWs, so I am fully aware of the quality of Logic's audio engine. Whilst arguable not as conclusive as PT it slaughters Reason, Ableton, DP and others.

For you to say that the Logic is well known for a poor audio engine just makes you look naff.

This upgrade removes your Logic 9 install... and Logic 9 is no longer available from Apple to download. So install at your own risk.

----------

Aw, that's just unforgivable. Between that and all the sound glitch problems (still) on all the post snow Leopard OS versions (do a search), there is nothing in this new version I need for the foreseeable future.

Sorry Apple. This is not going to force me to "upgrade" my OS. Not this time.

And looking at the demo of drummer on you tube? The "following" of the chunky guitar track is completely unacceptable. I predict a whole lot of horrible sounding TV soundtrack music in the future, more horrible than the "needledrop" sample programs of today.

I AM glad Apple made this app; it's just not for me. If I ever do install it, it will be on a COMPLETELY separate drive with the new OS, and I have a feeling I'll never use it beyond a few hours of experimenting.

It doesn't remove your logic 9 install and you can still download logic 9 if you bought it previously.

TESLA: We're releasing a new electric new generation car.

NY Guitarist: Ford has had tires for many years now.

The Tesla analogy is a failure on your part in understanding that the reality is the other way around.

The automotive equivalent would be an established car company (Apple) boasting about a NEW feature (like air conditioning, or power windows) that other companies have had for MANY years, and fanboiz of that car company getting all worked up over it. AIR CONDITIONING, HOLY CRAP! AMAZING! UNBELIEVABLE!

Apple is NOT releasing anything groundbreaking, nor pushing any innovation in LPX. The biggest change that Apple is driving in the market is the race to the bottom for software prices, which is intended to sell Apple hardware. Undercutting competitor's software prices only hurts the consumer by making those companies struggle and possibly go out of business, thereby limiting choices consumers have and killing innovation.

The high end and the low end markets will be there, but the powerful mid-range products are going away. Calling it 'pro' is just a marketing technique to drive sales.

I may not know what is going on; but, i can see that you don't either. You are attempting to create a sweater from a piece of lint.

I won't turn this into a flame war. Good luck with your software, sir.

Never seen this problem in Reason 7.

You can play infinite tracks with infinite plugins and infinite polyphony and never run out of memory? That is impressive.

HOLY CRAP! AMAZING! UNBELIEVABLE!

Have any of the "fanbois" actually had this reaction, or is this just a straw man? Seems like Logic users are glad to have those features, which seems reasonable to me.

Not to mention that the exact same thing happens when DP or another DAW gets a feature years after Logic has already had it. The big hype of their last release was 64 bit.

Apple is NOT releasing anything groundbreaking, nor pushing any innovation in LPX.

Is there another app that has a midi plugin that lets users create their own midi processing via javascript?

Honestly, the DAW market is a mature one, at this point nobody is doing anything terribly innovative, it's mostly just refinement and stealing features from plugins and other DAWs. But an upgrade doesn't have to be "groundbreaking" to be worth shelling out for, it just needs to have enough improvements that that particular user finds use for.

Upgrade Path

I'm actually super bummed out to find out there is NO upgrade path. WHATSOEVER. I'm a firm believer in the 30-day late adopter policy. Pro Tools has this, lots of hardware companies have it - even apple does it sometimes with their hardware - pull it off the shelves a few weeks in advance.

I bought Logic Pro 9 on July 2nd for $199. I just discovered that Logic Pro X was released yesterday, only 14 days after my purchase. I called apple to inquire about some sort of upgrade path to the new version since my purchase was so recent, and was told by 2 representatives that this should be no problem, who then forwarded me to another department. (series of calls totaled 43 minutes)

I was then told by a Senior Advisor that there is no upgrade path, regardless of purchase date. All refunds are impossible as well.

I suppose there is no legal obligation here. I understand, I bought Logic 9 and I have Logic 9. But I know just about every other software company covers people who have invested several hundred dollars in a program who become the victim of a secret press campaign such as this. Avid, for example, covered people who invested in their Pro Tools software within a month or so of their initial announcement.

I'm very disappointed in this type of service from Apple. I think it's unfair for one of the biggest corporations in the world to treat late-adopters to software in this way, as there is justification for not being able to enjoy the full potential of a piece of software before a new version is launched.

I'm now expected to accept sessions from Logic X after JUST buying Logic 9 - just terrible.

I was scared to invest in Logic 9 two weeks ago because of this situation. I read many forum posts saying that upgrades have been covered in such instances in the past, and I am immensely regretting this purchase now.

Apple has now created an environment that I am afraid to purchase software in. For the first time, I feel that I am being treated unreasonably by Apple support. Without any revision to this policy, I doubt I'll be back to the app store for any big purchases.

Drum Kit Designer? Here's my two cents on that: lol. I suspect that a lot of emerging 'artists' during the next few years will all have the reminiscent sound of those exact sounds and patterns. ...because that's entertaining...(not. in case you didn't pick up on my text sarcasm)
Direct Export to SoundCloud? Sure, let's just forget about referencing your mixes on other systems (ex. YOUR CAR...) to ensure they sound the best they can everywhere. Yeah, let's go ahead and trust Apple's crappy, standard, and mass-produced 2.1 system built into every iMac, or worse, MacBook speakers that can't even reproduce the entire audible spectrum of sound.

Drum Kit Designer would be better if it was actually a MIDI instrument. But the SoundCloud integration will be useful to a lot of people, and has nothing to do with how well the mixing/mastering will be. You are acting like it's impossible to hook up decent monitors to the computer.

I am enjoying this update, drummer is an awesome click track
I find whatever I click on, just reacts.
I am noticing I can lower my buffer settings from L9
Also running Mavericks beta 3 with it.
No problems.

They should have just rebranded it as Garageband Pro because thats what it is. This whole "drummer" thing in addition to better "autotune" is a race to the bottom where they appeal to the lowest common denominator....whats next just push a button and the entire song & arrangement is done for you? Don't like it, just push the button again until it gets it right.

The javascript option in the midi plug-ins is sweet, and glad to hear they've kept the Environment. The upgraded vintage keyboards look awesome! The bass amp designer was long overdue.

I hope they've fixed alot of the little quirks from the previous version like how it handles panning stereo tracks and not being able to adjust a track w/ automation from the mixer window etc.

Not having an upgrade path from 9 is lame.

What aspect of an upgrade to Logic, released on the App Store, at a lower price point (all hinted at with FCPX), and which has been rumoured here for ages, did you not see coming?

Probably because these rumors you've been talking about have been going on for AGES, and it's been very quite on that front for many months now, so for them to release it out of the blue is a surprise

So please don't act all high and mighty like you excepted it to be released this week

Drum Kit Designer would be better if it was actually a MIDI instrument.
If you drag the kit designer track into a regular midi track, it becomes a midi file (then play it back with Kontakt or whatever better drums you have). The reverse is also true - any other midi file can be played back using the kit designer drums.

I thought it was lame at first, but it's pretty fun to mess around with.
[edit] PS currently not endorsing purchasing this. It's crashed on me about 15 times tonight.

Point taken, and I agree with you.
