I'm fine with the iPad update (whatever), but they should have taken the opportunity to cheapen their iCloud plans that they now give away to kids for nothing.

Amazon passed Apple in tech?? LOL. Good thing Amazon discontinued their Fire Phone. They probably just wanted to give Apple a few years to catch up.
Ummm, AWS. Apple can't make sense on how they want to approach cloud. They seem to be stuck in "how do we make our devices work with cloud tech" rather than racing to the top.

One of the many thing that isn't reported enough ( yet ) Is Apple is now giving 200GB of iCloud Storage by default to all Student account. That is value at $2.99 / month.

Assuming these iPad has a three years life span. Apple is basically handing out $108 discount on every iPad used by students.

I am sure Google and Chromebook have similar offering as well for education. But now the TCO and quality of iPad should be enough to sway the decision in flavour of Apple.

Google for Education has UNLIMITED storage. We use it with our iPads in my district. Since the iPads are 32 GB, I don't know how much the 200 GB will help. Students aren't going to upload pictures/videos to iCloud and then delete them on their iPads.

I'm an Apple fan boy but I can't help but be disappointed. With the rumors saying $259 and yet the price ended up being the same? The headline is that it's a new lower price. But it just isn't. Districts already get the same (or better) discount off the current price.

Finally, keyboards are turning out to be super important for secondary. And Apple should know this. If they really wanted to help education, they'd be adding them to the iPad. I know Apple likes to think of iPads as creative devices for video/art/music creation. But students still need to write essays and do homework. A touch screen just isn't helpful for those situations.

Apple, should perhaps listen to the feedback they get from schools. Give the customers what they want, not what Apple thinks they need.

End rant.

*whoosh*

Amazon's devices are hardly productive in any way. Putting Amazon in the same tech manufacturer basket as Apple -- or even Google -- is a farce.

Oh ok, so please do tell all of us, just how exactly does ANY Apple TV device run Microsoft Office or iWorks then, or how easy it is to dictate an essay and edit it useing the HomePod... I’m really intrigued for your answer..

You seriously need to think about what you’ve just implied there.....

Their are also plenty of office apps for the Fire Tablets.

Where's Amazon's laptop?

Should we bother asking about Amazon's desktop computers, too?

Your moving the goalposts now, YOU implied that Amazon are not as productive as Apple or Google because their media streaming sticks and smart speakers cannot run Microsoft Office or iWorks, that is what you said. Now you are trying to back track and move the goalposts and bringing laptops into it which you didn’t mention before, all because you realise how daft your comments were.

No, because that would be called doing something smart, and Apple has been anything but smart their past few product announcements. Boring, greedy Timmy wants all your iCloud storage money, just like he wants $1,000 for an iPhone and $10,000 for a Gold Apple Watch. The guy is out of touch with his customers.

very interesting. I'll take your word for it and buy it. I did just finish my program so wish I'd posted 3 years ago aha.

Thanks

It’s seriously a great book, as his “So good they can’t ignore you.” He also gave two TED talks on the two topics that are worth a watch. Deep Work is a very good book for those in the workforce.

The case connects to itself (the top and bottom, both Logitech parts) with a connector, but not to an Apple smart connector.

Notice on the screen shots how the iPad is completely enclosed in the Logitech case frame and that is what connects to the Logitech keyboard part.

That keyboard case is beyond hideous.

Just realized how much bigger and bulkier this set up will make the iPad. Not a good look imo. Lol

Apple's problem is they're blind to profits. Education spending shouldn't be about profits but seen more as marketing. At this point I guess it's futile to want Apple to realize how vital Macs are to its future. I see iOS as nothing but a mobile extension of it. A very profitable extension but it's only made possible by Macs.

Apple today announced an all-new 9.7-inch iPad, describing the tablet as its "most affordable iPad" yet and confirming it will work with the Apple Pencil. Apple said that the device was designed for powerful AR apps.

The tablet has a 9.7-inch Retina display that features a higher-resolution touch sensor to enable support for Apple Pencil, previously only compatible with iPad Pro. Apple Pencil provides a "fluid and natural" drawing experience with sensors that measure pressure and tilt so that users can take notes or illustrate in various apps.

The new iPad has an A10 Fusion chip with 64-bit desktop-class architecture, providing 40 percent faster CPU and 50 percent faster graphics performance when compared to the previous generation 9.7-inch iPad. Apple said that both front and rear cameras provide HD video recording for everything from document scanning to FaceTime calls.

One of the main applications aimed at the new iPad is augmented reality, fueled by the device's Retina display, powerful chip, enhanced cameras, and advanced sensors with a gyroscope and accelerometer. The tablet was built for mobility and durability for students, sporting an aluminum unibody construction.

The 32GB iPad with Wi-Fi is priced at $329 in the U.S. and $459 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model, and Apple Pencil can be purchased separately for $99. Schools will be able to buy iPad for $299 and Apple Pencil for $89. The new iPad is available to order beginning today and will arrive in stores later this week in more than 25 countries, listed below:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UAE, the UK and the US. India, Russia, Thailand, and Turkey. More countries and regions will follow in April, with South Korea and others coming in May.

Apple need to stop pushing ipad to school. It's not good for kids where they still continue to develop motor skills. Apple should make cheaper macbooks for school. I don't want kids to type on the hard glass surface and later have problems. And if Apple still insists on pushing iPad, it should come with smart cover and keyboard.

I might be tempted to upgrade when they launch base model with 64 GB, until then I'll just rock my 32GB mini 2. I have no use for a pencil.

This sucks for owners like me who just bought an iPad this past Christmas.

This new one is more powerful, Pencil support and costs about the same.

Thanks Apple

That's what happens with technology. New products come out.
Yours still works though.

I'm definitely upgrading! :) I got the 2017 iPad last year, upgraded from the iPad Air 2, and was happy to go from 16GB to 32GB and also get the bump in performance. Didn't really care that the screen wasn't as premium, it still looks great to me!

I had so badly wanted Apple Pencil support last year, but was unwilling to pay the iPad Pro premium, so this new iPad is the perfect upgrade for me!

Are Apple selling the old 9.7 inch model from 2017 at an even lower price ?, or did it just disappear from their store ?.
