They are expensive, no doubt or argument from me there. But then that's no real surprise is it? You've always been able to buy equivalent parts from other vendors for about 2/3rds the cost. I do think apple have been slightly gready with
a) the default screen res
b) the default graphics cards.
c) the 13" is weak compared to other manufacturers and is overpriced even for apple.
Both these should be higher spec at this price point.
Overall though no real surprise on the prices/spec, typically apple, and some nice improvements all round.
Is there a trick to force the new MBP to only use the integrated graphics in order to get back to the battery times of the models which only had integrated graphics (ie, the 2009/2010 13" and low-end 15")?Used to be 10 hours for the 13-inch and 8-hours for the 15-inch.
Unless the 6490M turns out to benchmark much higher than the 330M GT I'm keeping my 15" for now...
is it me, or has the quoted battery life gone down from ten hours to seven?
http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/features.html#battery
Possibly because the 13" now has a discrete graphic card.
wtf??? what is this crap??? 7 hours battery time on the 13"
You dont get it. 6 hours ago you could pick up a 13" laptop from Apple for £700. The 13" model has received a very minimal refresh, yet has gone up in price dramatically. Apple raised it from £600 to £700 about a month ago when UK Tax increased 2.5%.
They are abusing the situation BIG TIME. Even with tax added on, the new 13" model shouldn't have gone above £899.
Surely, if those are your main concerns, buy a Macbook Air ?
What absolute *******s.
They really screwed the UK over with this.
USD Price for the LOWEST spec one: $1199
This converts to GBP at £740 (todays rate)
Apple are selling it for £999!
You'd have to be a complete moron to be willing to pay that for such a poor spec 13" model!
They really are taking the piss big time with those prices. For another £300 you can buy a Mac Pro for goodness sake!
I am waiting for the new MacBook Air 13" (probably October '11). It will include the same nice resolution (unless Apple downgrades like they did with the battery now), Thunderbolt port with devices available, SSD and no space-wasting optical drive, Lion etc.
The more I think of it, the MBA becomes more and more attractive. I don't really see any advantages of the MBP over MBA, except CPU speed and an IO port which still lacks devices...
Surely, if those are your main concerns, buy a Macbook Air ?
Where are the UK prices listed? The online store is still down...
Itching to find out cos I was able to afford a 15" with high specs before, not sure if I'll be able to stretch to that now.
Cheers.
