Honestly people.. what were you expecting? There is very little competition in this market, hence, the specs.

I believe there's actually a market for the iPod Classic if Apple started to appreciate music lovers again.
but then they can't sell you their subscription service

iPod is the perfect gateway Apple product for kids. From my observations as a parent, most parents won't give cell phones to their kids until 8th grade (about the time they start wandering further from the nest).

I’m a bit bummed they didn’t throw in an A12 for giggles, but the A10 is what I realistically expected. Based upon the iPhone 7 keynote, the A10 helped battery life considerably from the A8 iPhone 6 even with the 7 have a slightly smaller battery so I’m hoping for the same.

I’m buying this to pair with a FiiO Q5S DAC so I’m all over this and it’s 256GB.

Good-condition iPhone 7's can be found on Swappa for the same $199 price as this new Touch. Same CPU, more features, and it's an actual phone too.

Brand new iPod Touches can be had for the same $199 price. Same CPU, and it has an actual headphone jack too!! (There is no way I am getting my 7 year old a pair of AirPods, or a phone for that matter)

The iPad Nano... I'm actually considering getting this as the in-home jukebox, TV remote and for other home-related uses... essentially the home entertainment controller!

I'm surprised it's not the A11 as it's a gen old and would still be cheap but give that thing a lot of longevity. I guess longevity isn't the name of the game. Glad to see it still around though, although surprised TouchID didn't make the cut.

Ah Apple at its best.

Reusing an old design, so out of date it hurts, and pretending its new.
So new house is basically using the same design from centuries ago (walls, roof, foundation, windows, etc), sure there are a few design UPGRADES (like AC, solar, homekit :)) .. But i guess you are too busy trying to find ways to be clever to see the failure of your comment...

I think that's where the "innovation" they claim to still have comes into play.

Create a device starting with 64GB SSD storage -upgradable to 128 and 256GB.

  • Keep the headphone jack!
  • Add the latest bluetooth and WiFi for those that also want wireless options and Apple Music.
  • Bring back the clickwheel!
Make listening to music the focus of the device without distracting the user experience with apps.

Price the three models at: $399/$499/$599. Upgrade every other year.

Hell, they could even make them in the US!

And lose a billion dollars - but at least they'd sell one to you!

I was just thinking to myself "where's the market for this" until I saw your comment.

I honestly didn't realize the touch was still a thing until I saw this. But it makes sense. I see parents still buying them for their kids before the kids are ready for a phone of their own. And thus the headphone jack makes total sense, cuz any sensible parent wouldn't buy their kid airpods and expect them to not get lost.

But then again isn't this what old iPhone 5's are for?

Really thought they’d add Touch ID for Apple Pay, support for Apple Watch, and maybe waterproofing and a screen that takes up more of the device size.

For those asking who is the customer or why no redesign, probably don't realize Apple sells a large number of these devices in to the retail and customer service industry. Several companies make sleds that can act as bar code readers and/or POS credit card terminals. By not changing the form factor, companies don't have to wait for the sled manufacturers to update their product.

This right here. My local Walmart has started using what appears to be an iPod Touch in a housing with an LED barcode reader along with a credit card reader. Customer service reps will use them to either check you out when the lines are getting too long or they will use them for loss control as you leave by scanning your receipt and some of the more expensive items in your cart to ensure you paid for them.

I imagine they sell more to commercial customers than they do to individuals.

Please tell me how they would lose a "billion" dollars and only sell it to me?

Music listeners want a music listening experience just like readers want a reading experience vis-a-vis Amazon Kindles.

DJs want a formidable DAC to use with their other music equipment.

So would it be totally dumb to buy one of these for my soon-to-be 8yo grandson? He's been asking for one for a long time, but I've been waiting on an "upgrade."

He has an ipad, but just really wants an iPod and he DOES have a birthday coming up...

Sounds like the perfect gift. I am sure it will put a smile on your grandson’s face.
