The date that MobileMe was going to go LIVE, was on Apples website all this time. From the first time they posted the page about Mobile Me. It was in their Logo for MobileMe all along. Look at the icon for the Calendar, it says "Tuesday 9".
I didn't catch it. Honestly, did anyone else?

What year? I don' t think we've have a Tuesday 9th this year yet. Tuesday 9th was January or October 2007.

Good catch except that the 9th was Wednesday...

Are we really still offline?!

Is it only possible to send and recieve email from the Mail app then?

I am inbetween macs so this is somewhat annoying.

Did anyone actually get to see their mail online at all before? I like everyone else was posting was just having and endless load screen, was their anyone at all who did see mail?

Was it looking like a good set up if you did?

(PS. very sorry for the rickroll earlier, i hope it did not cause anyone any stress in the context of the annoying mail wait, i have never rickrolled before and i wont again. Sorry.)

Apple sucks balls... And this comes from a fanboi :D

They should've let them run together till me.com is stable enough.
Now we don't have either and it sucks.

So it's no Vista for you guys I guess?

Let me get this right. MS created a browser that barely conforms to web standards, IE6. Some would even say that they deliberately subverted the standards in order to make enough of the web IE only and thus a Windows only experience. Evidently, certain organisations cannot afford to upgrade to Vista because doing so would break their apps/intranets. Their dumbass plan has meant they lost Vista sales. You reap what you sow.

Thats correct, no Vista.. I had asked about that the other day and as of now the plan is to stick with XP until the replacement for Vista comes out. (That all depends on the timetable for that to be released).

The decision not to upgrade to Vista isn't completly cost based though, if Vista came out as a solid, reliable, secure platform I'm sure they would have migrated to it but at this point they've ordered so many PC's over the last 2+ years since Vista has been out it would require us to go back and upgrade the OS on those newer machines and thats just a waste of time especially since MS has already been talking about life after Vista. There woudl be too much effort in too many departments to get everything "Vista compatible" and we've already missed half of its expected lifespan? (Assuming MS releases the next think in 3 years like they've mentioned).

See all that non-sense I wrote above? Thats why I use a Mac at home. :)

OK - enough about Vista/IE 6-7 & Firefox - I don't wanna be hijacking this thread! :)

Mobile Safari and MobileMe

So, I was looking around in the source code and this is what I found.

How are the iPhone users supposed to access mobileme if its not supported??

If you try to go to www.me.com from iPhone's Safari browser, it takes you to an iPhone welcome screen telling you that you should access all of your information through the iPhone's built-in apps instead of using Safari...

How is it that a few people here have the Mobileme icon in the System Preferences? I haven't seen any update in SW control panel accept for iTunes 7.7.

After countless attempts, I finally logged into MobileMe via the web. But as soon as I clicked the calendar tab, I got sent back to http://apple.com/mobileme and can't log in again. Didn't get a chance to see anything really.

I downloaded a bunch of (free) apps from the Application store earlier, and I can send and check email from Mail.app, but the MobileMe update doesn't show up in my software update, and I can't log into .Mac via System Preferences (it says my name or password are invalid).

Now even Apple Discussions, which I was just in earlier, wouldn't load (www.apple.com wouldn't even load, but now it looks like right before I hit submit here that they're both working again). Apple's servers must be hit pretty hard by all the traffic today...

I'm also wondering what the update mechanism is for MobileMe. I got a popup on my MacBook that allowed me to download it, but nothing on my Mini.

Perhaps even more curious is the fact that doing an update check for iTunes on the PC still says that my version (7.6.2) is the current version. Yet all my macs have updated to 7.7. Weird.

Once this is over, I'd read love for any of the Apple engineers involved in the .Mac/MobileMe upgrade to blog about what happened. This is/has certainly been an eventful day for them.

The difference is that .mac is a CURRENT SERVICE that until yesterday was up and running, and many people rely on it for files/data etc. I am currently PAYING FOR IT TO NOT WORK, whereas you don't pay for iTunes until you dl the song.

I can still access my mail and my iDisk, from mail.app and finder. The sevices are working, just not the web interface. I understand that it's frustrating for users who rely on the web interface, but still, I don't see this being a launch disaster (yet).

From what everyone has posted, you get it if you successfully connect to me.com and then go to System Preferences but only while System Preferences is able to communicate with MobileMe.

So right now, System Preferences can't see MobileMe, so it wont know whether the update should be pushed to you.

I can understand delays ... sometimes things happen, but what is utterly inexcusable is the complete lack of communication by apple. How about an email to current .Mac subscribers (who are paying for the service) saying "Sorry for the delay ... We expect it to be up and running at [insert time here]." Even if that time is tomorrow or the next day, at least we'd know. This is not what I have come to expect from Apple's customer service and it is very disappointing.

Be careful if you keep getting to the point where you enter card details.

If you hit enter on that page and it then redirects to the failed page, they'll put a hold on the cost of a subscription on your card :( They've done it to me twice, so i've got £120 pending on my account - That or it is really broken and they're actually taking the full money for trials. :p
