And maybe we should make all movies black and white and silent because some people have older television sets and might have their speakers turned off?

It is exactly this attitude which has allowed Microsoft to ignore internet standards - we keep pandering to outdated, non-compliant software because it's what "everybody uses" - why does everybody use it? Firefox is free, more secure than internet explorer and standards compliant - do your students a favour and stop making them work on software which is out of date and a security risk - it's not going to cost anyone any money?

Internet Explorer 6 is dead - 7 is a mess - just move to firefox - we could all do it overnight and destroy the explorer market share and move to a standards compliant, secure, future!

Its a fair point

I know were all apple fans and i should be shot for saying this but currently Firefox 3 is better than Safari

All working fine...

Is up and running and working fine for me!

I'm not sure that stating "apple doesn't have as much experience of web apps as google" is a strong point - Apple have pinched most of Googles top programmers as well as incredibly experienced web development engineers to work on this.

Remember a few things:

- Apple doesn't have as much experience in Web Apps as, say, Google. This is a premium service though, and we can't excuse poor quality. It should be working soon, or they'll revert to .Mac (PR disaster, but it's better than having lots of customers without service -- or is it? This is Steve)
- This was made on a strict deadline. It had to be at demo-able state by WWDC, and had to be out to launch alongside the iPhone 3G. They may have had to rush certain bits, which will be fixed after launch. They may have discovered bugs at the last minute, and had to update things whilst launch preparations were ongoing.
- Apple's .Mac servers probably never experienced this kind of load. Hopefully they bought a few more for this service (Push needs a permanent connection to the client. With 3 or 4 devices per user, that's a lot of stress for the servers). Apple may not have anticipated the load they're getting now.
- Web Apps can be pretty complex, as they have no strict structural requirements. And this is built off SproutCore, which I don't think has been tested extensively under heavy load.

You're 100% right about the .Mac servers never experiencing this much traffic. No way they ever could have.

I wonder that after keeping us all awake the whole night, was SJ sleeping or banging his head against his Office wall!

P.S.: Im really really scared for Apple employees responsible for this transition!:p

Tell that to the 10,000 employees at my company who have IE 6 as part of the standard image (and about 8000 of them with locked down machines and no way of installing firefox).

Question:

We're all trying to get into the web apps, which are obviously screwed up, but are the Push features working for those with the 2.0 update? No one's talking about those.

Can we now establish the 5 minute rule? You must be consistenlty working on me.com before you can post. IT'S WORKING NOW! or THIS IS IT! :apple:

My heart can't take that excitement. This forum has become an emotional roller coaster!

Ive realise when it was up when i would type www.me.com it would then show www.me.com/idisk and then redirect to auth.apple.com. It seems like they were testing every feature one at a time.

Update: when you go on auth.apple.com it redirects to http://www.me.com/not_found/

I agree with this observation. The only item that consistently gets me booted out is calender. I think the calender app is giving them problems. I hope they have this fixed soon. I want to sync my PC and mac with my iphone later today.

You know, if some of you didn't sit there pressing "refresh" all the time along with hundreds of thousands of other clowns, it would probably be working fine.

Go watch a movie or go to work. The cause of this problem is lunatics endlessly polling the servers.

Normally I ignore any thread with 500 posts on it, but much to my surprise, this has been truly entertaining to me. I'm bummed I have to go to work now, this truly is hilarious.

I think Steve is sitting there with this thread on his screen and a big slider on his iPhone that is labelled 'Servers Up' at one end and 'Servers Down' at the other, giggling himself silly.

You're right

because the Canada dollar is not the same as the US dollar

The US dollar is worth $0.01 more than the Canadian dollar. Of course it is the other way around once you pay conversion fees.

It's not up for final until you can sign in via System Prefs. Until then it's still in testing.

Also, anybody notice Apple hasn't registered me.de or me.co.uk yet? Somebody want to make a quick buck (or million), jut go register one of those. Oh, and don't look for mich.de (mich = german for me). Turns out it's a porn site :S

What gives you first dibs on enjoying MobileMe before the rest of us? There is something else up here. If I was Apple I'd be extremely excited to know me.com has gotten a million hits over the past 6 hours, and I wouldn't tell all those people to go make a sandwich. :)

Really, I mean who expects to be able to use a service you pay for?? Don't you know that you are supposed to happily give your money even when there is no service?

By the way, some of us are at work and some of us rely on our mail accounts that we subscribe to for work ... thus, this is more than just an inconvenience to some.

Its a good point!

But i dont think thats entirely the problem....the down time is far to long for the server to be rebooting....it must be apple taking it up and down...also if it was us apple would have realized by now and tried a different approach!

Same here - I work in DC for a Federal department and we are locked-in to IE 6 with no hope for an upgrade to Firefox or Safari. I recently asked IT for an upgrade to IE 7 in the hopes that I could get to MobileMe but was denied. Now the only way I can check e-mail from work will be if I get an iPhone...

Don't worry, it would be worth every penny. Take it from one of the 95% of Extremely Satisfied iPhone customers.
