This gets brought up every time.

IIRC US prices don't include taxes, EU prices do. And Apple has to build in a margin for currency fluctuations or it'd be changing its prices every few days.

You dont get it. 6 hours ago you could pick up a 13" laptop from Apple for £700. The 13" model has received a very minimal refresh, yet has gone up in price dramatically. Apple raised it from £600 to £700 about a month ago when UK Tax increased 2.5%.

They are abusing the situation BIG TIME. Even with tax added on, the new 13" model shouldn't have gone above £899.

the 15" model with anti-glare screen now do not have the black frame around the screen
is this a new change or has it always been that

always been like that, i have one but i like the look with glass beter...

I am sorry to hear that, but what did you expect?

MBP 13 starts off with 320 GB HDD. Apple cannot afford to put in 320GB SSD with price tag of 1199 dollars.

MBP go as high as 750GB. Again, that's too much for apple to put in as SSD.

They had to make a choice.

IF you want more performance, you have to give up storage. If you want to have a storage, then performance goes away.

Apple cannot get away with what they did with MBA on MBP. 64GB, 128, or even 256 GB SSD is not enough for pro users.

You know, they could have used 7200 rpm drive, which are almost exactly the same pricing as their 5400 rpm version. Why not just use WD Scorpio Black drives? 5400rpm driving on $1100+ is bad, and when used on $2000+ laptops it is just insulting.

agreed on the difference on 'specs' of the processor, but for the cost between the two mechines and still no blue-ray in sight nor 1080p, its a massive SAVE! no?

They are expensive, no doubt or argument from me there. But then that's no real surprise is it? You've always been able to buy equivalent parts from other vendors for about 2/3rds the cost. I do think apple have been slightly gready with

a) the default screen res
b) the default graphics cards.
c) the 13" is weak compared to other manufacturers and is overpriced even for apple.

Both these should be higher spec at this price point.

Overall though no real surprise on the prices/spec, typically apple, and some nice improvements all round.

wow only 7 hour battery life that sucks

wtf??? what is this crap??? 7 hours battery time on the 13"

is it me, or has the quoted battery life gone down from ten hours to seven?

They changed their test since the new MBA to be more realistic, at least this is my explanation.

Apple is using a new, more rigorous battery test that measures the results you can expect in the real world — like surfing your favourite sites in a coffee shop or catching up on the latest web videos. Even using this new test, MacBook Pro delivers amazing battery life. For your real life.

Wireless web testing conducted by Apple in February 2011 using pre-production 2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7–based 15-inch MacBook Pro units. The wireless web test measures battery life by wirelessly browsing 25 popular websites with display brightness set to 50%. Battery life varies by use and configuration. See www.apple.com/uk/batteries for more information.

I am loving the new specs. It would have been perfect if the resolution was 1650 by default, but sadly it is not. :( I like that they went with AMD for the graphics and bumped up the CPU to quad core on the 15" and 17". I will be putting my order in April for this.

The battery life was already cut 3 hours. I don't know if people would rather have a faster HDD or longer battery life.

What's the point of these fast processors, if you are always going to be bottlenecked at the hard drive? Quad-core with a 5400rpm hard drive is such a useless combo. You have all this processing power, but the machine can't pull the data off the hard drive at anything but a snail's pace.

I am happy

never thought apple would put quad core in their notebooks woowww apple thanks :)

happy birth day stevee :apple::apple::apple::)

amazing they put i5 and i7 in 13

do you guys remember those days we were mad at apple why there is no usb3

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

they just had a better surprise for us;)

No Quad core 13" ...meh...

No, but the 2.7GHz is the core i7. That's a great leap from the Core 2 Duo in the outgoing 13" MacBook Pro. While the graphics are a step backward, overall the new 13" Pro is a more compelling purchase than the previous model. The processor is significantly faster and the Thunderbolt port is a nice addition. It's too bad they couldn't get the weight down. Perhaps that's for the "total redesign" in 2012.

Where are the UK prices listed? The online store is still down...

Itching to find out cos I was able to afford a 15" with high specs before, not sure if I'll be able to stretch to that now.

Cheers.

Between 15" and 17"

Between 15" and 17" one of the difference is SDXC and ExpressCard/34.

Any pointers to SDXC v/s ExpressCard/34 comparison?

LoL @ the people moving from a 13 inch to the 15 just to get better specs. :apple:'s incremental ploy works again. Welcome to the rape. The 15 inch prices are stratospherically high in comparison to everything else on the market. No I'll get one of those G3 Intel SSDs which will make everything feel faster that this lame update.

It's been quite some time since I bought a new computer. Currently have a RevA (or as I prefer to call it, Revolutionar-A) MacBook Air and C2D Alu iMac. Both generally fine though it's time to update, was planning to around May. However, I have an insurance claim finishing up and thought I may as well use that. Such a shame the "good" stuff is BTO - the hi-res screen on the 15" particularly. If that was standard... hubba hubba. Obviously, an insurance claim store credit will be for a normal store, not Apple, so not BTO options. Damn it!

13" was my most likely choice anyway. Is the screen in the MacBook Air 13" of the same quality as the 13" Pro? Or is it a higher res, but inferior display?

It's not uncommon for Apple products... Look at the AppStore, the iTunes store, etc.. The price around the world are always higher than in the US.

Look at the iPhone...

Most of this crap is produced for less than half of the price in asian countries and shipped to the US....so this makes no sense, sorry! They are overpriced like ****!
